I'd pick Houston Jeff Davis... I think they have the longest losing streak in the state...

Interesting topic, as a Lufkin fan and approaching this subject as teams who are still alive in the playoffs. I would like to see Smithson Valley win it if Lufkin couldn't. They are well coached and play with heart. Good schemes on both sides of the ball really don't get the credit they deserve at times. Approaching it from teams that are gone, I would have liked for Longview to get one!

They'd deserve it.

Lufkin, after dealing with slc, getting in their way, id like to see thme win (if we dont make it that far of course), the lufkin fans are also very respectful and knowledgeable(sp)

I would have to say that I think that Westfield is the team that would win a championship, but they have a really hard test in front of them in North Shore. Because of this, I think that Katy, with Carroll out of it, will win the championship

I really meant who would you WANT to win if your team couldn't, not who you think WILL win if your team doesn't... Like a sentimental choice... I can't believe North Shore or Katy is anyone's SENTIMENTAL choice... :)

oh my sentimental pick is already out (Denton Ryan). I guess if they can't win and my team can't win I would have to go with Lufkin.

I have a few choices. Amarillo, since I'm a Panhandle guy (Conceived there, but not born there. I cherish the legacy that my dad wanted to reject.)
Madison and the other guys in 26-5A. I can't say Longview because I've rooted for them for so long.
Midland because of 2002.
El Paso and The Valley. Hey, those boys get killed.
Hurst Bell since I had cousins go there and my uncle lived in Hurst.
Cove and Waco since they've beaten Judson recently.
Port Arthur and Victoria Memorial for Scooter! and RedRage00.
Them boys from Seguin and pretty much any R4 school.

Katy fan, but Southlake has to be the clear favorite, and I watched Westfield last week, and if they play to their potential, it will be hard for NS to win. I know it sounds a little simplistic to pick the 1 and 2 teams to win but I would have to take Westfield and SLC
Smithson Valley - Class program that has been so close before. Of course, I really don't want them to win because they would have to go through Katy (barring huge upset) to do it.

If I can't pick my Carter Cowboys....I'd have to go with Garland, because Garland has been looked over and not mentioned in state championship discussions as well as Carter. I knew when these two played before that both had what it took to go far. If Garland looks good we look good and vise-versa. Good Luck Owls. Hoot! Hoot! :D

Smithson Valley. After repeatedly getting owned by LaMarque when they were in 4A (or was it CC Calallen they could never beat?), they deserve a title. Plus my college roommate is a coach there.

This year I'd pick Garland. For a few reasons... 1. ThegReAtOnE had Northshore's back against those Pearland posters. 2. Garland has a long tradition of good football. (I think they beat Galena Park in 62 for state.)
3. I have a deal with you guys about rooting for you, if you pull for NS.
4.I want you guys to beat Cove and SLC. If you make to the finals I will pull for you even though I am loyal to region three teams. Sorry Katy.

WHY?........."with Carroll out of it". They were in our way once before and we came away with the trophy. We only want to play the best. If Carroll is not the best this year, we will take care of the rest.

I said that because I could not pick Carroll. Just because a team beats you two years ago, it does not mean that they will beat you the next two years

I would like to see Permian back up there. After the Friday Night Lights movie, I now look for their score. I would like to see a game at Ratcliff with a successfull Permian team playing. I am sure the atmosphere would be great. How about old dynasty vs new dynasty : Permian vs SLC

Don't quote me on this, but I think SV got beat by LaMarque when they were in 5A, and they lost to CC Calallen when they were still 4A. They may have lost twice to CC Calallen, but I'm not sure.
It would be great to see SV win. I've also always respected Katy. They are well coached and have a history of great football teams.

I've got 3, Arlington Lamar, Abilene Cooper and Euless Trinity. Since the first two are not in the playoffs, I guess I will go with Trinity. Those 3 programs along with Aldine Eisenhower are the best programs to never win a state title. All these programs have come close in years past only to have been heart broken. I would like to see Trinity win one this year and the Vikes and Cougars to win one in coming years.
I also want to see the Liberty Christian Warriors win one as well.

I have been to Ratliff to see Plano 3 times.
1. Midland Lee Semifinal's 1983 a Plano loss 33-14.
2. Permian Semifinal 1987 A Plano win 29-21 on their way to back to back state championship and national championship
3. Permian Semifinal 1994 Plano win 10-0
I would have to say of the 3 games MIdland bought more fans and excitment to Ratliff than Mojo did. Plano only had 6,000 travel for the game and we got 1/2 the vistor side. The other half and all the home side was all Lee and those damn Rebel Flags. D
Do remember a cool sign posted on a telephone pole going into the stadium parking lot in 1983. IT said "MOJO for Plano" :)

I know. I am all about Plano though. If I had to choose any 5A team in the state I would like to see a Border team like Harlingen or Mcallen or an El Paso team like Hanks.
Those regions haven't won anything since the Donna Redskins in 1961. That almost doesn't count since its not on the border.

Lufkin or Abilene if no SV. All three had great games with the champ last year, and all three were capable to beating them. Between the two, I cant choose. Neither one deserved to be knocked out, but based on this years teams, I guess I would think Lufkin would have to be my pick. In D1 for sure Spring Westfield.

can you or someone elaborate on this post?
Creek started the year with a loss to 4A friendswood and extended a 20 game losing streak until they overcame the odds and beat Alvin, Lake and Brazoswood. They snuck into the playoffs with a 3-7 record and just beat Deer Park 21-20 to advance to the 2nd round for the first time since 62.
When Creek played Kingwood, the Kingwood guys had this one player who had cancer and couldn't play. The Creek guys learned of this and took upon themselves without promting from their coaches or parents to raise money for the kid. They gave about $200 i think to the Kingwood guys after the game. They are already champions but I hope they overcome the million to one odds and become state champions.
