View Full Version : Who would have thought? FB Kempner

Yes they were ranked (area) early, but they played sloppy all season. Now with 1 more win against CyFair, they could be playing for the D1 R3 championship. I don't know if that speaks volumes for their program or speaks poorly for the UIL and their system of playoffs. FB Marshall spanked these guys in the last game of the regular season and Marshall is 1 and done in D2.

They will probably lose to Cy Fair. I am torn on who to root for because I know kids that played baseball for both Kempner and Cy Fair. Cy Fair had a better record and played in a tougher district.

I wish we could have have played Div. 1, the way we beat FB Kempner like step-children... we could be practicing rite now instead of putting up the pads... anyway, someone explain how this whole split Division thing works????
because i dont get it, how does the third place team get an easier road than both us and Clements, we got a game against Strake, and CLements had to take on the Big Red Machine.... doesn't make any sense...

The top 3 teams from each district make the playoffs. It does not matter if they came in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Of the top 3 the schools, the one with the largest enrollment goes D1, the other 2 go D2. Thats why if FB Austin would have beat FB Clements in the last game of the regular season, FB Austin would have gone D1, and FB Kempner and FB Marshall would have gone D2. You can look at the Team Standings on this Site. They have the enrollments ranked in ( ).

If you can't beat Strake, what makes you think you could beat Cy Fair? or Westfield or Northshore? There is but one goal and no road is easy.

Agreed. I believe Cy-Falls will beat Strake this weekend. I may be showing my bias since I am a 17-5A guy but that is just the way I see it.

This wasn't about Marshall it was about Kempner. I didn't think any 205a team had a legit. shot at playing for the Region 3 title in either division. Marshall all along was going D2 regardless. Both Strake and Katy beat Hastings. If 195a would have played their make up games, Cinco would have beat Kempner and all of 195a would still be playing. But bringing up the past and debating what ifs is useless. Marshall was going D2 no matter what and their season ended right where it was supposed to. Marshall is a better team than Kempner. The question I was trying to ask "Is the UIL playoff system fair?" I think it is for the most part. Some would debate other wise.
I would rather have it than the bowl system at the college level.

Oline guy,
Please - Kempner's coaches knew that the game versus Marshall meant nothing. How long did their tailback or other starters stay in the game. Face it, Kempner had nothing to play for. They already knew who they were playing in the playoffs and they had just played two games in 4 days(Marshalls game was cancelled). Either way, sour grapes - Kempner is still playing and you are sitting at home. And yes, Kempner would have beat Strake, just like they beat Cinco Ranch in 2004 and Elsik in 2003.
And I would call beating someone like step children would be 53-16 - You do remember that don't you?????

why yes, i remember it clearly... the sour end to the 3-7 season of "last year" do you have some type of grudge against us since we had mercy on you and took out are starters after the half, i mean we scored 21 points in the 1st quarter, your coach took out some starters before we could hurt the rest of them,... you know all the "trash talking" ya'll did before the game and in pregame when we came out, we didn't even say nothing at first, until ya'll chanted, "Is Marshall Ready??? - HELL Naw!!!!" oh yeah, ya'll are so classy  , and what type of coach goes into a game with a "planning to lose" game-plan, come on give ya'll coach better credit than that, you're speaking as if he and the rest of the team were cowards... and for the record "we're siting at home" because we played a team alot more worthy than Hastings(no offense) or the likes Kempner... lol, come on now, Kempner didn't even play with any down D-Lineman, against us... thanks for respecting our O-line so much that ya'll didn't want to risk adding more "pancake blocks" to our higlight films... P.S. Coach B. had Kempner read like a book,... being up 28-0 at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, and having the class that he has, saw no reason to keep his starters in and run up the score (like Kempner did to us last year)... Instead he played every reserve player that we had on our team and gave some of our senior reserves a chance to play and gather up some highschool football memories... thats who i look up to... and thats who i represent... sir, now politely write a response, because i know you will...
and oh yes, i actually would like to wish FB Kempner Good luck this week-end on their 2nd round play-off game, hope all goes well for them, represent for 20-5A

and my whole question was how does the split thing work, since i really didn't understand, i thought just the favorite team of the district went Div. 1, didn't know it was based on enrollment, which that clears alot of things up for me now...
