The pack made me proud of them once more. Hayes was a tough team but the pack can score running or passing. And what can be said of the defense coming up big well they had too. This defense has not give up many points after the half so far this year.If you key on the pass as Hayes did today Turner and Kibble will burn you, great game guys............. :D Don,t mess with Hewitt this kid knows how to play corner.

I would love to see Carroll's Wr's against your corners...maybe we'll get the chance! I think I'd pay to see that one....

It would be quite a challenge for our guys to keep up the pace they are on...but you always have the speed to make it tuff...congrats to you too...if we get by Abilene, maybe we can mix some purple & green and have a great round 3 of Carroll/Lufkin!

We not only have to get by AHS next week, but would have to play Plano or maybe SGP in round 4 before LV

You mean before Lufkin, not LV ;) right. Just for the record we have SG next week to focus on, and we got them in our own back yard. Their coach did not want to play in Tyler so they flipped for home -to- home....wow he lost and look where they have to play. His fans are most likely kicking his butt. :D

All I've been hearing all year is how amazing the Pack's defense is, but yall let Hayes score 30 points on you?! I know yall's defense is awesome, did Hayes just have a good offense?

Either the Panthers aren't as great as the posters on this board claims, or our Central Texas teams are a lot better than we're given credit for.

GOwl06,
Yes, the points are a concern, but 30 is the least Hays has scored on anyone this year. I can see why they came in averaging 46 a game; not great speed, but exceptional execution and deception. Lufkin had no clue how to stop them through the first three quarters. Don't understand why Waters didn't get the call on the 4th and 1, guess they thought LP would be keying on him. Hays fans should be very proud of their team.

Lufkin has a very good defense, and the last td was a giveme with one seconds left. But the schools up there seem to be a lot better than one seem to expect. Harker gave us a fit and Hayes is very good as well, but so far this little east texas team keeps putting up the points to win.We won,t back down to anyone, ask the SLC guys we play them to the wire, but they are just to good even for us.

Well put" LP FAN IN PLANO" it,s the bend but don,t break defense, but the D held Harker to two TD,s and a FG.Teams don,t seem to put up many points after the half on this Pack team.

I think the panthers defense is exceptional. However, I also believe we are in a weak district and it is easier to look good against our district. I don't know how many yards we gave up today, but (as has already been said) Hays has exceptional execution and good deception. They have several good athletes including the rb, qb, and wr. We won the game because we had two take-aways and we stopped them on a critical 4th down play in the second half. Up until then it was trading points.
We may not be stopping everyone the way we did in district, but the defense has stepped up when we had to so far in the playoffs.

Great game the score may have some people thinking the panthers ran away with this one. But like any good team you can not turn the ball over on a team like the panthers. They will score points and that what happen. Both team played a great game and good luck panthers in the next round. And as for us I think we are going back down to 4A If so It was fun in 5A..........

Its wasn't the D fault. It was that scrappy QB Hays had. I got fooled on a number of plays I thought the RB was down and I look up the QB is 5-8-10 yards down field.
And that TE they had I respect his hands. He almost beat the PACK D today, not #11 even though he's good too.
I have alot more respect for Central Texas teams now after being at that game today.

From the looks of things they are vulnerable to TE's going directly over the middle, along with going for the fake on the option. Othet than that they are as solid a D i've seen all year.

Yeah for some reason the pack has had tight ends open all the time. The coaches I know have school the defense on this but it always seem to catch us off guard. Hey I will settle for the pack holding a team to 30 points cause we are going to put up 31 or more :D

The defense is extremely talented as we all know( possibly 8 div1a recruits counting juniors) but they are very undisciplined at times and the last 2 teams have picked up on it. They use trick plays mis directions etc etc Hays has a great offense and they would confuse any defense. They will go from the straight wishbone, to the veer, to a pro set, to the I, to the shotgun spread from one play to the next!! Outlaw said he cannot believe they are able to learn all of those set's??? It is amazing!! Either way Lufkin's defense is going to have to step it up or they will get smoked by SLC if they make it far. I am a realist. But remember this, Hays scored with 2 seconds left in the game when Lufkin was in prevent or Hays would have had 24 points. They average 46!! Lufkin still held them 16 points under their average but they are not playing well right now by their standards do not let any pack fan tell you different. I do not even recognize them at times in the last 2 games??

We haven't seen speed like they have ever," Hays Coach Bob Shelton said. "It's hard to get used to speed like that when you've never seen it before."
that is what the Hays coach said about Lufkin go to the Statesmen.com and you can read the article.
Lufkin team speed is one of the fastest in any team in the state of texas that is for sure the harker coach said it the hays coach says it the kids in Lufkin can run and run as a team most people have a few people but not Lufkin the whole team can run and are great players. The D has not played it's best game of the year and we still have won games if we can just come out there and play a perfect 4 quarters then this panther team is going to be hard to beat.

I am like Pack08, our D needs to focus more at times. As young as this team is they get out of place at times. But being a realist also, it is going to hard for anyone to derail that green machine. They have a better defense this year to go along with the offense, THEY WILL BE HARD TO BEAT.

Everyone is talking about the Lufkin D, well no one has stated that Lufkin was ahead 45-24 and Hayes scored with 0:02 time left on the clock at the end to make the score closer.
I give Hays some credit, they are decent team, their offense is really their defense, they don't have much speed but their O was a diverse and confident bunch and they liked to control the clock. The Hays defense was not the best we have seen this year. Hays was a great challenge and they were everything we thought a 10-1 team would be, tough.
Lufkin won this game in the fourth quarter. Next week South Garland.

Almost everybody knows that Lufkin has one of the fastest defense's (if not the fastest) but playing great defense is more then just having great speed. This defense is capable of playing much better then they have lately and they will have to step it up if they want to accomplish their ultimate goal. That is just the truth.

Pack08, I think the Pack defense has done pretty good the past two weeks, because we have played teams that have given us alot of different offensive looks, especially Hays. We have had to change several things we normally do defensively to match up, it hasn't been easy or pretty at times, but it has worked and that shows the versatility of our defensive players. The defense will be fine.

No doubt. I'm not sure I like having the LBs sit back and read scheme. They seem to bite on the fakes in those situations. The D this year seems to be at its best when they are stunting. The few times they ran stunts today they got in the backfield and busted plays before they developed.
However, the D stepped up when it had to today and SG is next.
BTW...Wide, LPFan nice to put a face to a name.

Scooter - we missed you today man! LPFan, Wide, Pack0808 and me were looking for you.
You are correct - the Hays coaches found a weak spot and really exposed our coverage breakdowns. We either fix that or go home soon. HHeights did the same thing - TE drags down the middle or on the corner - WIDE OPEN - even Wide himself could have scored on one of those.
Thankfully SLC doesn't have a tight end Drgnbkr! ;) Just kidding there - long way to go before that possible match-up. SGarland will be plenty tough - and looks like CCove is for real this year gang.

Yes they are so much better being aggressive stunting and blitzing. Quick tends to be the conservative type and he cannot help it. He told us in the off season all of that was going to change and it did up until The Woodlands game!! They went back to their old conservative scheme for the most part. They will be aggressive at times but nothing like they were doing. Let this d be aggressive quick and quit letting them try to think so much. This great defense is so much better when they just let them go at teams instead of letting the lb's sit back each snap trying to read scheme like Stang said.
This Hayes team is a good football team. I hate to see them go to 4A next year. Their a legit contender for sure. They gave the Lufkin D fits with all the sets and that TE. I didn't get it when the TD would come onto the field for the next play and he would still be open most of the time. It's almost like saying here I come see if you can stop me. Waters is a good back but not that good. The QB I felt had more talent. I see why 11 has to have a website. He is though better than average but not a lot of around the corner speed.
Lufkin won a hard fought battle today. Every game at this level is going ot be hard fought. At this stage if you don't take a team serious then you may be looking in from the outside the next week.
I'm not even going to mention all the picky calls the refs made today.
And I have great news. The band didn't do the "Who's your daddy" chant. ;)
I know many on here will be glad to hear that!
Next week is S. Garland. The team that caught Longview napping. Maybe we can get some revenge on them for our East Texas Lobo fans that are now in the LP camp.

You better believe it baby...I have crazy breakaway speed...they used to call me the "white" Carl Lewis in my younger days...I could have played in the NFL...but my baby mama didn't want me to...
Good to meet you too Stang...that was pretty cool...I sit down and LPFan plops down next to me...and Stang leans forward and sticks out his hand and says "What's up Wide..." ahahahaha

Ok, my thoughts from the game:
Thanks to everyone who has complimented our team, I think we are on the verdge of being that next upper level team, but we're just not there yet.
Wow, y'all really bring a BIG crowd, y'alls whole side was almost completely full. Although that many fans didn't produce that much sound. Do students sit together at games? It seemed spread out to me because we have a definate student section.
The game:
Our defense really stepped up today, I'm really proud of them, we kept your recievers in check and that's when we got burned by your HB. I can't tell you how many times we held to 3& 5 and it turned into a 30+ yard gain for Lufkin. Nash played a real tough game despite missing Tuesday and Wednesday due to an illness, he threw the ball incredibly well and excuted the offense as best as anyone could've asked him to do. Amadeus didn't really get to show off and shine like I really wanted him to, plus he had his first fumble of the game which was a huge momentum swinger. Your D kept him in check the whole game and that's when Nash began to throw and run.
Playcalling for us was a problem however and I think was a huuuuggeee factor. I don't understand why we go for it on 4th and 2 on the 50 with the Lufkin offense able to score quickly with 1 minute left in the half. But what was even worse than the decision was the actual play call. HB pass, come on, seriously not on 4th down. Yeah it worked on the first play of the game with our back up QB/ WR Brooks Pinkcard (that shows our team speed right there, our WR had no one within 20 yards of him after the catch got run down at the 20). Another critical playcall, 4th and 2 again in the 4th qtr. I beleive and we keep it away from the best 2 players on our offense, just baffling to me.
The back you have is scrappy and quick, I did'nt expect to much out of him because of his season stats. Y'all play a really nice balance of pass and run, and we got beat on the run which is ironic because I was scared of the pass all week.
Good luck to the Pack the rest of the way, y'all have the team speed to go all the way and incredible athletes as well. It was a fun game however I wish the score would've been the other way around. Sucks that we'll probably be moving down to 4A next season, I was looking forward to a possible re-match next season, but maybe we can dominate in 4A next year.
Way to go Rebs, 5-5 my freshman year to 10-2 my senior year, great turnaround.
