Up next for the defending champs are the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays are real tough at home. I don't think Boston beat the Rays at Tropicana Field.

Then again...the Angels were not supposed to lose in the first round either.

I like both LCS matchups.

Boston vs. Tampa Bay
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia

Anybody got their picks for the World Series?

I'll say...Boston vs. Philadelphia.

Rays and Phillies in the WS. Rays win it in 5. They'll let the Phils edge out a win at home in game 3 so they can win the series in front of the home crowd in Tampa.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Florida gets another series win? The state that cares less about baseball would have three titles - 2 for the Fish; 1 for the Rays.

I must be mistaken but I was under the assumption that this was the first year since 1995 that the Yankees didn't make the playoffs.

Since leaving town, DD gets confused easily, as the Yankees have obviously made the playoffs more than once or twice in recent years. However, the 21st century versions of the Yankees have not seen the big series win - ever. :( Just the opposite of the 20th century red sux whom you could not give a world series to for the better part of eight decades.

The Yankees last won the series in 2000. They have, regretably, not won since then. But you are correct in that the Yanks did play in two this century, so I went back and clarified the lack of a winning appearance.

what have you done for me lately? the good dr is right about the 21st century, which began in 2001. and you are all right, the skunks have been playing golf for a couple of weeks now, but with their payroll, how could anyone expect better than third out of them.

As Lehman Bros. has painfully shown us, as well as its congressional buddies, large payrolls don't necessarily translate into success. Despite having what most of us would consider a bad year, the Yankees third place finish in the AL East would have won other divisions this season.
