in all honesty, i don't see Tech as being better than about 16th or 17th in the country.

Yes, really. What have they done on the field to even substantiate a 16 or 17? look at some of the teams they are ahead of: LSU, for instance. I do not think if they played this week, even if it was in Dallas or San Antonio, that Tech would be favored.

I know I have said all year that Tech is worth nothing until they win the games on their schedule. I just do not want anyone to start believing this lofty 7th and 8th best team in the country stuff. The defense is adequate in a conference that demands excellence. The kicking game is severely deficient, in a league that puts a premium on scoring. The offense has been solid, but Harrell still shows glimpses of his old meltdown self with balls thrown away down the middle of the field for picks and such. Maybe seeing them in person this week scared the hell out of me, I don't know. Maybe the second half Raiders from this week will be the ones taking the field in Lawrence. Let's hope so!

Each of the next 4 weeks is going to tell us alot about this team and TSO's staff, whether they win or lose, and how they follow up each successive week.

Poll'sters are crying because USC doesn't have a schedule worth a damn and likely wont make the big game. I'd say break out the roses, Condom-heads... Pasadena is, yet again, your destination... but they've already lost to Oregon State. As long as OSU wins out, the Beavers are Rose Bowl bound... while USC is bound for the thewaywewere.com Bowl!!! F'n brilliance!

Tech will have to prove their Top 10 ranking, finally. Kansas might just be better than Mizzou (IMO)... get ready for a ballgame, Raiders!

Kansas would beat Northwestern, BYU, Georgia Tech, Tulsa and Ball State within inches of their lives! Then again, neither have even impressive wins on their resumes.

The toughest schedules in the Top 5 are...

1) Texas
Okie Lite
@ Texas Tech
@ Kansas
A&M (Rival)
BXII Championship game (likely vs Kansas/Mizzou)

2) Bama
@ LSU
Auburn
SEC Championship game (likely vs Florida/Georgia)

3) OU
@ K-State
@ Aggieland
Texas Tech
@ Okie Lite

4) Penn State
@ Ohio State
@ Iowa
Michigan State

5) USC
Yeah right!

sorry but we will only face okie light once, they are also in the south so UT wouldn't be able to play them again in the Big XII champ.

If your toughest schedules are talking about remaining games, nobody's is tougher than Tech's, even with Baylor on there.

@Kansas
Texas
@OU
Okie State
Baylor
Big XII Champ( maybe)

Pete Carroll must get on his knees a lot for whoever puts these together.

WHY has USC jumped so many spots when they've beaten NOBODY? I mean, if simply winning is what has earned them that jump, then shouldn't Georgia be moving up too? and Tech?

I would love to see USC get escorted into a major bowl game only to get annihilated on national TV.

It's a lovefest like no other with USC. If the media could legally kill to get USC into a major BCS Bowl they would.

I think USC wouldn't want any part of a team like Texas, Bama, Florida, OU or even Penn State. Okay, maybe Penn State..

If they had a decent conference, they could share my outlook, with wanting Tech to just win their games and not worry about the polls..

For USC, even if they win out, they could( and should) be on the outside looking in. That's a beautiful thing, too.:D

Yes it is. Finally, USC gets blocked from the Rose Bowl and a major bowl. It's all too good to be true. Please, God, let it be so.

Well... unless USC loses another game, preferably late in the season, they will still be invited to a BCS bowl even if it isn't the Rose Bowl.

There are several ways to look at 16 or 17. Tech at their worst is on par with the Top 10 teams because Nebraska is at least as good as the teams that Florida and USC lost to, only 5 BCS teams haven't lost and you have a few teams that have lost to other Top 10 BCS teams.

What Tech doesn't have is as good of wins as some of the 1 loss teams, but the next few weeks will answer that.

Tech has a shot to go from most overrated in some minds to most underrated in a 2 week time period.

the two best teams we have played are Kansas State and UMass...

The jury is still out because there is very little evidence that has been submitted.

Personally, I think the Red raiders are overrated. I have them at 8th in the Conference this week, with A&M dropping meteorically from the #1 spot to 9th after the loss in College Station this weekend.

1. Kansas
2. Texas
3. Oklahoma
4. Oklahoma State
5. Baylor
6. Missouri
7. Colorado
8. Tech
9. A&M
10 Nebraska
11 Kansas State
12. Iowa State

12. Iowa StateThe most talented teams we've played were A&M and Nebraska. K-State has a decent team. That Nevada bunch has rolled up yards all year and will go to a bowl game.

For all the grief we get about our schedule, K-State and A&M beat Texas the last 2 years and it took a Jamaal Charles 4th Quarter assault to beat Nebraska in Austin last year and a late FG in Lincoln the year before. Texas was lucky to even go 2-4 the last 2 years vs. the 3 teams we've beat in the Big 12.

you can rationalize it all you want, but we haven't given voters any reason to cast ballots our way yet. tech still has the working end of their schedule to go.

One win at a time...Beat Kansas!

Er... that was last year and Texas didn't have too great of a season. If the most talented teams you have played are 2-5 A&M and 4-3 Nebraska you really haven't played anyone talented then. That will all change in the coming weeks, see if Tech can handle it.

I said nothing about impressing the voters. I agree Tech could've done more, but I will also say they're going up against a major double standard that "Name" teams outside the Top 2-3 aren't held to by voters.

I do think Tech has held back some to prepare for the upcoming games. They'll need that extra push vs. Texas and OU.

Fun for a week and maybe longer:.
The great State of Oklahoma has 3 NCAA Division 1 FBS teams. All 3 are ranked in the top 25.

I'm one of the few OSU fans around here. Do I think they're as good as they're ranked? No.

Can they upset Texas? No way.

Can they beat Tech? It's an even match up.

Can they beat Oklahoma? It's too early to tell.

Can Tulsa get a BCS bid if they go undefeated? No.

Can OSU beat Georgia at Boone Pickens Stadium next year in game 1? It's moved from no way to maybe. It depends on the O-line which loses at least two and Pettigrew the TE. OSU returns the QB, WRs, and RBs.

I only said talent. I didn't say coaching, execution and all the stuff that goes into playing good football. Nebraska made the mistake to try to run with Mizzou, but has played pretty good football the last 2 weeks. A&M is bad right now, but will get better.

Baylor, Kansas, and Okie Lite have worse assembled talent than A&M and Nebraska, but they have better coaching.
