If Lufkin wants to win it shouldnt be hard but they must..
not make stupid mistakes or turnovers because SG will take advantage of it
not let SG get a lead or gain confidence because they can play good when they get confident
if you do get penalties on you that you may not agree with, just go to the next play and forget it
The last one is what Longview really failed to do against SG. They had the game in the bag, all they had to do was keep a lead in the second half, but they let questionable calls and not gettin TD's in the red zone get to them.
p.s. someone from lufkin please beat the crap outta those flag carrier guys from SG :D

They couldn't have picked a worse place to play in my opinion. Be sure and have someone guard your car during the game. The town has been completely overrun with people from New Orleans, most of which are homeless and living on the streets. I have a friend whos daughter dropped out at SFA mid-semester because the town just hasn't been the same because of the people from New Orleans. It should a good game. I'll be pulling for South but I give the edge to Lufkin.

SG has a very good defense and an explosive offense. They won't lay down, thats for sure.
They don't bring a lot of fans - I'd be surprised if more than 1000 make the trip. But, they are a good team and are not to be taken lightly.

I live in Wylie and keep up with South Garland alot. South Garland has a very good defense, but only when it comes to shutting down running teams, they are very easy to pass against, so this will be big trouble for their D. As far as their offense, not much really, I think 90% of the teams they have played have had more yardage and first downs then South, but have had turnovers kill them. So as long as Lufkin plays like they can, I pick a blow-out
Lufkin- 45

I have been openly critical of the South Garland fan for years and years, no offense to good fans like Travisk44. I had 2 kids go to South and I went to as many games as possible per season from 1997-2001. It's a "wannabe" group at best.
I'll give you an example. Last night at the Garland/Carter - South/Lake Highlands double header at Texas Stadium, Garland fans filled up their side to the goal lines. They cheered on the defense, they cheered on the offense, they cheered on the special teams, they knew when to cheer, when to yell, and what to yell. Carter never took an even moderately important snap without great noise from the Garland side. OK, game over, South/LH starts. For the most part it was night and day. The South fans were all talking about family and socialising, just like normal. Absolutely minimal noise. Finally, some Garland fans with propane cans full of ball bearings painted Black and Gold, got down in the middle of the South fans and started shaking the cans and finally got a bit of a rise out of maybe 100 of the South "faithful". At the half, most of the remaining Garland fans left and the sight of about 2000 South fans at one of the few 2nd round games in the schools history was almost too much to bear. I felt so sorry for the kids on the field. They knew what a ruckus the Garland fans raised for the Owls and to see the total indifference of most South fans had to be deflating, even though they won.
I've sat amongst them many times. Very little football is talked. The women gaggle and talk hair and nails and whatever and the men just sit. Garland Owls women fans will talk your ear off on football, much less the men.
What owlfan1 said is true. A Saturday game probably won't fit into the social schedule of the average South fan and they will be lucky to travel 1000 fans. But it won't matter, because they will just sit with their hands in their laps all game anyway. It's a shame since this is their first 3rd round game ever in their 42 year history. Don't be surprised if there are more fans from the other Garland schools out supporting the "city school" than from South itself.
The average South fan doesn't deserve this team, and the South team sure doesn't deserve to have these "wannabes" for fans.
Lufkin has a sizeable advantage in the support area and should win the game. I fear that the South kids will feel very alone out on that field next Saturday.

It saddens me to see the lack of support South Garland allegedly has according to this website, and many of the other city schools have based on my own experience. We all spend lots of time and money trying to keep our children in school and drug -free. Why do some of these suburb school parents not see where they are losing the battle? The key to producing productive members of society is making children realize they are valued; not just by their family, but by their community. Gosh, we Lufkinites may be arrogant at times, but we support our kids- football, band, soccer, etc...and I guarantee every child in purple next Saturday will know they have the support of this town. Isn't that what it is all about? Go pack!

Yep. I was at that game, and it was sad. Many Garland fans are generic, and can support the team they think is best at the time. I recall the thinking that year as being that Garland had less of a chance to win than South or Naaman Forest. All three games were played at the same time. The next week Garland had a big crowd when we played Allen in Plano. It will be interesting to see what happens in Waco.

Lufkin should win easy enough. SG got Lview but I am trusting in our ET brethren to show all the big city boys how to play ball. I am just sitting back and waiting for SLC/LP. I will be at that one.
Let's go LP, keep the title in EAST TEXAS.

I appreciate everyone's show of support, but I really wish you would quit making it look like Lufkin has a cakewalk until we step on the field with SLC. The game today was anything but a cakewalk.
To the Panther faithful: Don't listen to anything that says next week's game is going to be a blowout. We don't want a repeat of the game against Harker Heights. I didn't even go to that game because I thought it was going to be a blowout.

want some info on SG, let me tell you what I saw...........
offensively, they have a decent QB who can zip it to his recievers...he is not very fast but effectively can get it to his guys....i was not impressed with their running game b/c it is based on their passing (as it seemed to me)...they don't make a lot of mistakes and take advantage of what is given to them...one thing that they do effectively (and it drove me crazy although it is legal) is the o line never sets and will look to the side line as they adjust to how the d lines up. they will do it all day long...as far as being explosive, Lufkin's D will take care of that...
defensively, this is where the team strength is...their LBs are the heart of the defense, big, fast and great open field tacklers...it will be really hard to run up the middle all day...the secondary is suspect, LV had WRs open all day but couldnt get the ball to them, good dline...
SG is a good team and their record is confusing....i think they will hang with lufkin for a while but they will get overwhelmed.......

I'm with you on your assessment, to a point. I couldn't go because I had to work, so I watched the replay of the game on local cable access. You have to realize that Garland has 7 schools and the loyalties can be somewhat divided. Lufkin is a one-school-town and your support is unified. Also, there is a whole lot less to do in Lufkin, other than football, than in the Metroplex. My ex-in-laws live there and I've been frequenting the area since 1979. There is nothing to do, period. Also, you guys were #1, and to that point, the Owls had been somewhat less than impressive, certainly not the level to beat you guys. The weather and the circumstances above played a role in our turnout, but I guarantee that few "city" schools would have turned out as many as we did. Since the 1999 season and the 2003 Lufkin game, I think our fans have learned their lessons. I hear so many folks wishing they had decided to go to the game rather than do something else in the comfort of central heat.

South lost to Plano West by three in OT, to South Gp by fourteen, to Rowlett by
four, and to Garland by seven. The loses were in the early season except Garland. The young soph, QB seems to be getting better week to week. They have players, but have never seen the kind of things Lufkin will bring. If they can stay close until late and get some breaks it could be a game.

I've heard that said by some people. I spent my first twenty years in Lufkin, and have lived in the Metroplex longer than that. I had plenty to do in Lufkin. My dad was a fishing guide on Sam Rayburn, so I was usually fishing, hunting, or playing whatever sport was in season. I guess I've got enough to do here in the Metroplex........sit in traffic, watching all the "Dragon Wagons" go by, check out all the "high pollutin" people at Nordstrom's, or watch the news for the latest ozone level alert.

Phillip Payne vs L. Hewitt wow what a matchup that is going to be all state vs all state.
The Lufkin D is due to a big game but they have played well they have bend but not broke they made a big stop today on a 4-1 hudge play. they will be ready and playing at SFA i dont think the SG coach is kicking and screaming about comign to east Texas that is not were i would want to come and play this game.

SG- 17 or 21 to much for this team to take playing on such a big stage and at lufkins home so to say.

yea, that's what we thought too, richpack........go into the game thinking that, and your team will be sitting at the house with me....SG isn't flashy by any means...they are not really "strong" in any area, but they play as a team...they do just enough to get it done, stay close, and try and steal the game away before you know it....of course, i've got Lufkin picked to win, but not by a complete blowout--they won't lay down for you...if i'm wrong, then i will admit it at a later time................

Great post Bleed. People looking for blowouts in the 3rd week of the playoffs will be sorely disappointed. The Lufkin defense has not shown anything in the last three weeks to indicate a blowout. Lufkin may win, but it will be no blowout. Unless, the defense gets their groove back.

I think one of two things will happen Saturday (hows THIS for hedging my bet?). Either this will get ugly early and turn into a blowout because Lp simply has the better team and players, or this will be a close game that will be decided in the 4th quarter.
Now, before everyone rips the possibility of this being a close game, remember this: South Garland has as good a coaching staff as there is in the state. Seriously. Coach Outlaw and his staff are greatness, too, no doubt, but this SG coaching staff is very good, and they will have this team ready to play. If Lufkin has any weakness that can be exploited (which I doubt), Moss and Co. will find it.
Lufkin may well, and probably should, blow the doors off of SG. But, if SG can figure out a way to stay in the game, gain a little confidence, and realize they can play with the Pack, all bets are off.
As for fan support: The Colonels don't even get any of that at their home games. About the only game they will fill up each year is the Garland game (South and Garland are huge, bitter rivals), and a quarter of the fans on the SG side for that game are Garland haters from other schools who hope to see the Owls go down (See Roughrider). The lack of support probably won't effect the Colonels that much because they never get any to begin with. Sad but true.

I would not be surprised at all if this game was close. Even with the ridiculous talent Lufkin has there is still weakness in certain areas. If they have great coaches then i will start getting concerned because they will find out what they are. I like Lufkin 31-13 but this game could be very close!!

Alot of the kids of the "city schools" are from broken homes with one parent and lack of income. This in it's self leads to lack of parental support in extracurricular activities. It is sad but does not hender these athletes. They still show up, many walking to school or practice because they don't have the money to catch a bus, to dedicate themselves to the hardships of being a student/athlete. You should not moan and whine about the lack of support but show up and support them. These kids don't play for what is in the stands but for what is on the field and sidelines with them, the TEAM!!

What a tool! Someone from the Metroplex complaining about crime and homeless people in a small East Texas city. There are no roving gangs of homeless criminals in Nacogdoches. I think your friend's daughter may have had other reasons for dropping out of college.

I'll tell you what i think as a past student, if the game were closer, you would have tons of GHS students there, even if we are "bitter rivals" and i'll tell you why.
a)as GoOwls4X56636499 already mentioned, Garland Owls are intense football fans(within the district, we're pretty much the only consistant football program). how many other students do you see wearing capes and shaking propane tanks. saturday at 2 would be the perfect time to go see a playoff game for us. too bad it's so far away.
b)we want to see our district go further and have a good showing(we're all pretty good friends except for that tense, hateful week leading up to our game :p ).
c)we're all secretly hoping that we both miraculously get through 2 more rounds and take our "huge, bitter" rivalry to the playoff level. i can't even imagine how hardcore that game would be.

OWLFAN1 is a fricken idiot
The Colonels have as big of a following in football as anyone in the district. We fill up our side for the Garland game, Lakeview game and Rowlett game as well. Obviously a hater (as we have beaten the Owls two out of three years for both district title and game bragging rights)
The only reason a lot of local Garland white trash like the Owls and come to their games with no connections whatsoever is that the Owls were a bad *** team (State champs in 99, Regional Semis in 97(?)). they like to follow a winning team. Replace GHS with Lakeview or Naaman and the same dorks and white trash will show up to their games.

OK first of all, Owlfan is not an idiot by ANY means. Secondly, Garland has beat South Garlandd 11 out of 13 years. And we have 2 district championships in the last three years as well. (This year in district we were 6-0) And I was at the South game at Texas Stadium and their fans barely even stood up for the National Anthem much less when their team did something good. I was verrrry unimpressed with the South fans. What'd yall have at the Longview game, not even 2,000!? That's pathetic. The Garland fans bring it all the time anywhere, no matter what, win or lose. And just for kicks, how many state championships has South won in the school history...?

They weren't questionable calls, they were terrible on the payroll calls. The fact of the matter is the Refs did what they set out to do and that was keep the game close and give SG a shot at winning. The miltary adage is you can only regain ground so many times until you become demoralized...Lufkin will win this game and I can't stand Lufkin, but they will win this game because of it's location, you put this game in Dallas and Lufkin will struggle as well, and might even lose. However, I think the UIL has been alerted and they might have seen the tape of the Longview game with SG. Those refs should have been relieved for the way they officiated that game...I predict a blowout, Lufkin will bring a gun to a fist fight and blast SG...

Bad for you because the Homecooking is over...you will see just how good your team is when they don't have the officials in their pocket...Blowout, Lufkin, over early,
Lufkin 42 at the half and remove starters
SG 21 and they score the last two in the fourth quarter against Lufkins second team

They don't bring a lot of fans - I'd be surprised if more than 1000 make the trip. But, they are a good team and are not to be taken lightly.
you have to be kidding on both points, very weak offense and a below average defense who employs the refs to keep teams out of the endzone...homecooking is over

Insult if you wish - SG has never had the following that Garland does. I wish they did, because the kids deserve it (they play hard). You don't know me, and thats okay, but if you were a regular on this board, you'd know that I have nothing but respect for SGHS and their program (read my post earlier in this thread to find out what I think about your coaching staff). I was a the SG game, and I was standing and cheering for the Colonels like they are my own team - unfortunately, only a couple hundred SG fans and some leftover Owl fans were standing with me.
Take this as personal challenge, tell all your Colonel supporter friends about how we moronic, white trash Owl folks are "hating and degrading" your program, and show us up. Get your fans to SFA and support your Colonels. If there are less than 4000 people there, it will be a shame...

You obviously don't know High School Football and how the playoffs work. You really do not have a clue. Every game we play in the playoffs the announcers tell us what chapter the Refs are out of. And both times they have not been from the Waco area. The first week it was from the Houston area and the second week it was from the Dallas area. Give it up in here because it is a lost cause for you to keep CRYING in here. If you really give a damn then go set up camp at the UIL office and do something about it. I mean if you believe so strongly that it was a conspiracy then be like that Shehan lady that camped out at the Presidents ranch in Crawford. I am sure you will feel much better about this whole thing if you get to speak your mind to the UIL. In here you are just making yourself look very desperate. You know we could lose too against this SG team. I know anything is possible. The sad thing is your team did not do it's part to meet us in the third round but ours did. After all the smack that was coming out of a FEW Lobo fans it is kind of fitting. I mean Lufkin didn't have Lane anymore so we were just going to be an "average at best" team this year. Well I like my 12-0 average at best team and I get to watch them play at least one more game.

Anyone that is not a fairweather fan will know how the officials from the playoffs are determined. And like you said it has been like this for several years. He even tried to tell me the officials for Lufkin's first round game were locals. That is sad that he is trying to convince me that they were when I know that they were from the Houston chapter. He just does not know his football. All he knows is that if Longview played a tough game it was because of the officials when they lost it was because of the officials. SAD! VERY SAD!

Longview's offense nearly matched its season average (399.9) with 386 yards — 214 on the ground and 173 passing. However, 56 of that rushing yardage came on a fake punt as Jarvis Pippins took the direct snap and reached the South Garland 5-yard line before being hauled down from behind. The play, which came late in the opening quarter, resulted in Decker's 22-yard field goal.
McGee rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown on 18 attempts. Ivory finished with 57 yards on 12 carries. Freeman matched his season-high with 173 yards passing (12 of 20). Reese was the leading receiver with three catches for 105 yards, followed by McGee (3-30), Ivory (4-25) and David Robinson (2-13).
Florence was 13 of 24 for 244 yards and one touchdown for South Garland, and he also ran for a 1-yard score. He was picked up twice by the Lobos. Payne was the leading receiver for the Colonels with six receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.
South Garland rushed for only 50 yards on 15 attempts.
Tony Johnson, who was making his first start at linebacker since breaking his arm against West Monroe on Sept. 3, intercepted the ball at his own 30 after it bounced off the helmet of the intended receiver on South Garland's initial possession of the game. Laderrick Satterwhite recorded his fifth interception of the season, picking off Florence in the end zone as the Colonels had a second-and-goal from the Lobo 7 with 2:39 left in the first quarter.
Cartez Beall also denied the Colonels a scoring opportunity on their first possession of the second half as he stripped the ball from Tyler , who had gotten behind the Lobo secondary for a 42-yard gain to the Longview 29.
As for the penalties, Longview was flagged 12 times for 116 yards — 101 in the just the first half. South Garland had five penalties for 45 yards.

O keep scoring and scoring and rushing the rushing game has been great over the last 2 weeks keep it up once they come in the box then we got 4 good wr that will make them pay for it.4.make sure you get a goodnights sleep even thou the game is just 10 min away go to bed and get some rest and dream about making that TD and that tackle dream about it and on Saturday make it come true,
GO PANTHERS

South Garland had five penalties for 45 yards.
this is what i was looking for...Ignore the facts if you like
That tells me you had the WHOLE second half to win the game without the supposed "Phantom Penalties." If I am not mistaken the score was close in the first half. Weren't you all leading 10-7 going into the half? So it looks like to me that your argument is useless because if you had the lead going into the half and only had 15 yards of penalties in the second half then your team should have just finished the job and put more points up on the board in the second half. Remember the penalties did not hurt you in the second half. You are going to have to come up with something better then that now that you told me most of the penalties were in the first half. And even though your team was penalized so much in the first half they still managed to keep the lead. The FACT is your team had a better chance in the second half since they were only penalized for 15yds and didn't have the supposed "Home Cooking" to slow you down in the second half. You just messed up your own conspiracy theory man.

Hey Lufkin fan,
Be careful, the last time I was at S.F.A. was back in 1998 when the little
old CATS from LAKE HIGHLANDS came into "your house" and beat ya'll
on a last minute 3 pointer. Lots of your fans had to sit on our side due
to the overflow of your supporters. They were not very nice. That was still
the most fun I ever had at a game. We were 5-5 in the regular season and
won 4 out of 5 playoff games. Every team we beat in the playoffs were
better than us. We just had more heart and LUCK. The point is I was at
the L.H. / SG game Friday night. They have a very BIG and good D. The
soph q.b. plays like a senior. Don't let their 8-4 record over-look them. They
are very good. Good luck.

well i was on the field for that game in 98 we let one slip away that evening at SFA. that hurts today still but we got over it and moved on now we got 4 players from that team in the NFL and from that point forward if you look at Lufkin's record and success it all started because of that 98 team that went 4 deep that year.
lufkin will be ready and trust me no one is overlooking SG they beat Longview that says enough right there that they can play and will come to play some Football

11 out of the last 13, but only one out of the last 3. Take a look at the SG-GHS head to head from the late 80s-early 90s, SG dominated.
The South fans showed up for the GHS game and cheered for you guys, not EVERYONE on the GHS side were Garland fans.
Garland has a bunch of t-shirt fans (fans that have no connection to GHS whatsoever) that start following the team when they make the playoffs and at the NG and SG games. I know at least 10 from my workplace...only 2 have kids that go there. Face it, a lot of the GHS fans are bandwagoners.
BTW, South easily had 4-5000 at Mesquite Memorial.
hate all you want, it doesn't change the fact that since Moss was hired, South has caught up to Garland in football, and have long since left you in the dust in basketball.

South was whistled for 12 penalties against LH's 8 on Friday night. We still won. Guess what? Good teams can overcome penalties and win games. You guys overlooked us and DIDN'T GET FLAGGED AS MUCH AS WE DID and still lost. In fact, we got a TD called back...did you? NO.

Were you around in the early 90s? Garland was the worst team in the district, other than possibly Duncanville. South, North, North Mesquite and Lakeview had HUGE followings. The SG-NG game in 1991 held the record for biggest crowd at Williams (overflow onto the track) until an NG-GHS game in like 1999. Once again, Garland has a huge following because they have been good so long. If South had won a state championship in 1999, I guarantee we would have the same no-connection following as you guys do.

Hey, SG Bozo...
Yes, I was around in the late 80's and early 90's. Yes, I sat through thumping after thumping at the hands of SG, NG and LC during those years. Yes, I remember the NG-SG game at Williams in '91 - I also remember scores of SG fans vacating after Jason Parker's NG team scored late in the 4th quarter, only to turn around and rush back in after SG scored again cut their lead to less than a TD. I remember the deriding "South went down!" cheers from the packed NG side after the game. I was there. I was also at the game at HBJ the year before when Bobby Whitt caught a pass in the corner of the endzone with time running out to beat SG. I was at the Cotton Bowl to watch the Colonels defense suffocate JT, 7-0. I was at Texas Stadium to watch Carter build a huge lead, then see SG valiantly come back, only to fall short late. I was at Pennington Field to watch Longview absolutely destroy the Colonels in '91, too. I was at the Cotton Bowl in '87 to see Roosevelt beat GHS 6-0. Were you?
I was also at the game this past Friday, cheering loudly for SG. I have nothing but respect for your program.
Garland has been the team I follow and support for close to 25 years, but I am also a fan of GISD football and, yes, I have been around. I suffered through the years of 2-8, 3-7 misery. I watched this team get steadily better, and I have been here for the good times. And, I was at all but one of the games in '01, when we were 3-7 - but still managed to beat SG.
Does GHS have bandwagoners. DUH! Of course they do. Winning teams get bandwagon fans. However, SG only wishes that it had the history, tradition and support that GHS gets.
Prove me wrong. Fill up the visitor side at Bryce stadium. Show me and the rest of us T-shirt wearing yokels how a team should be supported. I dare ya...

The district title in '03 was shared three ways -Naaman, SG and Garland all finished 5-2 in district play.
Look, I have nothing but respect for SGHS program. However, GHS has more support and a better fan base. That is a fact. I wish all the fans who come to the SG-GHS game were also there for their playoff games, but they aren't.
Sorry I called you a bozo - you got my blood boiling. Peace...

When does South Garland play? Friday or Saturday?
If it is Saturday, I think that both schools should come together again, and cheer for each others team at the games. I was really happy to see that Garland and South Garland fans were cheering for each others teams. I was cheering for South, and I heard that there were a few groups of south fans cheering for us.

Owlfan--wasn't it Milton Mallard (north) who caught the TD pass over Denard Walker (current NFLer) with time running out in 90 against SG? Also, in 91, The game was tied with about 3 minutes left, North drove basically the length of the field and kicked a 43 yarder with :01 remaining.
I only started HS in 1990, but followed SG since I was about 6 (mostly basketball). Garland has a great fan base, but most of the fans that don't have any connection would be huge Sachse Mustang fans if they had a 10 year record of making the playoffs. That's all I am trying to say. I get tired of condescending comments from GHS fans and students...South has following from parents and alumni, thats it...but it doesn't mean that our fanbase sucks, it just means that the random local dude who lives off of 5th street near Daughtery Elementary would rather go and see the team that has a tradition and hop on the bandwagon, than support a team that may or may not make the playoffs because Coach Thompson had let the game pass him by. We have Moss now, and should be equal to the Owls from now on.
PS--In 03, SG beat both Naaman and GHS (lost to Mesquite and LC)

It was Mallard, not Whitt. The stadium was packed. In the '91 game, NG took a lead with less than 3 minutes to go and a lot of fans started to bail. Then SG scored (maybe on the runback). If you say they won on an FG, I'll beleive you. I've seen a lot of football between then and now.
The average football fan with no connections will attend GHS games - you are right. But that does not mean that they are not passionate about them or aren't good fans. I did not go to GHS and have no connections with the school, but (not to blow my own horn), it might be hard to find too many people WITH connections who are bigger fans than I am.
Anyway, I hope the Colonels shock the world again this week. I will probably be there...
BTW - in our district, if two or three teams finish with the same district record, they are considered co-champs regardless of head-to-head. Head to head comes in to determine playoff seedings. But, yes, we know that SG beat us that year.

Owl dork: That was the first time South had ever made the playoffs, at least since I have been a fan
Me: What year did you graduate?
Him: I didn't. I went to Royce City in the 80s
Me: well, we've been to the playoffs in 90, 91, 96, 97, 03, 04, and 05
Him: Well, you guys had never beaten the Owls until last year
Me: You are clueless dude we beat you guys every year I was in school, plus 03 and 04.
Him: You have no idea what you are talking about. I hope the Colonels lose every game. I'm just here to see you get smashed.

VERY POOR COMPARISON AND A FOOLISH ONE AT THAT!!!! You are pathetic to compare a **** to a football game and you need some serious help. You won the first half WITH the penalties and if your team was as great as you made them out to be they would have won in the second half with only 15yds of penalties and would have sealed the deal to win the game. That is why they play FOUR quarters of football. Your team should have played better in the second half and scored when they were in position to. Sorry we could not have met up for the third round because that would have been one of the most exciting atmospheres to be in. But that is what happens to smack talkers who dog other programs instead of being humble. I find it odd that you try to tell the rest of the state to be humble since you were not humble until your team lost. I have been humble about my team since before the season started and will remain that way win or lose. If we lose I know I will not start with the EXCUSES. Excuses don't win games. One thing I learned in the military is this, The maximum effective range of an excuse is ZERO!!!!! By the way if the score COULD have easily been 24 to 7 in the first half without the penalties then why was it not easy to put up 24 points in the second half with only 15 yds of penalties? Your argument is very weak and like I said that is why they play FOUR quarters of football. Who used the word conspiracy (not conspiricy) (?) . . . just because Garland had no, zero, nada penalties against JT - never mind that this is just not ever done, not even at the professional level . . . no, I never used the word; obviously, all of this was just a coincidence. And what's asinine and objectionable can usually be determined by what point of view (or position) you had when the crime was actually committed; in other words, who was the perpetrator as compared to whom was being perpetrated (?). . . Generally speaking, most rapist do not feel that their crime was as terrible as the one that was raped [would have you to believe]. And clearly, if you believe that my analogy was intended as "literally" like a sexual ****, then just maybe you're the one that needs help - - - its just an analogy man (what do you think, they actually got their football pants pulled down and ..... come on). By the way **** also means forcing another to submit, abusive and improper treatment, violation, to plunder and pillage; and finally, to commit the crime of **** on!!! Using the aforementioned definition, WE GOT RAPED!!! Now, if you still find it (my analogy) to be asinine and objectionable (and maybe contemptible), as a line by a great actor, from a great movie once verbalized, "frankly (owlfan 1), I don't give a damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"   Good luck LP mand CC . . . .

Bring it on!!! Man, can't you tell by now that I get off to this stuff!!!! I could care less about the praise of others, my mother always taught me to speak my mind and not to sugar coat it for anyone. We all have opinions just like we all have aszhoolezzes. You can call me many things but a kiss aszz is not one of them. My analogy was [so clearly] elucidating that the first half onslaught had an impact (psychological) on LV for the rest of the game (the damage had been done) and not just the first half. . . Next, come on - don't be shy, believe me I can take it!!! ;)

A thousand pardons. I certianly did not realize that Longview players had such delicate sensibilities. Of course you are right. They were so terribly traumatized by the evil and mean old officials that they could not possibly be expected to win a game in which they held the lead at halftime and were sparsely penalized in the 2nd half. It all makes sense now. Thanks so much for clearing that up.
How's basketball season going?
I'll bet Longview is glad to have you on their side.
Oh and by the way, if legitimate excuses did not exist, think about it, there would be no need for the word. . . to believe otherwise, is just plain irrational!!!! . . . . . SG's defence will have to win it for em'. I think the offense got in a groove Friday night vs. LH but in the 4th quarter the defence just broke down. The defence played well in the 1st half but just died in the 2nd half the 4th quarter in particular. I think South can win but the slightest break down will be the end of their season.

I call a 15 yard personal foul penalty for the hijacking of this thread. This thing is 7 pages long now and I don't know where to begin. Whatever happen in the SG-Longview game is long over, whether it was bad officiating, poor play, turnovers or whatever, we are here now in week 3 of the playoffs with Lufkin and South Garland facing off. There is nothing anyone can do about the past. Hey, I do appreciate the Longivew and Garland area people giving us some low down on the South Garland team. Personally, I think this game will be as tough as the first two for Lufkin and the reasons are obvious.
Lufkin playing in their own backyard at SFA and with about 10,000 fans in Purple will be the deciding difference. I believe this could be a breakout game for our junior dominated offense and our defense will get back to thier usual attack mode. This game may start our close, but Lufkin will win the second half and will win this game 31-14.
Go Pack!!!!

I agree, I should have been a bit more subtle; for that reason, if I insulted anyone that has had a family member to be subjected to this terrible reality, I am truly sorry. The only reason I chose this analogy was because it seems that this was the only way to get seemingly none-sensible people to understand that these kind of things do happen and with more regularity that we might want to believe. Who knows, it may very well happen to your team; and if so, maybe then, just maybe you'll understand my frustration. Sometimes excuses are justified; and contrary to what you might believe, this was one of those times.

SHould be a great game. Obviously the Colonels are playing better than their record indicates - reflecting a strong year for Garland in general. I think this is the first ever meeting of these two schools?
Hold up, let's be fair, wait a minute . . . are we saying that others have never hijacked LV posts/threads? Please wait the whole minute before answering - 0 . . . . . . . . . . . . 60 seconds, OK, time in. Go back and look, I don't believe I've said a bad thing about LP on this thread . . . hell, I hope you whip the crap out of SG. I think it will be interesting to see how they perform against a top caliber team (outside the friendly confines of DFW) without help from the ref's. . . To tell the truth, I don't think they have a chance of winning unless they bring the officials with them . . . ;)

Go Lufkin! I am not sure I will be at the game....gotta see if I am working that day but I will darn sure have the radio on and listening! I sure hope you guys are right about the scoring. I'd love to see a halftime score of Lufkin 37, SG 3. I love being at the game when the announcer makes broadcasts of scores in other games. People that truly follow the games know what other games are going on and when an announcement is made of a certain team whipping another team unexpectedly and the crowd goes "WHOOOOOOOOO".
Ya'll have heard it before, right? SG is not familiar with playoff action are they? They haven't been there too much before have they?
Well, anyhow....Good Luck Pack! Make us proud.

South got penalized 12 times against LH on Friday, one being a 40 yd td being called back (costing us 4 points). Hey guess what? We won! Good teams find a way to overcome penalties. Heck, your TE got a gift reception after creaming our safety on the 5 yard line. No call. Quit your *****ing and quit comparing a game where you got beat straight up to a ****.

They've won no state championships.. But what you better look at is what have they done since Coach Moss and his staff have been in town... I think that is where you should be worried.. He's taken the program in (4yrs) to places it has never been. Check those stats out!! He didn't inherit an established program like the cross town Ollies....
And if you people really think the city kids give a crap about who's in the stands you are sadly mistaken.. I understand that a one horse town is different and everybodys uncle festus is in the stands but these kids don't show up to play for anyone but themselves and the team..
Ya'll better be glad the s'tangs aren't in it! ;)

South Garland had five penalties for 45 yards.
this is what i was looking for...Ignore the facts if you like
All you just told us is that SG had opportunities to score more points than they did... Also, Longview marched it up and down the field but failed to do so. Looks like by the penalty yards you showed, Longview didn't have but 15 yards of penalities in the second half... What happened to them there?? Why didn't they score more points since the officials obviously stopped picking on them???

Look, I have nothing but respect for SGHS program. However, GHS has more support and a better fan base. That is a fact. I wish all the fans who come to the SG-GHS game were also there for their playoff games, but they aren't.

The rumor (started by Garland High School by the way) that South Garland doesn't have a big following is simply untrue. There will be plenty of fans at the game wearing blue....given the location, and the fact that Lufkin is a one horse town, there will likely be more Panther fans there, but the South side will have its fair share ~3-4k

Likely be more Panther fans? Lufkin draws about 9k to a midseason borefest against the likes of Conroe Oak Ridge. Expect about 12k. They wont all be diehard Pack fans but because Nac is only 15 mins from Lufkin you will get a lot of people that this will be the only playoff game they go to this year. And there are 4 other high schools within 10 mins of Lufkin so those people will be there. And some from Nac, Longview, Garrison, Center, etc. Believe me you will be surrounded on the visitor side and they will be there before you so if you expect to get seats you will probably need to be there by noon. See ya Saturday!

That would be awesome - I hope you are right. I'll be there, and I know there are some other GHS fans who are planning to come, too.
Looking forward to this one - hopefully, it'll be a matchup to see who gets to face the Owls for the regional championship. :D
I have gone to sales in Lufkin, and have seen 200 or 300 hundred hourses in the sale, And some nice ones! All I know is Lufkin has the best fan base in Texas, Someone said on another board ,that if the game was played at the South Garland practice field, Lufkin fans would outnumber Souths by 4-1 :(
