Strake Jesuit is on the verge of going undefeated in district and winning its first ever UIL District Championship in 5a. The memorial Mustangs are having a heck of a season this year with their only loss so far being administered by the Crusaders.

Ike picked the wrong weekend. :D

Only Bears, Tigers, and Sparta stand in their way.

Couldnt have said it better myself...

I wish they were the 9th game of this year (Memorial vs. Stratford should always be our last game)... It would have been a totally different ball game... I dont think we would have made those costly mistakes that killed us... Likewise I think their offense may have been more... diverse I think is the best way to put it... Can only dream about what (I believe) should have been I guess

Stratford and Hastings are going to have to do the Mustangs a big time favor. I don't see it though. You can count out the Tigers on being any help.

Looking at the playoff projections from week 7, Strake might be the favorite from the bottom half of the bracket to make it to the R3 final. I've been thinking either Strake or Madison- mainly because I just like HouMad.

Now why do u think that Spring Woods cant pull off the upset... ;)... I agree... I dont think it will happen though... Stratford is struggling... And Hastings having wins (9-0 against Stratford and Spring Woods) is not really that impressive... They got blown out by the other two Alief schools... Im pretty confident now that Strake will win district... But Im going to dream on about what would have been had Ike not hit :D

Ya that spot is the spot I was hoping wed end up in if Stratford missed the playoffs and we beat Strake (both were entirely possible)... But instead we will have to go through the dog fight that is Division I (unless Stratford misses the playoffs then we will have to play Katy instead - much better right  - needless to say Id rather go D-I)... But I realize that means we will be playing the likes of Hightower, Eisenhower, North Shore, Pearland etc instead - but it does mean that Im confident that we wont lose in the first round... Im not so confident if we play Katy... I think we could win but I dont think we would win...

Anyways my bracketology has us playing Morton Ranch in the first round... Followed by (likely) Lamar... If we play Lamar... That will be one heck of a game...

i dont see strake losing now, but maybe when they play stratford the game will be mean nothing in terms of standings and they rest a lot of their players for playoffs.........wishfull thinking on my part i guess, but it could happen

Strake has proven consistently a private school can hang with the big boys in 5A. Not that I'm a fan of Strake, I see them going 5-0 in district, then deep in the DII playoffs.

Kinda miss Drake and his irritating, yet consistent, input.:)

Only because the bottom half of the Reg 3, Div 2 bracket is awful.

Yeah, I was looking at the board's DII projection and who they'd meet at the Regional final.;):)

Its been a journey of sorts. This is my kids last year and you're right we've been in three districts in four years. I think we have a good shot but still have to get by some good teams. Hastings I think gave Katy a pretty good game last year, and they have the athletes to do the same to us. It depends on which Hastings shows up. Stratford is capable as well, I've only seen them play once (Mem. vs Strat.) It seems the only thing missing (and I'm just guessing) is Senior leadership. That's typically the glue that will hold things together with a young team. If the Seniors aren't vocal then things can kind of just muddle along.

I quite honestly (never thought I would say this):) miss being in the Katy district. I think 18-5a is where we fit especially for our size, but in the Katy district there was always something to discuss. Drake kept things going. I think eveyone on the boards would read our threads just to see what we were going off about. I think a lot of folks have counted Katy out and will be surprise once we hit the playoffs. Coach Counter has always said "one thing about Katy they will always get better and better as the season continues." Good Luck with the rest of your season!:notworthy That Cinco Katy game is shaping up to be a barn burner!

I think what Katytigerdad meant was that if Ike had hit during the weekend we played (memorial vs strake), the game would've been canceled and we both at this point would be undefeated in district, and if Strake & Memorial had won out, we would've been co-district champs without having settled it on the field. :). If you weren't on the board 3-4 years ago you wouldn't get it.:D

I'm guessing if Strake Jesuit has a chance to win the district championship outright AND undefeated, Counter won't rest his guys until the game is in hand.
Strake has passed what I believe are its toughest tests. Hastings at home this coming Friday should have been bigger but the Bears haven't really upheld their end of that deal.

I agree that Stratford has struggled, but don't count us out yet. Our offense took a hiatus last week against Hastings, but we can score points. Mainly, I think, our defense has to get some stops and get off the field and get our O the ball. We've been too susceptible to the power running attack, boy did Memorial ever exploit that. We have a very young team, many juniors and a few sophomores getting significant playing time. Also, because of our youth, the loss of those two nondistrict games has hurt us more than it hurt Memorial, IMO. I think the Stratford / Elsik game (week nine) will determine a playoff spot. We'll have to play better than we have. Of course, we have to beat Spring Woods this week or it's all moot.

Strake and Memorial look like the class of the district right now, but I think neither is so far out ahead of everyone else that they can just mail it in. Strake / Hastings and Memorial / Taylor look like great matchups this weekend.

Stratford definitely needs Hastings to lose and fall out of the three way tie scenarios, so we'll be listening to the score of that game on Friday night while we're playing Spring Woods.

Good luck to all. I'm looking forward to getting my first peek at Strake.

Congrats, Rolltide. I have finally come around to hoping for the best for Strake. I still do not believe it is right to let the privates in with the publics, but I have learned to respect Strake.

Strake could compete in (at the time) 16-5A because the teams below Katy were weak. The 3rd tier teams in that district have raised their collective bars this year.

Strake had a tough time competing in (at the time 15-5A) because so many of the teams were competitive. This year, some of those teams are not doing so well.

I think Strake is in a good district for themselves this year. It fits them better than the last one they were in.

I too, miss StrakeDrake. Once I understood him, I really enjoyed him. Maybe you can bring him back?!!!

Thanks Cyfallsbooster. I will try to talk Drake out of retirement. Although, I'd bet the posters on the Navy and Air Force chat boards are catching it right now:D

Yeah, recruiting does wonders for the little church school on the corner.

Not another one of those nasty recruiting nonsense posts. Strake players work hard, are disciplined, and are coached well. That is the reason for their success.
