Belton seems to be coming together as a team, their offense can put a lot of points on the board. Their defense does not appear to be in the same league as their offense. This game will test the Cove's DBs more than the three previous district opponents. Still I think Cove will continue their winning ways, probably by four touchdowns. But a good game to play to see a different style of opponent and renew some friendships between the head coaches on both teams.

I really don't think I'll enjoy this game. I'll Probably go watch the Shoemaker/A&M in Killeen. That might me a better game. Maybe I'll see the Dawgs varsity coaches there. The way I see it, there's only one more good game left for Cove in district. Can't wait till playoffs! Get'r done.

This game will come down to whether or not Cove can put a big rush on the Belton QB and whether or not the Cove secondary can not give up a couple of bombs.
I don't give Belton's D much of a chance of stopping Cove. They'll have to keep Cove's O off the field if they want to win.

My only question is this. Does the fact that Cove has now faced and beat two "good" (everyone said that Temple was good, just didn't win because the played 'good' teams, you know) teams finally mean that someone outside our district (other than the AP voters) will finally acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, Cove has a good football team this year?
:)

As a Dawg fan, every time Cove takes the field it is a good game. Every game is important and the Dawgs need to see the support for their efforts every time they take the field. Get TUIT!

Belton's offense may be looking sharp, but they have faced a defense like Cove yet? Probably not. Cove walks 48-12.

Chris Miller 7 INTs in 6 games
i believe Rashad Hardy has 4
and Tanner Brock has 1
We have the total package for defense both run and pass defense.

Cove should tear up Belton but due to the respect of the coaches i think Cove will do enough to get the win by about 20 and call it done.
Belton may have a good offense but Cove has an outstanding Defense. The offense can get it done too but the Defense will stop Belton just like it has every team so far.

Wow...just thinking about the days when I was a Belton Tiger. Cove was a doormat and Belton was a power. Now the shoe is on the preverbial other foot.

Really looking forward to this game. Belton will give Cove the opportunity to see how they perform against a passing team. Thus far the Dawgs have faced primarily running teams. The DBs and DL have done extremely well when teams have to pass due to being down many points, now we can see how they step up when a team passes to set up the run. I can see the DL putting pressure on the Belton QB and getting 4-5 sacks, and the DBs picking off 3-4 passes. But again the game is played on the field not on this web site or the bleachers, Get TUIT! Dawgs by 4TDs!

This will be Jacks first game against Rodney Southern since he left Cove about 7 years ago. I would personally like to see Cove play Pfl. Connally as well since Coach Macmahon is the AD there now

Belton's problem this year has been defense. Their offense more recently have been able to put points on the board to win but the defense has not improved enough to get them over the hump.
To win, Belton can not throw interceptions, period. That simply puts the ball into Cove's hands and Belton's defense historically have proven that they will not be able to stop Cove's offense.
Belton's offense will offer Cove's defense some unique challenges in that Belton relies on the pass. Cove will have to pressure Ash to make poor passes.
Cove better not underestimate Belton. I think it is difficult for Cove's coaching staff to keep the boys focused in games where they may be heavily favored. True, this district is weak this year, but this is a home game for Belton and Cove has a big bullseye on its chest.

I really doubt if Coach Welch and his staff will have any trouble keeping the Dawg's focused on this week's game. These guy know that on any given night any team has the potential to win a game. This Dawg team seems to have the right mix of Abiltiy and Attitude to continue to develop into one of the finest teams in Cove's history. But this week's game will give them a great opportunity to sharpen different parts of their game. Its Wed but Friday is coming, Get TUIT!

You obviously only read the line scores and dont go to the games, because with the exception from last week the defense has not given up all the points on the board.
The offense is clicking very well, and the team is much better than their record shows. Should be 3-3, got learn how to finish a ball game. This program is turning for the better on both sides of the ball. Give them a little more time and that record will turn.

Belton's Soph QB Ash will get to meet Tanner Brock this Friday, I'm not sure he is going to like the meeting.
I saw Belton against Ennis & Harker Heights. In the Heights game, Belton's LB Voss, supposedly a player to watch, missed easy tackles in backfield that turned into two long TD runs that changed the game. Belton's defense is their main problem area, poorest tackling I've seen in the district. Ash is coming along as a QB, but telegraphs his passes, has not learned to check down to 2nd or 3rd receivers. This showed late in game against Heights, last few plays the two receivers on his right loafed their routes, apparently they knew the play was going to the other side.
Belton's best chance to score will be in the 1st quarter, seems opponents can drive on Cove the 1st & 2nd series, the Def makes adjustments and it' over after that. 2nd half, forget about it........

They did not make the plays, that is for sure and I am not saying who is going to win or lose, but I promise you that it is not all defense that is not making plays. Anyway, enough nonsense, good luck this week.

You are right nbalum, I looked at the line scores for trends and key games.
Are you saying (but not saying is) that the Belton's offense has given up a lot of points in turnovers?

I am glad Belton's team is comming along since thier coach is a former DAWGS coach. I believe Cove is a bit more dominate all around this year for Belton to handle. The passing game for Belton......all i can say is bring it but you will pay for sure when you get picked off and those are returned for Cove TD's.
I sure hope my truck don't get keyed this year in Belton like it did the last time we played there back when that punky kid played in Belton. I think his name was taylor or something like that. Anyone know what he is up too now?

Ramonce Taylor is captain of a local football team in Belton these days. Yes he was once the star back for Belton, played in National Championship game for Texas and had a bright future possibly in the NFL, then he got a large case of himself. He now captains a Flag Football team in Belton........

Belton pulled out all of the gaget plays and opened up the field with receivers everywhere in the 3rd and 4th qtrs. Cove gave up many yards and points that did not affect the outcome of the game but the Tigers earned some respect for their offensive play. Belton will be a force next year with a young team getting maturity and experience. Cove was without their two top rushers in tonight game but their backups did a great job. Next week game with Shoemaker looks like a barnburner since the Wolves beat AM. Get TUIT!

Chris Miller continues to be a beast on defense. 9 INT's in 7 games. Cove needs to watch out for Shoemaker, could be a trap game because Shoemaker has the athletes to run with Cove

Agreed about Miller and Shoemaker, but I dont think the Wolves willl be a trap, the Dawgs will be ready and the Wolves will be a great challenge. They have speed and a potent offense of run and pass. The Dawgs pass defense needs to step up (Belton showed Cove that in second half) but I think the run defense will be able to contain their runners in spite of their speed. I think Coach Welch made a good decision to allow Byrd and Wright get some more time to heal completely from Bryan game and not play them last night. Although this thread is about Belton-Cove, the game is over and now the focus has to be Shoemaker. Its Saturday but Friday is coming, Get TUIT.

I read in the paper that Cove had six starters out? I know Mackey and their two backs were out, but who else didn't play?
The second team came in the last 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter. Belton has some good athletes and as their progrm matures, they will defininately be contenders next year. Unlike most teams I have seen this year, Belton played all four quarters. Belton actually had more yards offense that Cove in this one. Ash is quick on his feet and has some real good football savy.

Belton's QB is a soph also. He could be a force for Belton next season, things might be looking up for the Tigers
