According to the website Sportspower.com, Texas has the best high school football teams in the country. 8 of the top 15 are Texas schools. California and Florida tie for 2nd, with 2 a piece. The 8 schools?
1)Abilene
4) Euless Trinity
7)Highland Park
8)Odessa Permian
9) The Woodlands
10)North Shore
11) Lake Travis
15)Copperas Cove

There's a write-up on the website about how Texas high school football is unlike anything anywhere else in the country, as far as High school sports are concerned. What do ya'll think?

I think there are a few teams missing.
Judson, Plano, SLC

or if they are saying this year alone then Allen needs to be added

According to Rivals all those teams are ranked in the top 60 in the US not the top 15 and Trinity's #1

I love it when folks underestimate Cove. They're always so disappointed. Hey Permian fans... Remember the Alamo?

Remember when Cove won the 5A state championship? Me neither.

You beat Permian in 02 and 03 right....not exactly the best years for Mojo. They were barely .500 teams those years...not much to brag about.

Thank you, That was Scott Smiths team and MOJO was not even a shadow of its former self in those days.

That's nothing. Ask Abilene High and Midland Lee about how many consecutive years they beat us. Hell, even OHS knocked us off twice in a row at one point. I respect Cove a lot, but they definitely got their only shots in on us when our program was at its lowest point. You caught the last year of Coach Mills and the first year of Coach Smith.

I definitely like the fact that this poll indicates the truth that is Texas dominance in football. I feel like Trinity is a consensus number 1 at this point, but Abilene High deserves VERY high consideration.

I gotta say it's true....Cove has not won a 4A championship. But they were 4A for only 2 years and made 2 appearances in the state final. This is something that should be recognized as a high accomplishment. I will also say that both teams that beat Cove would have also been a team to reckon with even in 5A. The cream of the crop in 4A can compete well in 5A. Having said that, I will add that Cove would have to really have a super year to win a state championship in 5A. They make 5A each year by only a few students. This makes the talent pool a lot tougher to draw from then some of the 5A championship caliber teams. Cove is a small 5A school. Chances are that they will drop down to 4A for good after the next realignment. I say this because if the UIL required numbers increase as they do each year, Cove won't make 5A anymore. So does this mean many more championship appearances for the Dawgs? Probably a dinasty in 4A. Maybe to the extent that they will opt to go 5A. Truth is, they are a great program that makes football players and develops the talent they have. Very few "naturals" and a lot of training. Get'r done!

It's "Dynasty", not dinasty. Buy a dictionary, El Dawgo. Other than that, I completely agree with what you said. Also, Cove is 2-0 against Permian in recent years with more playoff wins. So, in recent years, who's the better team, Permian fans?

Define recent. Cove has been really good in recent years, but we've lost to the eventual state champions in the playoffs the past two years the same as yall. Like I said earlier, yall caught us at our very worst. Beat us in the playoffs with a coach that we don't fire that year or the year after and then gloat. I'd love a chance for Round 3.

I'm sure you would like round 3. So would the Dawgs. It would be a great victory. But, it looks like you will play D-1 with the big schools. Probably best, you would'nt want to take a chance on a little school that barely made 5A. But good luck to you. I'll be watching how ya do. Get'r done!

It doesn't matter. If a team's claim to fame is beating a Permian team at the low point of their history, you really haven't achieved much.

I agree...making it to the state final game in any classification is an accomplishment to be proud of. Cove has a good program....fields a solid team on a regular basis. But to put your program on the same plateau as Permian is a joke....sure you beat them a couple years when they were down and had weak teams. That's only a couple of wins. Permian is a perennial state power that has won many district championships and multiple state championships. They are back strong now. When and if Cove wins their first state championship then you can start to compare your program to Permian....until then all that talk is just that...talk!!!

I started this thread to point out the superiority of Texas high school football. A couple of ignoramuses from Permian and Katy wasted no time in trashing the poll because it had Cove ranked pretty high. Just goes to show where the true @$$es are in the state of Texas. Some people just can't admit when a program is doing good. BTW, the poll had Permian ranked higher than Cove.

I think the Permian fan was surprised to see the poll in that order and thought it was from last season. They said it didn't sink in when they saw Cove on there that it was this year. The Cove folks then started calling out Mojo like they're world-beaters. I don't think anyone here had a problem with them being ranked top ten. I think if you check and use your big-kid reading skills you will notice there are two Cove fans bringing up 02/03 before any Permian fan retaliates. Not only that, but the Permian fan early in the thread was only saying that there are several other teams that should have been listed. I am 99% certain that they meant in addition to the teams already in the rankings, not in their place.

Take it from a classy fan that saw their team beat Permian for like 8 or 9 straight seasons. ;)

mojoguy got it right, I in no way jumped on and or trashed anyone. I indeed thought it was last season until the SLC fan pointed out Cove and the Woodlands were on the list, I have no problem with Cove or its fans. Furthermore if you will do some reading it was a Cove fan that jumped and cried foul when it was nothing more than a innocent mistake on my part, I then proceeded in defending our team. If you think I am an a** then you need to take a long hard look at yourself there fella.
