Morton Ranch had a great first half but, in typical fashion, Joseph just knows how to make all the adjustments needed at the half. It's hard to come back on them if they go in ahead at the half...they are a great second half team and MR just sort of imploded as well.

MR will win a couple more games I predict - they should beat Katy Taylor and 7 Lakes (again) and they should get a playoff spot....Hope I'm right because it was so nice to see so much excitement on the MR side...I'd like that to continue!

Katy looked very good tonight. I only counted two turnovers, one at the end of the half and one fumble. The running backs looked good. LT jeffery looked very good on his run as he outran all the defenders.I'm guessing around 300 yards rushing. I liked how we came out and played "katy" football. Idk about the passing game, the deep ball was never astablished.

Overall it was a great atmosphere for high school football.

44-14 and 32 unanswered points.
Joe Michell and Michael Venson were very quick and athletic.
Very pleased with the overall performance.

We will see in 2009. It's good to hope. This game was won up front. I think we threw maybe 5 passes. Those backs are sophomores. The Mavs never had a chance. No depth. The second half was all K Train!

The QB and RB tandem that MR has reminds me of Pearlands Proctor and Whitaker. Very athletic and deceptive runners. They seem hard to get a hand on and hard to tackle. Morton Ranch is a good team and will win some games the rest of the way. Morton Ranch vs Cinco Ranch will be an entertaining game to watch.

Having seen all the Tiger's games this year I thought Morton Ranch was the second best team we have seen. It was easy to see why they were 5-0. Lots of good athletes. It was a real game for a half. Coming off of a 1-19 start that is really impressive.

Congratulations to the Tigers - The O-line is really starting to roll. Every week I am seeing improvement in the team. Keep that up and this team might make some noise by the end of the season.

It was a great crowd turnout tonight.. on both sides, very disappointing for the mavs I am sure to see them all leaving in the fourth though. This team came in with a 5-0 record, fans need to stay and support win loose or draw...

Just came back from the game. It was a great game, and wonderful to see that Katy dominate MR completely. For some reason, it seems like MR's style has changed from the last year - they played much cleaner and I respected them more - but not this year.

Katy sure has a tradition and I could feel it. All the people around us were so friendly, and neat to see grandpa & grandma lined up in a wheel chair cheering Katy. It was so nice.

ANALYSIS TIME :D

well just got back. the first half was as good as adveritsed. katys running game was dominant and the morton ranch offense continued to make plays like they always do. towards the end of the half you could see the wheels coming off. it was clear that katy was the more discipline team of the two and it payed off in the end. Katy was the better team, but i would love to see these two go at it again.

Now on to my rants and raves. THESE REFS WERE GOD FREAKING AWFUL!
Katy analysis:
All three of the Katy backs are hosses.
The O-line is good. very good!
Ray needs to work on accuracy on the deep ball he had brandt a few times. if he does well then the 1 7 5 is screwed
Defense is solid. they played well of course venson and mitchell made their plays but they do that. overall katy held them in check.
Overall this Katy team is good. they will get batter each week like they do every year.
I think cinco can take yall. but no one else in the district will touch these guys.
Oh and the onside kick = pure genious. The katy kicker is excellent

Morton Analysis:
First off i am so proud of these guys. i really thought they would lay down after falling behind 9-0 these guys fought back. There is no quit in this team. DO NOT HANG YOUR HEADS.
Offensively venson and mitchell did what they do...which is be raw.
The passing game was effectively taken out when mitchell appeared to hurt his ankle. The reason all the throws were short was because he couldnt step into them.
Nashon Davis is freakishly fast :D
Defensively they stepped up a few times but overall depth was an issue and katy wore them down.
Secondary got burned although davis made a nice play before the end of the half and jumped the route.

It was just amazing though. This team and school is so different. Guys its just one loss keep on coming and supporting this team. Keep being loud and cheering them on.

and finally. to all the morton alumni who came back im glad you did but there were a couple of players from last year who just came back and talked trash about these kids. screw you and i hope you dont comeback. if you cant be happy for these guys well then i am embarrassed to say i graduated with you. it just pissed me off to see such jealousy and to see them cheer for Katy yall can all go to :Censor: :mad:These young men have worked so hard and overcome such great adversity.

Morton Ranch's speed gave Katy problems. Venson reminds me of The Woodlands' running back Daniel Lasco. Same style back.

Mitchell is very good with the ball in his hand, and also appears to have a great arm. On the short and mid-range stuff, he didn't get his legs under him and short armed a bunch of passes. This is his first year at the position, and that kind of thing takes time to develop.

The MR kick returners were very dangerous. The blockers were opening up huge holes in Katy's pursuit. Katy was lucky a couple of those didn't go the distance. Davis has very good speed.

Defense is the problem for Morton this year. I think the offense has the athletes to match up with anyone, but the Mavs were extremely vulnerable in the front seven. I know a team is in trouble when Katy opens the game with 5 and 10+ yard runs.

Morton Ranch should make the playoffs. I think they are good enough to get in as the third placed team after Katy and Cinco. I have Morton and Creek as the last two playoff teams.

Good post. I'm not as knowledgeable as some of the others, but I'll give it a shot. What impressed me in the first half was your blocking. People were doing their jobs. Our D had to fight to get to the runner. And when they did, he was very elusive. In the second it was like the Tigers came out on fire, and were clicking on all cylinders. After seeing you guys play SL I could tell you guys would give us a good game, and you did. I hope this is a sign that our district is growing stronger. Good luck next week against CR. I look forward to seeing how you guys fare against their balanced play. That will probably be the next toughest game for all.

Last year, MR kids played like a high school kid, and never gave up. I liked and respected the sportsmahship.

This year, it look like they were playing unnecessary rougher. 3 Katy kids got hurt in the first half while MR kids got none hurt. When the tide changed and became Katy's game especially after the half time, seems like their spirit was gone. Then MR's new coach kept arguing the ref (sorry I needed to bring it up again), and one time he start kicking things and throwing stuff in the field. The coach is the leader who kids look up and follow, and he was showing a bad example of how to behave in a stressful situation.

Katy can adjust their play in a various way as supported by a long history of being a 5A football team. Katy kids are huge - their O are larger than MR's D. After MR learn more methonds and how to pass & catch, they will go higher.

I never saw anything dirty in the way MR was playing. Injuries are part of the game and Webber and Jeffries both took some pretty good shots and went off the field last week too. That may have just been a case of them not quite being 100% and re-aggrivating something. As far as what was happening on the sideline, you are right. I definately think the coach needs to set the example. Any team that has a coach that gets upset and gets ugly with the refs needs to get rid of them right..........uh, nevermind.

Congrats to Morton Ranch on going 5-0 to start the season. I was glad to see a KISD school give katy a scare for a while again. Then I was glad to see Katy pull away in the second half.

Right now it looks like they have the skill players (offense) in place, but the Line needs a little work. Normally Katy only gets 1 or 2 yards a play in the 1st QTR I think last night they were getting 5 to 10.

idk what you saw tonight but the team i saw didnt quit. they kept playing hard. perfect example was the venson kickoff return in the 4th, what an effort. the kids getting hurt was because MR was bringing the wood and popping them. they werent playing dirty, and im glad svendsen did what he did he had a right to be pissed and im glad he was fighting for his kids! it did get a little chippy at moments but it was a highly emotional game for both teams so its expected. again congrats to Katy.

First of all, good to see Morton Ranch posters here. Get excited about your team. Great offense and special team play. I agree with KT2000, I think the MR offense can play with anyone. As I said in an earlier post; it appears that 17-5A is the best district top to bottom in Region 3; there are no bad teams in the district. Somebody has to finish first and somebody has to finish last, that is the way things work.

Looking forward to seeing Cinco and Taylor.

It was much more of a tense game that I cared to have... Until the second half... I know I'll be pulling for MR for the rest of the season... I like how the team north of I-10 are starting to come along... It was nice to see so many MR fans in the stands... Good effort all around...

This was what you call good smash mouth football. It was good to see our MR boys get fired up like that. We haven't had that in the past. Those kids really gave it their all and so did Katy. It was a great game all around and I congratulate Katy on their win. It was so good to see MR fans come out to support the team, I just wish they would learn to stay until the end.

As far as our coach arguing with the ref, we have never had that either. It was good to see him standing up for the boys. I know of another coach that has been known to let off some steam on the refs like that too.:D
