This poll basically say that the Latinos are not gonna vote for Obama. The poll has McCain getting 70% of their vote, with Obama getting 80% of the black vote. What if this mirrors the civilian vote?

Depends on the branch. Marines a have mucho. In Army, I was in the infantry, we had very few blacks and Latinos, but the Field Artillery was basically all black. Are their numbers close to what the blacks are? If this does mirror society, then Obama is in trouble out west.

Interesting numbers.
The Latino stuff is sorta shocking to me as most Latinos lean towards socialism. But then, we're talking about military people. And they almost always will go with the republican candidate. I have my theories as to why, but that's of no use to this conversation.
The numbers for blacks voting for Obama tend to back up what everyone has been saying all along. That being that blacks are going to vote for Obama because he's black. Or percieved as black anyway.
The reason why I say this is because when a large majority of the military (as a whole) are voting one way and the black people in the military are doing something completely different, there has to be a reason for this. And it certainly cannot be because Obama is strong on military.

I was signal.....there were very FEW Latinos in that field. And like I said....Blacks normally vote Democrat any way....if Obama was republican and got all the black vote....I would atleast listen to the "Blacks voting for him because he's black" argument......

What do you mean by "how many of these people can actually vote? Almost all people in the military are over 18 and the military has a very active absentee ballot campaign.

I can tell you the majority feeling in my latino family... we don't give a :Censor: about all this kiddy political drama... its funny because we can see everyones madness... we sit on the outside and watch the U.S. rear its ugly head...

Last election it was something like 88% to 11%. The Howard Stern thing proved that there are a lot of people that have no idea what they are talking about...not that they are racist. He could have done the same thing with white Republicans in some hick farm town where everyone votes Republican but aren't sure why. Uninformed does not equate to racist.
Now if the tally goes up a large margin say 5+% my opinion would start changing a little but I don't think that will happen.

The Military Times offered certain caveats for its poll, which was open only to its 80,000 subscribers. Responses were entirely voluntary and were not focused on a representative sample of the public, as scientific polls are. The troops polled were also somewhat older than average enlisted servicemembers and included more officers than is representative of the military as a whole.

convicted felons can vote. One of the items that we give inmates before release is a voter registration card. They can even vote absentee by mail while they are locked up if they were already registered. :confused:

It varies from state to state.
Texas: Who can vote in Texas?
To be eligible to register to vote in Texas, any United States citizen residing in Texas who is:
* At least 18 years old on Election Day
* Not a convicted felon (unless sentence, probation and/or parole are completed)
* Not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

Only two states allow voting from prison and there are 12 states that you indefinitely lose your right to vote but it can be granted based on date of crime, type of crime, and other circumstances. Most states have their own criteria after you have been released... a lot of states take away your right to vote indefinitely if the crime was murder, ****, crime against a child, incest, or other heinous crimes.

They are not dropping out of school in 9th grade, getting pregnant and selling drugs and murdering? Sterotypes? Look at HISD, DISD and AISD and tell me what the problem is at the schools they want to shut down?

Latino does not mean your hispanic or Spanish by the way... your considered latin.. which means your from a country where the orgin of language was latin... firebird taught me that one...
now... I can only speak for myself but I'm lucky enough to understand 2 different languages fluently... can't speak either one but I understand them...
I'm Cuban which is different from Mexico... you are speaking more for Mexicans than anything... because Cubans are very scarce here in Central Texas... So really putting all hispanics in one category is falsifying...
If I thought my vote mattered it would be for McCain... so really the sterotyping has got to go...

They were trying to get him to hire LATINOS, when there are WAY more Latinos working for the city and county than blacks. They never went to Toby Futrell with this trash!

It won't completely match the civilian vote, but I'm going to do my picks and this race is a lot closer than the media says.

He does have Gen Wesley Clark (perhaps the most hated Army general in recent memory) and Gen Merril McPeak, the worst Chief of Staff of the Air Force ever. Yes, he was even worse than Gen Moseley who was just fired as the Air Force Chief of Staff. McPeak attempted to "change" everything in the Air Force. When he retired, the next chief of staff reversed almost every single change McPeak made. McPeak was credited with doing away with Strategic Air Command (the nuclear command). Have you guys heard about the recent problems with Air Force nukes? Well, it all goes back to McPeak's decision. Of course McPeak is backing Obama - he's all about "change".

I would be willing to bet the military votes in larger percentages than the general public. We have voting officers in each unit that distribute information on how to vote in your state of record.

The ones back home vote by absentee ballot. I was in the military for 20 years and voted absentee 17 of the 20 years I didn't live in my home state. Voted in person the other 3 years. The military encourages voting.

Virginia governor election always follows the year after the Presidential election. House of Delegates is every 2 years in odd numbered years. Senate is every 4 years in odd numbered years. Since they vote in odd years and Congress votes in even numbered years, you end up voting every year.
I grew up on the western side of the state in the Shenandoah Valley. Lived in NoVA while I was stationed at the Pentagon.
