What is going on in New Braunfels? I know they lost, just curious what is being said among those in the know.

NB has one hell of a football team, easily in the playoffs in most districts around the state. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what did them in this year. They have lost to what appears to be the 4 playoff teams. Madison beat them by 3 and Roosevelt beat them by 5. Can't get much closer than that when it comes to contending in 265a.

They are in one of the toughest 5A districts in the state, not a 4A district. The teams are bigger, faster and have more depth. They also don't have Perez at QB!

I love that district. It is competitive every week. I will never forget the last time NB went from 4A to 5A in that district and went to the semi's. So is there any outside chance of them making it?

I think the only thing that did them in was the jump from 4A to 5A.. d-train is right. More depth, more talent in this tough 5A district. The NB defense has been going above and beyond the call of duty throughout the season, but I think that the straw finally broke the camel's back in the Reagan game. The D finally bended and we have a blowout loss. I'd rather have it be this way; you have to beat the best to be the best, and there is no district that NB can be in that is better than 26-5A.

And no, the team did not have a drop off from last year (my opinion). We had some good victories over NB Canyon 35-0 and Seguin 51-6, so we know the team is good. Just goes to show that just because New Braunfels was an elite 4A program doesnt mean they are good enough to be in the playoffs in 5A :(

Nevertheless I am very proud of NB high! Go Unicorns! I am proud of their efforts this year!

People don't realize that there starting middle linebacker was out for parts of key games....the 4th quarter against Madison and 2nd half against SV.Then in a key that they needed to make the playoffs last week they lost their QB in the first quarter. They would have made it in any other district in the state and are the best team not in the playoffs this year when healthy IMO.

Totally agree, though injuries are just part of the game and it can't be helped. In retrospect I think NB should have beaten Madison in Week 2 for the 4th playoff spot. Funny how things turn out.

Tom Wort played last week. I think he was hurt earlier in the year - not sure if he missed any games.

Wort missed a few games this year. But returned for TR and Reagan. Missed some of the Mavs and was really a shell of himself vs SV. (finally sittin' for the 2nd half)

Though, NB wasn't all Wort, that defense has PLAYERS !! Tanner Brown was a beast, John Bordano (Jr) is a player, and the best name in 26-5A, Ryan Grametbaur, could play. NB's defense just needed a running game. That's what I think did in NB this year.

I hope that they will be as competitive next year. I love it when they are succesful it shuts people up about our mascot.:) Good luck this off season and lets get back to business this off-season.

As long as we are not Matadors or Cougars, I dont care what you call us.;) Lots of tradition and pride in Unicorn Country. I use to think we needed another mascot, but when we win how does that make you feel to get beat by a bunch of Unicorns?:)

I havent even taken a serious look as next year yet; still just hoping we can beat out Johnson and MacArthur to end at least with a winning season 6-4? I dont see a big drop off; I think there were some decent teams coming up.

NB with be 6-4. As long as NB's defense continues their great play and NB gets solid QB play, its in the bag. Johnson isn't as good as Churchill. And Mac is a poor mans NB. Not that Mac can't play, just not enough players, yet.
But, what do I know ??? :D
