Thanks for the props, guys! We never realize how much work we've done until it's in a finished form. Dang, now I can go to sleep! Hope everyone enjoys the Guide!
PS- Just so everyone knows, the playoff scores for last year haven't been uploaded to the 2000 score history page yet. I'm having trouble working in Word tonight, so I'm going to see if I can get that uploaded tomorrow. Shouldn't be a problem.

Great as usual guys. Wish this was back in paper so I'd have some reading material now that Dave's mag is worthless! Look forward to reading all the write-ups on each district.

Okay, now after reading through much of it, I can now make a little better post. haha. I read through all the featured articles, and I must say, the were written very very nicely. Who ever wrote them shouldn't be running a website, but should be writing for papers. Wait, don't stop the web site, heck with the papers. You guys are very talented. I will read it in and out, thanks again for all the hard work.

Hey Nice job on the Guide thing, Very neat!
There is 1 mistake on the defensive back for T. Cuba that he is a junior, yall forgot to put him a junior (hes not a senior). But yall did right on Adrian Beard that he is a junior. What such a young team we got on our team.

If it weren't for wanting to know about the lower classifications, I wouldn't need to get Dave Campbells rag. Awesome work and thanks for giving 11-5A it's props as a tough district. We didn't really show it last year, so I hope we make you guys proud this year. :)

I think this one is better than last year's, but I have a off the record question. I don't know but I probably know the answer already, but why wasn't our Secondary part of that top 10? Is it because you guys really haven't seen them or what?

Scooter, you guessed right. The Titans will be inexperienced in the secondary around Joseph, so we want to see what they're about. As you can tell on the unit rankings, we obviously went with experience as a top factor. You have to at this stage. I did read the article you posted and it looks promising for your boys.
The unit rankings feature is something I've always seen in college football or NFL preview magazines, and wanted to have in the Gridiron Guide for the last few years. We didn't feel like we had quite the level of information we needed to actually be able to do it until this year.
Actually a good pick up by favpack...Longview should have be in the 7th position (edited it, fine now...beauty of an online mag). I remember what I did last night when I read his post. I was doing last minute tweaking to it, deleted the Lobos, and forgot to put them back on.
Glad yall are enjoying the Guide. Hopefully, the Guide and what we come up with during the summer will be enough to hold us over the next couple of months before practice cranks up again.

Okay, how about another Unit Ranking - Coaches?
Just a preface - I am NOT complaining - just pointing out something interesting. Judson is not in the Top 10 in either Offense or Defense in the overall state unit rankings. Not only that, they don't place even a Top 10 group (OLine, Dline, Backfield, etc.) on the board. Going even further, they don't even have ONE player amongst the best 10 at their respective position in the state. Looking all the way to the Regional analysis page we finally see that Judson does have 3 players on the first team all region list - half of #3 Smithson Valley's total and one less than #22 Clemens' talley. Also, taking a look at the Players to Watch in 2005 page you will see those same 3 All-Region players along with a pair of Dlineman making a total of 5 players out of 645 players listed
....And the Rockets are 9th???

I do not think James Lockett from Manfield Summit is back for the Jags as your pick for 4-5A Defensive POY. I think he graduated and will be playing for Tulsa this year. Please post if I am incorrect.
I like your pick for the Granbury Pirates to go to the playoffs for the first time since 1977.

Well, you could be right on Lockett, but I got that he was back from this link, listing the All-District teams: http://texasprepxtra.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=364697
I'll do some more searching, since you pointed it out. Thanks.

lufkinclassof08 why would a team like judson want to only have 1 state championship like lufkin. i think they prefer there numerous titles over our one. lol and on the baseball state championship in 63. that does not look that impressive unless you realize lufkin has been to state 5th most ever in baseball. the basketball team has been mediocre besides the 79 championship for the most part.

I know, just seeing if we could get some props for the coaching staff or something. :) It's a long off season, and when someone throws their #5 Receiving group or their #3 Linebackers group in my face I can say, yah well we have the 4th best coaching staff in all of 5a, so there! :D

Kt about the Gridiron Guide and 13-A
In your breakdown of this division you dont even mention Harker Heights contending for a spot in the playoffs. In the Knights first year in 5A they finished tied for 4th. This year they have a year of experience in 5A and return Donnie Shorts, all but 3 starters on the D and O line, 2 recievers, 3 very athletic sophmores, and standout Julian Harris.
Heights also beat cedar park who made it to the semis last year i think, the 24th ranked team Consol, put up a fight against cove and waco(who will play in Heights this year)
Why no love for the Knights

Welcome aboard Heightboyz, glad to see a Harker Heights rep on here.
In the guide, a few things i think that should be mentioned about our district. Daniel Dilworth (5'9 160 4.5)from Cedar Park led district 15-5a in interceptions and hes going to be a senior next year, and hes not even one of their players to watch, just thought id throw that out there. Also, there is a chance that Reggie Madu from Pflugerville could be the best defensive player in all of central texas as a junior, at least thats what i saw from him as a sophomore, he was all over the field. But he's been in ALOT of trouble with the law, and was kicked off the basketball team, and may not play football next year. Theres about a 50/50 shot he plays football next year. And thats a shame, because you would see him playing at a d-1 college and being a playmaker, but hes gotta get his mind right. Also, its enough not havint Austin Westlake in the top 25, but dont they have to be a dark horse, they're Westlake lol. Maybe im just a little too worried about this game, because they got no love from anybody, and they have so much talent coming back, and their Westlake.

Wow! A little love from the LL! That's great. It looks like I've got you convinced. Leander is very well coached and has great athletes, but I got a feeling Westlake has something special for this coming season. We'll find out soon enough come Week 0.

Shutdown Mcgee.....just like last year huh. You think he is good by himself, you should see him with a healthy Chris Ivory(w/o broken hand). Ivory is an excellent blocker.

I read somewhere that Coach Rodgers felt that last years team was the best talent bunch in the short history of the school, but that last years group had to play the toughest schedule in school history. Thats why their record did'nt look as good as previous years. I haven't heard much talent praise for this year's group of players and the district will be even tougher this year than last. I think Belton, Harker & Shoe will probably be sweeping the basement this year.

PonyExpress pretty much nailed it as far as my opinion is concern. I did the 13-5A write up, and felt like Harker Heights was stronger all-around going into last season than they are this year. However, nothing is guaranteed until we start playing games as usual.
At the top, Cove should definitely be the favorites with what they have back and could get a challenge from A&M Consolidated. Consolidated was very young last year, and should field a better team.

KT, why are there only 5 fullbacks on the top ten by positon page and shouldn't Laderrick Handy from Trinity be on that list.
KT2000
07-10-2005, 10:16 PM
Well, we don't have as many listed fullbacks as the other positions, but I do plan to fill that out. We actually counted Handy as a tailback, so I can fix that. We mentioned Handy as being a top player for Trinity in our preview.
