Lufkin has Hays Cons. and Westfield has Northshore. Try picking and upset there.

I believe that Westfield is suspect this year and NS can take them. Should be a great game just the same.

You would not call Buda Hays Consolidated?? beating a known 5a power that is #3 in the state an upset?? What exactly qualifies as an upset in your book?? And even though NS and Westfield are top 5 type teams i still think it would be an upset if NS wins after the beating Westfield put on them last year considering westfield has most of that same team back.

NS and SW, two undefeateds going at it? I don't see how this can be an upset either way?

The North Shore vs. Westfield matchup is a pick'em game. So it definitely wouldn't be an upset either way. Even considering last years game.

I agree and although I think Westfield will win, I wouldn't call a loss to a very good Northshore team an upset. How could it be an upset when most believe the winner of this one to win state?

I agree that the Hays/Lufkin game would be an upset, but it would'nt be HUGE, we're also ranked and 10-1, it's not like were some horrible team that it would take a miracle to beat lufkin. We just don't have the respect earned that Lufkin has been able to build over the past couple of years.

is hays a normal playoff team?? Have they ever went deep?? Are they a new 5a team?? I am not being sarcastic i honestly know nothing about them?? I was the same way with HH. It is always interesting and fun playing teams for the first time.

This poll needs something, yea, like more selections would help. Also, to the Hays guy, Lufkin has had a good program under John Outlaw for more than just a couple of years, more like 8 or 9 years, the good teams and playoff runs started with the 1998 team.

As far as returning players goes both team have returning virtually the same. So that kind of cancels out them having an advantage in that area. And another thing i think people seem to have overlooked is that there are quiet a few player on this North Shore squad tht were also apart of the 03' Muistang team. So as far as who has the experience edge that kind of 50/50 if you ask me. Either way it is definitely going to be one heck of game. And many are sayign I think the winner is whoever gets the big MO and doesn'tl et it go. When you put two fo the states best offenses on the field with two of the states best defenses something there will definitely be some fireworks.

This is our 3rd straight year in the playoffs, lost in the first round last year to Cedar Park and lost in the 2nd round 2 years ago. I beleive we got moved up to 5A before the 2000 season. We were a strong power in 4A winning district championships and losing the 4A state title game to Grapevine in 1996. After that we had our typical struggles in the first few years of 5A. My freshman year we were 5-5, soph 9-3, junior 8-3 and this year 10-1. However we'll probably be moved back down to 4A next year since we opened up a new High School last year. We are still a very good football team and I wouldn't say that us beating Lufkin would be that big of an upset because both teams are very good. We'll find out how good we are on saturday.

Oh yeah, we've only had 1 coach since the school opened in 1968, Bob Shelton who is #12 on the all-time coaching victories list. I think he has around 280 or so victories.

Ty for the info!! Lufkin beat Cedar Park last year 24-7 in the regional finals but that does not mean much when you are talking this year. Lufkin has about 11 returning starters from last year's squad and that is mostly on defense where they have 8 returning starters. Hays did not have Waters last year correct?? Should be a very interesting game. I would think that most would say this game would be an upset if Hays happened to win though. Lufkin is a known 5a power that goes very deep in the playoffs on a yearly basis and Lufkin is usually in the top 5 and many times #1. Hays is still fairly new to 5a and has not ever been deep in the 5a playoffs. It would be a pretty decent upset in my opinion.

That makes me think it will be a bigger upset if both teams have a lot of returning starters when considering last year's results. Just my opinion. This game is at NS though correct?? That makes a big difference.

Yes, historicly Hays beating Lufkin would be a really big upset, but this is the best Hays team we've had in a good while, so for THIS years Hays to beat THIS years Lufkin wouldn't surprise at all.

I guess my definition is different than yours. If the Pack had lost to 6-4 H. Heights I would say that's an upset. Hays is a strong team. I think LP wins if they play like they're capable, but a loss to 10-1 Hays wouldn't be a monumental upset in my book. If your basing this on the recent history of the two teams, than yes it would be a shocker, but this is 2005.....a new year, a new game, 11-0 vs. 10-1.

If you say so?? You have a right to your opinion and i completely disagree. I know that this Lufkin team is just as talented or more as any of the other powerful Lufkin teams of the past 8 years. By the way, I did not say it would monumental upset but it would definitely be an upset if it happened, and it looks like the vast majority agree with me including the Hays fan's like most have said. Either way who really cares?? LOL I am just ready for Saturday. I always hate the pre week talk because it drags out and we all talk about pointless stuff. I mean we just had a 100 page band thread. 15 minutes south of Austin, straight down I-35. Hays Consolidated is a consolidation of Buda and Kyle, about 7 miles apart. The new Cabela's superstore just opened here, so that's about the biggest thing Buda has ever seen. :D

Hmmmmmm. Only two choices. I would have to go with Lufkin losing as being the upset. I don't think NS beating Westfield would be an upset. I think NS is a little bit better than Westfield. We'll see what happens this weekend.

I think lufkin will win this game. Their Defence is amazing. The way LPs players swarm to the ball is amazing. With great athleticism, and how smart their players are, i say contain westfields RB and get the job done.
The way LPs jump routes and the way they are always in the best position to make a play is amazing. The demeanor of this team is unbelievable, the way they do thing reminds you of college team. I was amazed to see a group of kids who are always trying to get a strip and always playing agressive.
I think Westfield need to throw the fade more. I dont see anyone covering Dez Bryant if he has one-on-one coverage. #5 needs to throw the fade at least 5 times to this guy. This guy is real impressive, if he has the ball in his hands he WILL make plays. If he touches the ball 7-10 timesand westfields RB is held to 80-100 yards,I guarantee lufkin wins big.
