I'm not sure if any of you have heard, but Barack Obama's grandmother is very ill.
He has taken time out of his campaign to go to Hawaii to spend time with her, as she raised him for several years, and she is the last "parent" he has left.
Apparently, he took his campaign plane along with him, and Republican strategist Brad Blakeman thinks that is a Very Bad Thing.

The attack was not over the fact that he went to see his grandma, it was why he had to take a 767 to go see her. There are like, what, less than 20 ppl going and you're wasting fuel on a 767?
I think there was nothing wrong about going to see her, but why take such a big plane?
jtk1519
10-25-2008, 03:28 PM
I think the attack was because he used a campaign plane. I don't think anybody would care if the Obamessiah chartered a private 767 to fly to Hawaii. It's the fact that he is using a plane that been paid for with campaign contributions and he will use campaign money to make a very expensive flight for something that has nothing to do with the campaign.
Is the attack in poor taste and probably counter-productive? Yes. But is the point being made a valid one? Yes.

So tell me how Obama using his campaign plane for a personal visit is any different than the attacks leveled against Palin for buying $150K in clothing or her charging her kids hotel bill?
Two way street here - if your side wants to level attacks against Palin, you have to expect Obama is going to get for using a 767 for a personal visit.

first off, I'm a little confused as to where you got the 300 million figure.
second, there is a difference between travel cost and buying clothes, especially when one is trying to pass oneself off as "average" or "sympathizing with "Joe the Plumber"".
I wonder how much Joe spends on clothes in one month?
pretty safe bet that it is less that $150000

If you read it again, I think you'll see it says $300K which means 300 thousand. That flight from Inndy to Hawaii and back is at least $300K.
Did you hear Palin's explanation or did you just dimiss it. Most of the cloths were returned. The campaign bought a bunch of cloths and she kept some outfits and the others were returned or given to charity.
Spin it all you want, but the fact remains Obama could have taken his security detail on a commercial flight for a hell of lot less money that a chartered 767.

I'll take not on that one.
So you would raise LESS hullabaloo for the campaign buying out a commercial jet so Obama can fly to Hawaii than for them using their own plane?
When and where did I say it would "raise less hullabaloo"? You asked if the SS would allow a candidate to fly commercial and I simply said that they will and they have.

i am in the wrong proffession....
Making fortune cookie doesn't offer quite the same perks, does it.
I don't think that political strategy is going to work for any candidate, ever.
which is my point. this dude can literally find a cure for cancer, give all his money to charity, and win 2 gold medals in the upcoming olympics, and there would still be people complaining about something.
it's funny and tragic....

As it is for any human being on the earth. There's always someone who doesn't like that person. Should that stop them from doing what is right?
By the way I'm not specifically pointing this towards Obama, just pointing out that what you said was ridiculous.

Yeah, where is that thing? Think about it - the way they categorized him was not correct for the 1960's. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but something doesn't jibe there.
I'm listening right now to his 2001 speech on Socialism...this man has just got a ton of Americans brainwashed right now. It's like my sister says - some people just need someone to follow. I just want a free country to live in...looks like that may soon be ending. Change - yeah, right.
