I have been amused at the very few Longview supporters who are crying conspiricy - and I probably acted a little silly and childish in chiding them. I'm actually a little embarrased for myself and for some of my fellow Owl fans.

By and large, I enjoy the Longview guys on this site. They are passionate and support their team. When they CRUSHED us in '02, for the most part they were cool with it (they got their shots in during the week following, but cooled off after that ;) ).

I will say this - we Owl fans are talking trash to Longview like WE beat them. We didn't - we had our hands plenty full with JT.

I am no one's dad - the other Owl fans on this site can do what they want, but...

Perhaps we should all cool it and start looking forward to Carter - a game we could as easily lose as win. And, lets not forget, that while the other two
11-5A reps will be favorites this week, we will likely be the underdogs.

Great season, Longview. It's tough to lose like you did - but you'll be back. Now, just sit back and enjoy the rest of the playoffs. Maybe some of you could even pull for the Owls... we won't tell anyone...

Look, even before the game, many of the Longview posts I saw were insulting to South and thier program. It was all Lufkin, Lufkin, Lufkin as if South was chopped liver. Not even a chance to Win. Now that South has won I see on this and several other Forums , where the loss is an embaressment, they were twice the team South was, etc. etc. Yes there were some classy Longview posts too. Not a big South fan, but I know they are scrappy, tough and VERY well couched and have won the GISD district two out of the last three years. Its interesting, that if they beat Lake Highlands, they will likely play Lufkin... Oh boy! here we go!

You really think South will be underdogs to LH? I don't know. LH got killed by Longview in non-district. Outside of Berkner, 10-5A is pretty weak. That's the only reason I would give the edge to Rowlett over Berkner. Don't be fooled by Berkner either. Rowlett will probably be their first real test this season. I have a kiddo at Berkner so I've seen a couple of their games. Those Johnson brothers are pretty good. Look for some smash-mouth running with Berkner-Rowlett. Should be a good game that I'm calling a toss-up. I like South over LH, Berkner over Rowlett in close game and Garland by a small margin over Carter.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't think anyone would touch us until Lufkin. I wasn't being biased either...noone gave SG a chance vs. Lview. Oh well, that's why we play the game. Cudos to SG for playing hard and knocking us off.

When are we going to learn that you can't compare teams by common opponents. This game is a toss up imo. Sad to say but it seems coaching may be Longview's problem. Not a knock on Lview's coaches but man SG was outmaned and they pulled it off.

Please disregard any Lview fans who come on here talking about a conspiracy. That is absurd. This loss is hard to explain but the more we all discuss it seems that coaching is the culprit. Also on some of the penalalties that showed Lviews lack of focus. If we would've played SG like we played JT I don't doubt we wouldv'e beat them like expected. I support our coaches 100% and won't knock them b/c I know they gave it their all. You can't knock them when they are trying their best. Coach King was choking up in the post game interview...this hurt him more than anyone. I really feel for him and even more so for the players.

No - I said that the other two GISD teams (SGHS and Rowlett) will be the favorites and WE will likely be the underdogs against Carter.

I think SG and Rowlett both win by about 10...

There are several teams in this state other than LV that I like . . . Garland is one of them.

There are also several teams in this state that I can not stand . . . Dallas carter is one of them.

Good Luck Garland - beat DC!!!! :) :)

You are one of many that can't stand Carter... I wonder does Dallas Sunset have that problem.

If SG plays with the emotion that they did against Longview they should have no problem against Lake Highlands. Then again, Longview shoulda had no problem with SG.

From a computer ratings site that I really respect, the picks on the Garland teams games are:

Carter by 7 over Garland
South Garland by 5 over Lake Highlands
Rowlett by 2 over Berkner

Last week they had:

Rowlett by 10 over Mesquite (good pick)
JT by 1 over Garland (just two points off, but still wrong, thank God :D)
Longview by 22 over South Garland (OOPS........oh well)

Lake Highlands got blown out by Longview in Predistrict play. South Garland barely beat longview in round one in a close game. Judging by this, you could say that SG is clearly the better team. But in defense of my wildcats, Longview was also playing with a lot of passion the first half of the season. Longview had many returning starters; LH was breaking in a new quarterback who was unable to play all of his soph year due to an injury. But let me tell you something, that kid can throw. Slow as hell, but he can throw.

Just for comparison, Lake Highlands played North Garland in week one, winning 24-19. South Garland beat Norht Garland 14-7. Looking at these games, we could say that the teams are more or less equal, only SG showing a better D.

Now in round one, LH played White, winning 55-24, with half of whites yardage and points coming in the 4th quarter against 2nd and 3rd stringers. In predistrict, SG beat white, 21-9. Don't know the story there, all I know is the score. If we just look at that game, we can say that since Whites a crappy team, SG is not much better.

But anyway the short of it is, we could debate the merits of either team all day without being able to persuade each other of one teams superiority. I haven't seen SG play, and I only saw LH play against a crappy (as usual) richardson team. But I bet its gonna be a good, close game nonetheless.

Now for Carter and Garland.... I don't know how it will end up, but I'm pulling for Garland. Gotta pull for garland, being practically next door to LH.

Rowlett versus Berkner: I definitely believe Berkner is overrated. They're a good team, But they are definitly not number 4 in the metroplex. personally i think they belong somewhere between 8 and 15. But that aint an LH guy hatin' on berkner, its just my opinion. Until they prove themselves against a good team, they shouldn't be ranked that high.

Well anyway, looks like we have a good weekend of football ahead of us. Best of luck to all the players out there. Damn I wish I could come up to see it.

Sorry, let me clarify my position . . . I don't want to be framed as a hater of anybody or anything. . . The proper wording should be that I dislike DC (remove the can't stand). My feeling stems from the 1980s' and the reprehensible actions of some of your fans following a game that I attended. . . maybe I should let it go. I am sure that at some point and time I will eventually change my position, but just not yet. Maybe I should attend another one of DC games so I can get a better feel for your fan base present day growth and development. If it makes you feel any better, there are a few (Texas HS) teams that I dislike more than DC, e.g., Vidor (for one). . . In other words, if DC was in the state championship against one of the lower spectrum teams (on my dislike list) then I'd probably support DC. ;)
