This is a quote from the newspaper:
"He's just really comfortable doing what he's doing," Evangel coach John Bachman said. "At the start, they dropped 11 and didn't rush anybody. Dez, being the experienced quarterback he is, just relaxed and let his guys work until they got open. Then they played pitch and catch, backyard football."

They dropped 11? WTH is that? I've never heard of a team doing anything remotely like that. I was listening to the game Friday nite via the internet and heard the radio guys talking about it. I thought maybe they were b-s'ing a little bit or something.

how are you gonna NOT send anybody to pressure the QB? That makes no sense.

Here's the link for the story:

Disclaimer: I am fully aware that this has nothing to do with football in Texas. I am also aware that the teams in question are 2A teams. The point was that I've never heard of this and wonder if anyone else here has.

I would run everyone to the endzone then run the flyling duck against them.

I guess the thing about it was that ECA (the passing team) was going to win this game no matter what. really, there was no question about that in anyones mind. I just had never heard of that kind of stuff before.

I found it interesting that ECA never ran the ball unless more than 2 came after the QB. They were working it like a practice.

I've seen them toss out some crazy offenses before. But I've never seen anyone toss a crazy D like that. I hate that I couldnt be there to witness it. Ima try to get the game footage when I'm in Shreveport next.

I guess NorthCaddo (the losing team in the story) figured why the hell not. They knew they were going to lose, I guess they figured they'd try to shut down the pass as much as they could.
They've been in district with ECA before (2A and 3A) and have always been super sports about the games and the outcome. One year in 3A we played them at their house and it was 40+ to 0 in the first quarter. All the ECA fans were cheering for them when they had the ball or stopped our O. It was great. After the game a lot of us met up with a lot of their people to eat and hang out. It was really good times..

Carl Torbush's legend at A&M was born when in a game vs Tech, he played one down lineman and dropped 10 back into coverage. He had 8 DBs and 2 LBs back in coverage and Tech still completed a long pass.

Great story but you got 1 team wrong. It was when A&M was playing the Houston Cougars back during the days of the Run & Shoot

Torbush wasn't coaching at A&M back then. A&M may have done it against Cougar High, but the instance I'm talking about came in '04 if I remember right.

Correct....it was the Coogs. I even talked to Andre Ware(Heisman winning QB from UofH for those who don't know about it. The conversation came up when we were talking about defending against the spread and I said "They can just use the defense A&M used against you"

He replied "Ahhhhhhh the good ol 1-5-5 Defense" and laughed.

That was it. I remember the meltdown on Texags after the pass was completed. I think Torbush lost his job because of that one play.
