I know that a game still separates these two powerhouses but it seems like a likely match-up in 2 weeks. 3 weeks ago and this would have been a blow out but I really have a feeling that tradition and a rejuvinated(SP) Converse Judson team can pull this off. Judson has layed it all on the field these past two weeks and have nothing to loose. Westfield is coming off a huge wins against North Shore. Do you like Judsons chances of pulling off an upset.

Judson will come to play football baby. Anything can happen in the 5A playoffs. We already have Longview going home and the upset bug is not over yet. I think this will be closer then the experts think.

Westfield 42 Judson 17,,,, I love the rockets but they just don't have the man power to keep up with Westfield this year. I hope I'm eating my word's in 2 weeks but right now Judson needs to think about get by Harlingen first....

The Red Sea parted for the Moses of Exodus. Can it part for Moses Judson High School??
http://www.geocities.com/eingedi.geo/moses_judson.html
The Moses of Exodus also struck a rock to get pure water when the people of Israel needed it. In the late 1800's Moses Judson struck the Edwards Aquifer Formation rock to get pure water when the people of Bexar County needed it, thus drilling the first artesian well into that formation (previously water was obtained from either shallow non-Edwards wells, or from the San Antonio River). History has an uncanny way of repeating itself in the most ironic of ways. Will it again w/r the "Red Sea" analogy? We'll just have to wait and see.

Please pass the pipe.........Judson took care of business tonight. It took the best they had, but they did. From the sound of it WF has improved over last year and I'm not sure the Rockets are as good as they were last year. WF beat a good Rocket team last year with a perfect and well executed game plan. The Judson coaches have seen them before. As the pack fan said, anything can happen but it would be a bigger upset than SLC losing to Laredo United. I say WF by 3+ TDs.

I agree that Harlingen should be the first thought not anything else. If we should have to meat up with Westfield I do not think Judson will get with in 3 touchdowns of tose guys. I thought they had a very good team last year and they are 10 times better tham last year. Judson can play defense, but that can only last so long. I really am surprised we have gotten this far and that is good for both the kids and the coaching staff, but at this point I feel Westfield is in the drivers seat for their first state title.

I like Judson's chances because it's in San Antonio, the Rockets can play defense, the offense is getting better, they have a real weapon on their side even if he's not used much, and they're Judson. Being Judson still counts for something.

It all started at the lowest point of the season. Churchill shut us out for the first time in forever and it looked like we'd miss the playoffs. We were all upset about the offense and I did a thread saying we needed to support the team against Madison. The fans did support and do their best in a losing effort. They lost the game, but a few people at the game started to see the light at the end of the tunnel and they haven't been beat in the 4 games since then.

Northshore is better this year than they were last year and still could not beat Westfield. So unless Judson is better than they were last year it could be a long day for your defense. I am not trying to sound like a know it all, but I believe the state champion in D1 was determined last night in region 3 play. No coach would say that because it is not PC, but that's what I think. This ain't 96 anymore. You may have a chance if it rains like heck during the game and you win the turnover margin by three or four turnovers. But Westfield has improved in that area. No fumbles last night. 1 pick. That was only Beasley's second interception of the year.

Lonny I know that you have not seen Judson play, but your heart is always with the Rockets. I can tell for a fact that Judson will be in the game for name only. I to could come here and say Judson will beat Westfield, but I can't this year. Judson playe better offense last night but did it against a bunch of good 10 and 11 graders. I know Westfield is loaded with Div 1 solid talent, and you can say anybody can win on any given day, but it won't be on that day. After last years gaem I left with respect for Westfield, they did not showboat and they played within themselves unlike most Houston teams. If you were here to see Judson this year, you to would think like most honest Rocket fans. I am not saying that Judson would lie down, we all know they will play as heard as they can, but in the end Westfield would be to much to overcome. Lets try to stay focused on Harlingen, which has as good as chance as ever this year to pull the upset.

You missed the point exbuff. Rockets are still playing your team is now paying. I wasn't referring to you personally. As I said WF has more talent than the Rockets, so has many area Houston schools in the past such as Stratford, Ike, Ike, Ike, Ike, etc. and Judson prevailed. Can the Rockets upset WF well, both teams still have a game to play yet. After the next game I will concentrate on a possible WF-Judson game. Until then enjoy having your team pay to watch the remaining playoff games.

Hey I'm just happy the Rockets made the playoffs this year. I saw Harlingen play Reagan the first week at the Dome in the kickoff classic and Harlingen has some size and strength but they do not have the team speed that Judson has , Judson 31 Harlingen 14..........then the next week , Judson will need kyle Fox back for that one.............Spring Westfield 42 Judson 14.......But the good news is Judson made the playoffs when everybody in San Antonio had written them off and had Reagan making the playoffs instead. Reagan will have to pay for the next two weeks to see Judson play.

Judson does not have the same offensive firepower as last year in points and a playmaker that always makes plays. Judson does have a better defense this year.
Westfield played better during the year this year, but has not played better in the playoffs. They should be better, but haven't taken it to the next level, which they should be capable of doing.
This game is in the SA area and that helps Judson.
I don't see the huge blowout that some are predicting. Besides losing to a talented Westfield team, Judson was up against playing their worst game of the year and having bad luck go against them. Judson was not 14 points worse than Westfield, but they played that way last year.

I don't condone personal attacks, but I will say this. Plano fans choice of words over the last month concerning Judson has brought a lot of animosity towards your program. If you don't want people to say that about you, try choosing your words more carefully.
It really is a 2-way street. I say turn the other cheek when somebody says something out of line, but I also know human nature takes over and people want to fight back. Judson fans don't appreciate all the things that Plano has said about us for at least a month now and you're feeling the effects of it.

I do see a parallel between Plano's decline and Judsons possible slow decline. It always happens when a 2nd school takes a way kids and support. It isn't immediate but a slow decline over a 10 year period. That is what happened at Plano. Maybe it won't happen at Judson but 6-4 this year isn't typical judson.
You told me that plano would go 0-10 when I was playing at Plano I would of laughed in your face.

It isn't immediate but a slow decline over a 10 year period. That is what happened at Plano. Maybe it won't happen at Judson but 6-4 this year isn't typical judson.
You told me that plano would go 0-10 when I was playing at Plano I would of laughed in your face.
6-4 is not typical, but 3 of the 4 losses are going to come to dirty dozen teams, so it's not like they lost to chumps. That other loss came to a team that beat a dirty dozen team.
I think there's a lot more to losing than new schools opening. It can be a crutch that you depend on, but other schools have less students and can still win. I think the bigger problem is that new schools raid the old school's coaching staff and they don't recover.

Judson has a great tradition, but I don't care what planet they play this game if it happens. WESTFIELD wins handily!!!! I don't feel they are as good as NS 03 but they are pretty close.
Hey, we can play on another planet since we're the Rockets. I'll take a game on Venus! :p

What's funny is had this site been around for a while longer you would have heard the same argument against Judson vs. Region 3 rep quite often. I don't think there were the "power polls" and whatnot that lonny qoutes 15 years ago, but we probably were underdogs in '92, '93, '95, '96, '98, '02, and '04. The last one was more of a toss up than an underdog, and we got beat by a team that played disciplined ball, which we had only seen from a Houston area team once before - '94 Katy. If, and that is a big IF in my book, Westfield continues to play smart football, there should be no question as to the outcome of the semifinal game. However, 6 of the last 7 times we have played a Big Bad Houston team they have made mental mistakes and haven't capitalized on their superior athleticism. One good semifinal game does not make a trend. Westfield certainly has the athletes and what appears to be the coaching in order to execute well and win state, but I am holding judgement until the game is played.
With that said, Go Rockets, beat the Cardinals!

Thank you very much. I have to ask how many times Region 4 has to beat Region 3 to get an acknowledgment that we can compete.

I know Judson has to beat them, but you have to have a reason for saying Harlingen will win. It can't be just because we assume Judson will move on.

lonny i am sure you would agree that looking past one's next opponent has been the downfall of teams before. is that not a possible reason for a team to lose? i know you can go in and dig out tons of numbers and stats and pile them up on me so i will not even attempt that. i participate on this board for entertainment purposes only. and many of your comments and arguments are entertaining. i am just making a point that judson has another game to play before they get to the semi's and play someone else. this thread alone should give harlingen plenty of motivation to try and kick it up a notch this week. good luck!

The problem with your argument is that it is not the Judson coaches or players that are overlooking Harlingen, but some of their fans that are posting on this board. If the Harlingen football team thinks that Judson is overlooking them and that will allow them to surprise them, then they will have a rude awakening. IMO, Harlingen has to play mistake free football to even have a chance. Make no mistake, Coach Rackley will have the Rockets ready to play. Go Rockets!

I remember in 82 (?) when D.W. came to Plano to see how they run their program. D.W. said that helped him then.

i have no doubt about that. ;) i have really been busy the past several weeks. is judson still working with the "spread" or did they return to their past offensive scheme?

You gotta believe NS is better than Judson and Westfield beat them handily at NS's crib - I think Westfield makes last year's game appear close - this one will be over early.

I think the coaches are making an attempt to run the type of offense that Judson has used in the past with much success. The problem I see is that the new coaches really don't comprehend how to do it. Judson still has very talented players, but most of the more talented coaches, other than the head coach, moved over to the new school, so the new coaches just don't have a feel for what traditonal Judson football intails. I still think they have the talent and will to win, so we'll see what happens. Go Rockets!

After watching Westfield play several games this year I would say the team this year is much better than last year for several reasons. The number one reason is the play of an experienced qb who does not make mistakes.
Second is the defense which is extremely talented in the front.
Last, the Westfield players have gained valuable experience in the playoffs and are focused rather than in awe.
I will put on a sombrero and run the riverwalk naked if the Rockets beat Westfield in two weeks!!!!

It's all about the talent you have on the field. Plano has the same coaching staff today as they did in 03 record was 0-10 then and 12-0 today.

Westfield has to come to SA, but they declined to play at Judson Stadium. I would think a teams with that much Div. I players and high ranking would enjoy coming to Judson and playing on the Rockets home field. SW is trying to dictate even the time and neutral place. That won't be their choice entirely. Guess they are a little leery of having to travel out of the safe confines of the Houston area. From everything I've read on the board, it shouldn't make any difference where they play. Of course, I doubt if they will bring many fans anyway, if Judson & SW make it to the semifinals.

That doesn't make sense. We had flips that Westfield obviously won. They had to have won the flip choosing home location because the Astrodome is nowhere close to being neutral. What's the purpose of the 2 in 3 rule if one team can dictate where they won't play? I guess you're getting a pseudo home game for free and they don't want to give you too much of an advantage.

ok, loonie23, telll me how it is not fair. astrodome or alamodome. you were only hoping for a game in your backyard.
and of course, it does not matter where, wf will drill judson into the ground.

It's simple how it's not fair. They flipped for stuff last year and Westfield got to pick where they wanted to play. This year is supposed to be Judson's year and I don't understand how Westfield can nix Judson's plans.

They do up to 2 flips when they determine the locations. It might've been a neutral flip win for Westfield last year. I'd like to know the results of the flip so it could give us insight about next week...or we can wait until Friday night!:D

Sometimes they might take into consideration for playing in a larger facility like a dome because of the weather, ticket sales $ and availability.

Weather is rarely a factor. Availability may have decided the dome because George is not that big to have 20,000+ crowd. So I don't see a normal high school stadium being chosen to host a state semi. Westfield fans will travel. And so will many others from H-town.
