Congrats on breaking Carroll's all time Texas High School Football regular season winning streak of 72 games! We would have loved to contest you for it last week, but it couldn't have come against a more respected foe than our old friends Lufkin...

Thanks for the congrats. You know....I didn't even think about that record tonight. I was just wanting the boys to get used to being back on the field and forgot everything else. They were kind of looked as the underdog this week so I am really proud for my boys.

this was a D slugfest. Lufkin O gives up 3 Td or let me say NS D caused 6 LP turnovers and scored 3 times.

Time for district play.. Longview beat up on Sulpher Springs 3-13

Lufkin should be ready for district after playing some great teams in the pre-season

NS is a gritty, determined champ. that answered the bell despite not playing for 3 weeks. Gutsy last second td pass.

Lufkin played our hearts out. Obviously - you can't give up 3 returned fumbles for TD's - but we did and still almost pulled it out.

The play before the TD pass with 30 seconds left - our best db had both hands on a pick 6 but couldn't pull it in - tough break.

Hats off to the Shore. What a night.

4 fumbles lost?

Yes and 3 were for touchdowns. The only td the LP defense gave up was with 1 minute left on 3rd down and short on a slant. LP had no business losing this game. If the offense was not the absolute worst I have seen in 10 plus years in Lufkin then this team would be a normal elite LP team. Sad because the wrs are very good for LP and Trimble will be a top recruit. Not dez but who is. 6'2 200 and very good. Hats off to the NS they are loaded with athletes just like I thought and remind me a lot of LP. Hard hitting game and lots of jawing going on but a lot of respect shown also.

I was disappointed in our O-line play obviously - but NS had alot to do with that. I think we found our rb tonight - my vote is for Ingram. No. 21 just can't get it done.

Yeah - what are the odds of giving up 21 points on fumbles?

Great game feeling a little dejected right now. NS has one scary defense but Lufkin was also very successful. Trimble should be the #1 WR in Texas next season hands down. He kept Lufkin in the game hands down. This is one that just got away from us tonight well back to the drawing board I guess.

I though our OC was bad, but damn NS I know how you feel. 3rd and 10 and gave up a TD that hurt right there. from there I wonder if NS would have went for it our kicked a FG anyway great game on both sides. I know LP will be ready.

Claybon had plenty of time to throw. I thought the O line played the best game of the year. DID YOU SEE THE THE SIZE OF THEIR D LINE. The O line is all you want to talk about every week. They are getting better every week.

Favpak I would have to agree with LP84. The Oling did a pretty decent job. I don't know how you figure that Claybon could sit there and watch that defense come in and take him out and never make a move or anything to get loose. Pretty poor QB job if you ask me. I was at the game and saw it all. The QB for Lufkin lost that game. It's like he has no clue as to what is going on. I watched 7 different plays where he was tackled for a loss without even trying to evade the defense. NO MORE BLAME ON THE O Line. The runners NEVER hit the line FULL SPEED. Even on the kick offs or punts. All this fake and "JUKE" stuff has got to go. Time to put the helmet in somebody's numbers and make some yards. Pretty sad QB performance if you ask me and a super defensive performance. Lufkin has a Serious "D"!!!

Both defenses played well tonite. The o's were erratic at best, as were the refs. Maybe they'll do better next time:eek:. Trimble is a handful. Get a consistent runnning game going and he will destroy defenses. Randle and Co. were able to pressure the LP qbs which led to the to's. Lp's d-line kept our running game in check mostly, which kept our O from scoring, until the last drive. The result is not shocking, but the way we got there was a little surprising. Way to go Mustangs!

My NS hero of the game was the FB #33 Broussard.

After the NS offense came off of the field after their next to last offensive possession, he got into the entire offense's face and was letting them have it.

When they came back out on the field, it looked like a totally different offense. What a leader on the team.

I agree with ya'll about the rb situation in Lufkin - we need the player in that can be depended upon and will run hard and north/south.

As far as the comments about Claybon - we were obviously not at the same game. He had zero time to throw on those sacks. Credit NS - you bring 6 to 7 on the rush - we never adjusted for that. Yes, I'm well aware the NS D-line is huge and fast - give them credit.

Claybon was "sitting back there" - was he lounging? LOL - that is laughable. He was harrassed all night long. Again - he made some bad mistakes - but anyone pinning this loss entirely on him is not being fair.

Trevon is good for at least one fumble a game. My preference is Ingram as well. We are down to only two RB right now because Wendell Smith left the team. Don't know the exact reason, but it was probably a playing time issue. he was a good runningback that was never used for some reason.

Knock Claybon all you want, his decision making may not always be the best but you have to give the kid credit for hanging in that pocket last night under a hot NS rush. He made some pretty good throws last night, coupled with some key runs to keep drives alive. He made several nice throws to Trimble, besides the kid has been playing hurt for three weeks. I thought he ddi a good job. Sure would like to see that Tinz kid a little longer, he was gutsy and looked like a leader for the short time he played.

North Shore has some great athletes on that team and looked pretty good after a three week layoff. Congratulations on a nice win at Abe, that doesn't happen very often. You should have no trouble extending your 73 game win streak. Good luck the rest of the season.

Now in the 4th quarer our offensiveline started to push around the NS front 7  but for the first 3 quarters well lets just say Im sure that was the most uncomfortable position Claybon was put in his 2 years as the starter.

Yeah im quite suprised Lufkin was able to put up that much offensively considering Claybon had a bruised shin coming into the game while the TE Lee had a groin injury and Trimble was banged up maybe his knee or shin keep gettin him and Claybon's injury missed up. Then our second best WR more then likely got his entore rib cage broken by the NS DB last night. Toough game for us but I like what I saw lastnight minus the defensive TD's although the 1st defensive TD's was all the defensive the other two was what Lufkin fans have said about the offense all season.

1) Jeff tried to pass as three NS defenders had him sandwiched - one literally took the ball out of his hands and strolled in. Jeff should have eaten it.

2) On his third snap, Arthur Tinz - backup qb - just whiffed - tried to throw ouf or our endzone and the ball came loose on his wind-up. NS falls on the freebie. Hey, I've seen Manning do that.

3) LP has 3rd and 1 foot on our 45 - down 14 to 7. Claybon goes under center and does a quick-pitch to Trevon. He takes his eyes off the ball - then tries to pick it up - NS defender picks it up and runs home free for td.

21 points.

Fav, it's about going through your progressions very quickly. You can't pump fake multiple times on that type of rush. A really good spread QB has to be able to shoot quick and with accuracy. Agreed there are spurts of great athelticism, he has a great arm and can run well...IMO just holds on to the ball too long and still a little slow on reads. Tough job yes, but it goes with the position.

I agree that you can't pin the loss on one player. I don't know how #2 QB would do because haven't seen him much, but he did spark the team while in there last night. Maybe given an entire game he has just a much trouble? Maybe you rotate and see what happens? But to say the line failed is just as laughable because they were under assualt all night with blitz looks but gave the QB >3 seconds to throw and the runs had lanes - your RB has to run North/South!!! The last TD was a QB sneak witha fumble that was recovered in the endzone by an OLineman! Anytime you stop and run East/West you are already in trouble and very easy to tackle, especially against a strong D like NS brought.

NS RB's ran downhill and broke tackles (when they weren't being mugged), LP RB's are good enough to do the same if they will just run hard. I thought Ingram did that very good of that last night.

All-in-all, I thought the Pack did come out and play inspired football, just got to eliminate the mistakes - season is far enough along to have this problem worked out - especially since it was a problem last year. Not that my opinion matters, but the play calling improved as LP did spread the field alot more that I have seen thus far and I have been at the games. That reverse pass was wide open for 6, just not enough arm:rolleyes:

The atmosphere of the game was awesome and both sides really got into it. Fans really came alive.

Congrats to NS you deserved the win and wish you the best. LP will be fine in district and IMO will go deep in the PO's.

What a great atmosphere for high school football! I can't imagine that it can get any better than what I witnessed in Lufkin. I brought my neighbors who are from Canada to their first Texas high school football game. All they knew about Texas football they gathered from "Friday Night Lights". They were in awe to say the least. I soon figured out why Lufkin had a 27 game home wining streak and why NS has a 73 game streak of their own. Both well coached, athlete filled teams. Tradition plays a huge factor as well.

21 points.

WOW!

It's almost like these kids are snakebit. With district starting on Friday, hopefully they can shake the mistakes and get off to a good start. Sometimes all you need is a few breaks to go your way and pick up a win to start making the turn.

I was Shocked Outlaw said that comment about NS after the game and I like how he is blunt at times but that just simply made Lufkin look like sore losers and what is that saying about LP if he is saying there is no way NS is the #3 team in the state. I could understand a kid saying that after the game with all the emotions but one of the best coaches in the state making a huge salary? Just goofy IMO. Pay the NS team some clearly deserved respect and give them credit for beating you on your home turf. That is something that has not happened in a long time and is a big achievement. Ask state champs Katy in 03 or Tyler Lee in 04 if it is easy winning at Abe. On the ranking talk. I really do not think there is a clear dominant team this year besides maybe trinity and NS has every right to be ranked where they are considering their recent record and accomplishments. LP gets that same type of respect. Many could say LP (me me me) was not the 9th team in the state then the 13th and 16th either or whatever in ap? But so what? Waste of time to get into rankings that much they are pointless in the end. LP and NS are usually top 5 to top 10 teams this decade and I would say on a good night NS could beat anybody. They came to a very tough place and got the win. What did some LP fans expect? LP team that has not lost in 6 years at home to lose by 40? If LP loses it is usually in last few minutes. NS is a ball control team with a great d. Their offense if probably not as explosive as usual and believe me LP can relate. I think LP should take a similar approach with the type of personnel they have this year. NS will not have many blow outs. They are not a SLC type of quick strike team so what? Means nothing. Winning is the goal.

Ok and on the other situation. Not degrading any player at all. Tinz impressed me very much so in the little I saw of him and has a very natural throwing motion and looks comfortable in the pocket. He was a little confused at times on plays but that was a very tough position to be put in against a top ranked D. Brilliant call by OC to have him roll out in the endzone when just put into game cold vs a top ranked D. Not shocking though. Claybon showed a lot of heart and is a very good athlete. Think he would be very good tight end or wr. A seriously do not comprehend you people to refuse to see the light. And that is not a knock on him at all. Not everybody is made for the qb position just reality. He would be a very good wr or te IMO. He simply does not see the field and is very inaccurate at times and throws like a robot and aims the ball. And please spare me with well did you see his stats last year and he was mvp of district. Newsflash. LP's district was awful last year and some pee wee teams could light up oakridge on the west side of magnolia type teams. Any decent defense LP plays he majorly struggles and so does the O. Not all his fault do not get me wrong and not bashing him or calling a kid out at all. Never would do that.

Trevon has looked so much better in last 3 games he is running hard. Still has a fumbling problem.

Props to the stout D I think I saw mcfarland crying I felt bad for him. The secondary looks to be one of the best I have seen in a long time at LP. Very good technique. Quick is the manI love that guy. They can keep it close vs any team by themselves. wash those turnovers and LP wins easily. But that is would of could of should of weeny excuse talk though and is very loboish. Screw that LP lost because they deserved to and NS is a good team. I do think LP should adjust their O and be more conservative and play more field position and play to their strengths which is the D. LP is clearly not a explosive offense like usual and they make way too many mistakes. The OC acts like they are a quick strike explosive offense like they usually have been in the past and they are obviously anything but besides to the LP fans with the giant purple denial glasses on. Adjust. Let the D win the games and have the O just manage the game and cut down turnovers and LP will be fine. Play to your strength which is D. Quit going for it and play field position and be conservative at times please. Help the D out and let them actually have a decent rest from time to time.

My meaningless message board opinion nothing more.

I can just see the blind now telling me that I was clearly wrong on change because the O and qb exploded on mega power new caney next week. Can't argue with that. I mean they gave 3a cleveland hell in a 16-0 loss. This upcoming explosion of stellar LP O will clearly show I have no clue what I was talking about. ;) LP has been mediocre at best on offense 2 years in a row now besides when playing 3a type teams so let's stick with it a few more years and live in denial world. I like it. Change might make it worse? Oh wait that is impossible.

Just an FYI....I emailed Coach Outlaw and told him how inappropriate his comments were and how he should have been congratulating his boys instead of making them feel bad and on top of it cutting NS down....why not brag on how well your kids played instead of cutting everyone else down.

He did email me back and said he agreed and gave an apology....not that him giving me an apology is important, but these are kids and we need to proud of them no matter what.

Maybe it is just the teacher in me but we need to pat our kids on the back occassionally and tell them what great jobs they are doing. They could be doing alot worse things on Friday night.

You are right.....but sometimes I think about how coaches get away with so much....if I said something negative or put a kid down in the classroom I'd be fired in a heartbeat. I've sat and listened to coaches that just cussed a kid on the sideline....do you know how that would go over in a classroom.

I don't really care what he said about NS because rankings mean nothing, but I felt bad for his own boys. They played their hearts out and he should have congratulated them instead of being a sore loser.

You are right....focus on the positives....you know how I feel about the kids though!

I am not trying to be rude at all so please don't take it that way but weren't you one of the ones last year that could not see what some of us saw last year? If so what is different this year that makes you feel the way you do about this Lufkin team? Didn't you blast some of us Lufkin fans for speaking about Lufkin not going far in the playoffs last year because of the lack of consistency on offense? I have just noticed a few of your recent posts and they seem to be the complete opposite of what you were posting last season. The reason I question the change in attitude is because what we are seeing this season is pretty much what we saw last season. But like I said, I am not trying to be rude. I am just curious. BTW, congrats on your alma mater's win.

I did. I mixed some Tobasco in with the Ketchup for my crow. MMMmmm. Delish!

I couldn't see well for the purple shades I was wearing. My wife sold them in a garage sale earlier this year. I found out I can see much better without them. It was the Spring game and some stuff happening in other sports last year that did it for me. I realized that the best player at every position is not necessarily the one that gets to play.

I visited the sausage factory in Lufkin ISD Athletics so to speak. That's too bad because I used to love sausage.

Regarding the NS game....

My two boys always asked me over the years who I would root for if Lufkin and NS played. I told them I would cross that bridge when I got to it. Well... In the end I had to stay with my school. I think my kids respected me more for sticking with my school.

However, I would have been satisfied if Lufkin had gotten the offense back on track last Friday. It appears that is a tall order this year.
