Well... I said we would win... I just wanna say thanks to Coach Koch for not running up the score (even though I was on the winning end - I think he deserves some respect for what he did)... When we had the ball inside the 10 with about 2 minutes left he did a QB sneak up the middle on 3rd down, followed by a QB kneel on 4th down... Also putting in lower string players to get their playtime on varsity in this rivalry game...
Daniel Neumann with 2 TD catches (and a lot of just catches) and 2 massive kickoff returns - 1 of them didnt mean anything in the long run bc it was right before halftime... But he still dominated...
Our defense I think did well... Gave up more yards than I really wanted to see them give up (More than 20 yards allowed ;) - I havent seen the actual yardage count yet)... I was still happy with how they played... That int return for the TD really set the tone for the whole game... At least we never gave up the big play, but there were many 10-15 yard plays (I guess Im just not used to seeing that...)
How about our passing ability... And then we can switch in an instant to the time consuming 80 yard 10 minute drive...
Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th successful PATs of the season in this game
All in all a great win... My new projections for district
Strake Jesuit (unless they slip up... Which they could do - I dont think they are invincible)
Memorial
Alief Elsik*
Stratford* (I could see them finishing either way)
Alief Taylor (maybe could beat Elsik)
Alief Hastings
Spring Woods
Northbrook
That would mean we go 1st seed D-I in the playoffs... The good news (assuming thats the finishing order and Katy district finishes in a predictable fashion) is that we probably wont play Katy or Cinco in the first round... My projections would have Stratford playing Katy and Elsik playing Cinco...
Its still early and a lot can happen but thats how I see it through 2 district games...
Northbrook / Homecoming next week

Congrats on a great effort and a big win. Memorial whipped us pretty much in all phases of the game. Just when it looked like we might get back in the game, Memorial's big O-line asserted itself to control the clock and salt away the win.
I agree, Coach Koch showed a lot of class late in the game. No surprise there. He had his guys ready to play from the beginning, as always. He's got our number.
Good luck the rest of the way. I'm sure we will regroup and do our best to knock off Strake for you.

Congrats. to Memorial on their win! It was a pretty good game. Stratford didn't seem to play with a sense of urgency once they got behind. I'd thought they would've tried to get Anderson out in space a little more. I was also a little surprised when they brought Jackie Simmons in to punt when they were buried deep in their on territory.........He was practically punting from the one..
I was wondering when Memorial was going to play the new recruit from St. Pius X. He was a pretty good back at St. Pius as a Soph. and a Junior. Why didn't Koch play him against Strake? Anyway, good game Memorial looked sharp.

I would worry about Hastings, Elsik, Northbrook, and Spring Woods before I started focusing on Strake. I think any of the Alief Schools can give anyone a fit on any night. If you beat Strake and lose those other games..................

I am quite sure the coaches and the kids will take them one at a time, thank you.
I am merely an alum and a fan being gracious to Memorial in defeat. If you think my comment constitutes an obsession with Strake, you are wrong.

Now that was a homecoming - comfortable win, everyone plays at least a few snaps.;)
Obviously, it was easier than expected, but I will say that the effort put forth by MHS was what we'd seen in the North Shore and FB Marshall scrimmages and but for the penalties, the Jersey Village game. The hurrication got them out of sync, and played a part in last week's loss, but last night was a step in the right direction. FWIW, no 4 was on jv last year and no 24 is the SPX transfer. Word was he didn't play vs. Strake because he missed some practices post Ike while still out of town. He played most of 4th Q vs Jersey Village and looked good.
Good luck to the Spartans the rest of the way. Lots of friends over there.

Ah I heard from someone #24 was a Sophmore... Hes pretty solid... Adding more depth at RB...
I noticed that #2 is now playin Safety... He ran for 5 yards a carry as a Sophmore last year... I guess he never got his fumble problem worked out... Or we just decided we needed to make preparations for the loss of #21

Oh not at all, no offense was taking. Sorry if it came across that way. I'm just happy to have a 18-5a thread going.

No offense taken. But I can be cranky after losing to Memorial. Sorry about that.
I'm glad for the interest in this district as well. I haven't seen Strake play yet but I'm sure you'll make for a fitting regular season finale and a budding neighborhood rivalry (just being neighborly, not to suggest that anyone is looking past anyone else in 18-5A). ;)

That name was so familiar. Had to pull out the old yearbooks. Was he on the ‘78 team? That was such a fun year!

Please let me introduce myself. I graduated from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.5atexasfootball.com/forum/vB/ /><st1:City w:st=</st1:City>Stratford and my other half from Memorial, so one of us is very happy with the results of that game. Congrats Memorial. Good luck to Memorial and Stratford.
Our son is in the Flower Mound program and district play starts this week. Nothing beats Texas High School Football!

Welcome aboard. Gary Koch was an assistant coach on our team, but his little brother Greg Koch was the "other" tailback in our wishbone, rushed for almost a thousand yards himself, and threw some of the nastiest lead blocks and arc blocks you'd ever see. Like older brother Gary, Greg was "vertically challenged", but that made him difficult to knock off balance and impossible to get underneath when he was lead blocking.

We could only hope for the type rivalry as Memorial & Stratford. I was at the game and was shocked at the amount of people that were there. St. Thomas rivalry doesn't come close. They've bounced us around to a bunch of districts so that makes it hard to develop anything. If they leave us in this district I can see something developing between Strake & Stratford/Memorial because a lot of those kids know one another.

It WAS a big crowd. I would guess 8-9,000 easily, maybe more (jammed, Tully holds about 15,000 per Texas Bob's). Of course, Stratford's crowd is reliably big and usually 50% bigger than Memorial's but I see Memorial's fan base growing in recent years, which is a good thing.
Guess it depends what is going on at the yacht club on a given Friday night .... ;)

I was let down by this one... I really expected it to be closer, and i really wished we would have won, obviously. Sadly, we did not step up to the challenge and didn't look ready to win it and it showed on the field. A pick 6 on opening drive doesn't help when it comes to momentum. What also didnt help is our inability to stop MHS from gaining 3 or 4 yards every time they ran the ball. Nolan Miller really impressed me, and I'm happy to see an old friend dominate like he did, I just wished it wasnt against us. And when our D did stop yall from running on 1st and 2nd, yall would pick on our corners and come up with a pass for the first down. I gotta take my hat off to Memorial just great plays, and I feel bad for Hastings after this one.
I can already tell that this is gonna be a terrible week of practice;).

While it was a good crowd, I thought last year's was stronger on both sides. With the yacht clubs all down due to Ike and the team playing well, expect record crowds from the MHS faithful from here on out.
Good luck the rest of the way to the Spartans.
