OK, We played your team and I'm tired of hearing about Florida football. We won, come back a few weeks before next years game and we will talk again.
Until then go back to that great Florida High School Football board for all the fans of that great Florida Football and chit chat all you want.

I thought it was good for the board and its advertisers to have as many people post here as possible. OOS Football threads are usually about how it relates to Texas HS football anyway. In my opinion, if we're going to be selective about thread topics, I'd suicide most of the political and non sports related threads (particularly the ones with naked dudes) before I'd put a ban on OOS threads. So certain fans want to hash and rehash the same argument over and over. Move on to another thread if you don't care for it. OOS fans wanting to post here should be viewed as a testament to the quality of the site, providing they stay within the admins' posting guidelines. JMHO

The Florida threads always end up locked because of the nature of the discussion, so I don't think it will be a problem moving forward. It's clear to me the following three topics simply can't be discussed in a civil manner:
1. Politics
2. Religion
3. Comparing Texas and another state when it comes to high school football (or anything else for that matter)

Stop starting threads about Florida teams and we'll have no reason to be here. The last thread started about Florida schools was from somebody located in Arlington. The one before that was entitled "Who are the GOOD teams in Florida," which wasn't started by any of us either. Sorry :(
Plus, they're pretty fun to post on, the last got about 225 responses and I don't think its locked yet.
Not to mention that there are countless other threads on here. If you don't like ONE then you can go and post on any of the other 50+ that grab a few posts throughout the day.

There's 2 different boards that you could go to if you were being serious.
This one is about 75% North Florida, Big Bend, Panhandle, and alot of Tampa area and Polk County area posters there as well. You'll only find a little bit about South Florida teams on here. There's also more seldom used boards for the individual classes as well. The link is for the general, all class board.

This one is more South Florida, but its not nearly as well designed or active as the previous. Everything here is about St. Thomas or Lakeland and that really isnt much of an exaggeration.

Hey Texas Bob-just a friendly reminder that the days draw near for the demise of what was Odessa Permian's old football stadium now located in Leander. You stated many months ago you would like to see it one more time before it hits the recycle bin. Well, there is a little skirmish for bragging rights that will be held on November 7 between Cedar Park and Leander. Unless either one of these two schools make the playoffs out of 16-5A AND win a coin toss to host a playoff game, then this will probably be the last high school football game this venerable old stadium will ever host. Hope you can make it!

I went and watched Cypress Bay vs South Plantation tonight. Cypress Bay won the game 21-7. South Plantation got their 7 points with about 30 seconds left before halftime when the ref blew the call on a South Plantation fumble and allowed them to keep the ball.
Cypress Bay also played without their best player LB & FB- Shane Gordon who is nursing some kind of leg injury but looks healthy and I expect he'll play next week against Everglades HS.

No matter how much better one team is than the other, S. Plan and Cypress always play a close game. I was a bit surprised at the 14-7 halftime score, but that's usually how their games end up.

Just by to mention that both sites I posted earlier in the thread are both free.
For the rivals link, under where it says "Football Central" near the top left it says register. That's it.
So you may NOW participate any time you'd like on the Florida boards seeing as they do not charge for either, that's only if you wanted the inside recruiting info and inside interviews.

It shouldnt of been. It should of been 14-0 at halftime but the ref blew a totally obvious call when a South Plantation RB fumbled the ball on like the 10 yard line and the two near by refs called it a fumble.
Then another official from the other side of the field comes in and they have a 10 minute conversation and call the kid down.
It was a fumble 100% no doubt.
The second half was mostly pathetic by both teams. At one point there was 4 turnovers in a row. I think in the second half there was like 7 turnovers total.
Also, Cypress Bay didnt play with their best player LB & FB- Shane Gordon was nursing an injury but looks to be ready to play this coming week.
PS. I'll also add this. If RB-Jason Douglass would actually "grow a set" and stop trying to outrun everyone to the sideline on every carry and actually cut-up and take it up field he would get another 100 yards a game. He always tries to outrun everyone to the sideline and gets cutdown 95% of the time. The best "HIGH SCHOOL RB" on Cypress Bay is the Dee kid. He'll actually run it up the middle and go North & South.

That's the same South Plantation team you said sucked when we beat them earlier this year.
Cypress Bay was beating a 1-7 Hollywood Hills team 21-14 in the 4th quarter last week. Now they beat an average, borderline playoff team 21-7.

Cypress will be fine and will probably meet up with Northwestern in the semi finals, and you're crazy if you think Douglas isn't one of the best playmakers or RB's around.. I was convinced last year but this year he produced it when it counted again,Dee is good and South Plant was his game he owned(1st 100 yd game),Douglas had a couple games this year where he owned it and cut up all over the field. Dee is the secret though and still runs hard as hell.Cypress is starting to throw it around better too, that might cause even more trouble. The Everglades game will be one of the most emotional of the year whether its close or not.

Thats just cause Coach Guandolo (Cypress Bay) and Coach Smith (STA) have been rivals since Guandolo was at Chaminade and STA always refused to play CM because it was 2a. But now since Guandolo is at CB they should play sooner or later even though STA is pretty darn good.
I think its cause he is an STA supporter so he takes on Smith's vendettas a little, no offense. STA still wins state and national. Katy beat a good Florida Team.

That'd be great.
Take our 5A Champ and our 4A champ.
6A is terrible this year and would get beaten by our own 3A, 4A, and 5A champs and most likely the runne up in 3A and about 7-8 others from 5A.

Douglas is decent RB. He aint no future Superstar though. I've seen him 3 times this year in person and once on tv (Katy vs CB). He always tries to bounce everything to the outside and 90% of the time he gets cut-down before he get the edge.
If he would just cut-back and take it inside he would get an easy 6 or 7 yards but he tries to bounce it and gets nothing.;)
Now, if you want to talk about God-Given Natural ability with speed and quickness he has a lot of it. He aint big at all but he has nice quickness & accerlation.
The DEE kid isnt afraid to pound it inside for a tough 5 yards and break one everynow and then.
Douglass future in D-1A football is a special teams type of player. He wont be starter because he doesnt like to get hit taking it inside where a D-1A RB has too.;)
PS. Cy-Bay passing game is very very far from polished. It's really no better now then it was in Sept. Green threw a nice deep fade pass against South Plantation that was about 1 inch over the DB's fingers and the WR made a great catch. Other then that one pass the Cy-Bay passing game was below average against SP and the game looked like a charity event with all the turnovers by both teams.

Yeah, I know. Just having some fun. It has been epic reading the various plays on the teams/strengths/etc. I will say this, I guess I just don't get Florida football. When I see a team ranked in the top 5 or so of the 6A poll, and then read by posters that a 3A or 2A team would beat them, I just don't get it. Well, howdy y'all. As any properly raised Southern/Texas lady would say, welcome to the board. I haven't ventured out and read any of your posts but bless your hearts for sharing your thoughts. I don't know much about Ohio football, but I know Florida has some good programs. Afterall didn't Burt Reynolds play football there? Anyway, I just don't know enough about your programs to even begin to talk about them, which is probably the case with y'all and Texas programs. So none of us should really be bragging about better this or that since you can't really compare them either way. I mean, afterall, we don't play the same teams or even play by the exact same rules. It would be more interesting to me to hear how things are going over there.
Love of high school football is a common bond we all share. We should all enjoy discussing instead of using it as a catalyst to argue. Goodness sakes alive there is enough in this world to argue about....politics anyone? :D (jkg KT)

Let me fix that for you:
St. Thomas and Armwood against Katy would be something to watch.
Your proposed games would be epic beat downs.
WHOPPER!
Have you ever seen STA play? As somebody who cannot stand that program nor their fans all I can do is respect what that program does every year (however they do it...*cough* recruit).
I think Trinity would be in for a very rude awakening when STA would throw that stable of tailbacks at them. STA's running game is equal to that of Trinity at worst, and after watching the game vs. Allen and how that D line was stood up over and over again I know that STA would gash that D.
The Trinity O looked pretty damn strong. O line BLEW Allen off the ball every time which helped them chew clock, if it wasn't for that those Allen boys' would have passed up and down the field all day.
Question, If those two teams played again, does anyone think Allen would win this time?
Have you ever seen Armwood either, OP?
That D shut down Aaron Murray and had him fleeing for his saftey all night when they beat Tampa Plant 9-2, now that they've found their offense they're 10X more dangerous.
STA and Armwood ain't Cy Bay.
This years Katy team is better than all you give them credit for, but they'd have no shot against STA or Da Wood.
Those matchups against Trinity and Allen are more than appropriate and I'd be more than willing to bet that it splits 1-1 in either direction.

No way that happens in Texas. { slcdragonfan scratches his head in consternation }.
I guess I'll just have to go back to drawing my Alamo pictures and dreaming of seceding from the Union.:p
That's the thing with us too, just the opposite.
I don't see how other teams are written off just because they aren't 5A. I don't see what difference that would make, if you have a great coach with some great talent then it shouldn't matter how many guys you have to draw from.
I will say though that it is not that normal that 6A is so down this year. Its the 4th best class behind 5A, 3A, and 4A.
In terms of 2A and 2B there's maybe 1 teams in each of those classes that could run with the other classes but that's about it (Pahokee and Madison County...on ESPNU on Friday against our #15 Godby).
5A is where about 9 of the top 14-15 teams come from this year. Just a weird year, lots of transition as to who the power teams are, problem for them is that all of those 5A teams that have risen up have to go through St. Thomas...bad bad timing for them.
How is Katy doing lately?
How are their chances to make a little run in the playoffs looking?
Even though they have 2 losses do you think they will be able to make it back into the top 25 if they finish off w/o losing going into playoff games?

At the same time, I don't think you realize that size of that STA O line, or the mean streak those guys have. South Florida isnt exactly a traditional breeding ground for O line, but STA has pedigree in that area, no slouches ever suit up for that STA O line.
They're a factory for O lineman. Recent STA lineman are Sam Young and Dan Wegner at ND, and Andrew Datko at FSU. A couple other of their recent guys went to some D1AA (I still call it that) and Ivy League schools as well.
Their backs are just as sick. At least 3 deep of high level guys with their stud Gio who will be on the team next year, so you guys will get a chance to see him when STA goes to Texas to play whoever it is that gets lined up with them.
This year, I'm not sure about next though, is a year when they're STACKED at WR. Duron Carter, Difton, and their TE are all top level guys that will be breaking games open on Saturday's next year.
It'd be a great game.

So basically the Fla posters are saying that St T.A. would hang 60 or so on Cy Bay - right? Cause Katy would be no match for them.
Didn't I see St T.A. against an Ohio team - no, that must have been someone else - the team I saw sure didn't look like it could put 60 on Cy Bay.
As for how Katy is doing - the team continues to be a work in progress, I keep seeing improvement - they are currently ranked 10th in the greater Houston area and second in our own district. I would guess they are in the top 40 in the state now.

STA hung 65 on a then consensus Nationally ranked top 25 in Deerfield Beach which also was at the time (2 weeks ago) the #1 team in florida 6A. Final score was 65-10, DB only scored when it was already 55-0. (I don't like using polls like that but its all we have to go by when doing cross-state comparisons)
That Ohio team that they happened to beat in their 1st game of the season happens to be Elder, the #1 team in Ohio and a Top 20 National team as well.
Yes, STA would put at least 50 on Cy Bay if they wanted. Cy Bay is a very good team that is efficient and better disciplined than any of their Florida opponents, but STA is in a class of their own. Cy Bay capatilizes on other teams lack of discipline which allows them to Wing-T a team to death, Katy wa smart and stayed home. Cy Bay had no clue what hit em' because the last team they saw built around fundamental's was themselves in their pre season scrimmage where the O got blown out.
Cy Bay is legit Top 7 in 6A right now, and would most likely be about 11-13th in 5A where STA is. Cy Bay is a very good team that Katy can most def hold up as a big win, but to the OP that thought that CB is even close to STA is crazy.
Good for Katy, hopefully they put all those doubters away and pull some shockers. That Webber kid is no joke. Katy got written off way to early because of that Woodlans game but hopefully they can repeat as champs. There couldn't possibly be anything better to see than that...except maybe a title for Cy Bay.:D

From what I see...the 2A schools can compete with the 6A schools in Florida....I don't think that can happen here...there is a HUGE gap between 2A and 5A here....only a handful of 4A teams can compete with the top tier 5A teams

Depth is a HUGE issue...I can't think of a 3A school that would be competative in 5A unless its in the inner city(HISD)..there is a huge gap. There are a FEW 4a schools...Lamarque and Highland park that could compete in 5A.
The passing game is coming along, Green is getting better and better or maybe should I say more consistent. As 4 that RB situation I don't know if I can agree with you there because I've seen Douglas play probably triple you did.North Miami Beach last year him and Decaro the '08 back powered the ball up the gut all night through a monsoon and both ran for over 130 but lost. Douglas and Dee can both pound when the coach wants them to another example is this years Miramar when Dee ran over 2 linebackers to score and Douglas forced his way in to score a 2pt conversion. All night they were pounding away at Miramar's #2 defense in the county. As for College they'll put the weight on him and he'll contribute on special teams and will be a good a change of pace back and eventually even play consistently once he impresses. Also in Spread or SIngleback offense he won't have to run outside as much as the wing t is designed for. Therefore he will be able to just run it straight up the gut.Dee will always be a great runner also because of his ability to contribute along with Douglas and yes he does give more of a power back (Thats why he plays fullback) feeling but both are good.

They usually let the offense for the other team free for the first two drives and figure them out. After that they do a good job of shutting down offenses. They have a Texas commit in Barnett db and he is TALL.

I still don't really get why you have 2 state champs in 5A, I guess its due to travel and amount of teams, which would make sense.
After this season I believe the numbers get reopened to change so maybe something will happen where we have just 2A and just 1A.

The Florida 5A's & 6A's and even some 4A's would all be Texas 5A's.
Gilmer,Tx (3A) and schools like Pahokee (2A) remind me a lot of each other. If you look at both teams play the past couple of seasons you would see that both possess about the same amount of talent, depth and speed and both schools have about the same enrollment numbers.

I'll go with what I've seen of Douglass. I've seen many High school RB's that have gone on to the BCS Conferences and the NFL and Douglass is far from being near those catagories (IMO).
He can go to maybe a FAU, FIU or UCF and get some decent backup playing time but he wont go to a BCS (SEC, ACC , Big East) program. I just dont see that happening.
He is a nice back with some good quickness and accerlation. I can see him going to a school like FAU and serving in the same capacity as former Hollywood-Chaminade RB- Willie Floyd.

Green's threw the fade pass into endzone that was a nice catch by the Wr's but he also threw several passes that could of been pickoff and had many incomplete. Anyway, Cypress Bay passing game isnt how they win. They win by using tons of misdirection running plays and trying to confuse the defense.

That's what I've told you before DownSouth.
I would of loved to seen Gilmer,Tx vs Pahokee, Fl last season (2007).
And I've always agreed with you on that.
What I always said was that there was a few teams in lower classes such as last years Pahokee (2B) and Madison (2A) teams, along with Glades Central (3A), St. Augustine (3A), and of course Armwod (4A) and Plant (4A)that could do well in Texas 5A along with a couple of others. Armwood being the only legit school this year that could really do damage in Texas playoffs out of small school Florida (though 4A isnt necessarily considered a "small" school, its obviously not as high in enrollment as 5A and 6A).
My only contention was you thinking that our actual 5A couldn't field any more than 2-3 teams that could be Texas Top 25, when our 5A has a good 9-11 teams that could more than hold their own, 4A has a few, 3A has couple, which brings it back to that number of 15-17 that I said earlier that we ended up posting through for 12 pages or however long it was.
6A I wouldn't argue that we have nobody strong enough to handle Texas Top 25 this year as its quite weak. Maybe Apopka or Northwestern could crack rankings for awhile but other than that its a weak class this year, moreso now that Deerfield has about 5-7 starters banged up and 2-3 key starters out for the year, along with an impact player that started the season missing the first 6 games.
And btw, last year's Pahokee team was a real team. Nu' Keese wasnt their QB, he was at his natural WR spot while they had a true QB running the show. This year they have no true positions, it essentially just let the playmakers play. Last year they could've played with anyone in the country. This isnt last year though so I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to a team that could go 2-3 deep with quality enough to beat the Pahokee front line of stars. Numbers and obviously the Griffith situation did them in against Byrnes. Too fast, too strong proved true in that game.
If Gilmer is good this year then it'd be much more evenly matched and probably a great game if you like to see the final score 53-42 type of games.

I think I can speak for quite a few people in Florida that would prefer something more like that.
I still don't really get why you have 2 state champs in 5A, I guess its due to travel and amount of teams, which would make sense.
After this season I believe the numbers get reopened to change so maybe something will happen where we have just 2A and just 1A.
Texas is a physically huge state - if we had 6A the teams would be spread out too much and the travel distances during the regular season would be too great every week. We split things into two groups of 5A because we would have to have another week (17 games) to include the 128 team bracket. That would put the playoffs into Christmas. The regular season gets rid of half of the teams - playoffs culls down to the champions. You include half of the teams to try to insure that you don't throw away a team like Pflugerville last year - meh during regular season - but put it together during the playoffs and made a great run.

This is probably a controversial statement, but it's my opinion for whatever it's worth: Half of the teams that make the playoffs probably shouldn't be there. I can remember years ago some great 1 loss teams in Texas didn't make the playoffs, because only the district champions made the trip. But if you have an 8 team district I see no reason why you would need to send half of the teams to the playoffs. That's an NHL-Hockey-like system. Hehe.
