Copperas Cove and Leander, should be a good one. IMO If Cove executes like they have in their past 2 games they will win this one. I think in the range of something like 31-14. Defense has played outstanding the past 3 games and it shouldnt change.

From what I can tell about Leander they are more pass oriented than run. Have over 2400 passing yards to just over 1000 rushing yards. Averaging 219 yards in the air and 126 on the ground. On defense they are allowing 107 through the air and 135 on the ground. They average 32 ppg while giving up 16ppg.

im not biased or anything...but leander should win. lol i think it will be a tough one, but leander's defense is always going strong...even against cedar park, when our offense wasnt doing too hot, we held em...cove better be ready...we've gained most our starters back and you better believe we're ready to play!! :D

I don't think it will be that close. I don't think Leander's defense will get enough stops to win...nor will they be able to score enough to win. Fun to speculate, we will see for sure Saturday who the "best in CENTEX" is!! :D

People talking on this site has nothing to do with the play on the field. If it did then most teams would never win because most eveyone hypes their team. It's all in fun... most of the time. Well KF said they had a tough D and that Cove would not be able to run through them. From my observations, Cove thrashed KF and i bet they are still wondering how a bunch of small little DAWGS put such a big spanking on them.

Not that this wil happen again but if i was you, i would watch the replay of that game so you know what you are up against if they come to play. Leander is good but everyone i have talked to in Georgetown that has seen Leander play says Leander will have their hands full and be lucky if they get the win.

This is high school football and sometimes luck prevails.

Every team has over zealous fans. The majority though have respect for the teams they play. From your posts I see you guys are CC players and if your attitude is reflective of the entire team you seem too be a well coached and disciplined team. I think almost everybody on this message board from cove underestimates leander. We have lost one game, to a rival, our best player was out of the game as were alot of starters. I cannot see our passing offense being shut down for a full game, when we have our WR's out there.(Billy, Curenski, Travis are all D1 material, and Mckinley, our 4th WR, also could play D1 but tore his ACL). I guess what im saying is i dont think yall know how good our offense really is. ON what team do u see 4 possibly D1 Wide receivers?
I do not know how good coppers cove really is, but by looking at the district, it doesn't look to outstanding. If im not mistaken i think harker heights was yalls third playoff team. They played cedar park and it was 28-0 at half, we got so bored that we left. Cedar park finished 5th in our district. As far as the strength of schedule, i give the nod to leander. Also all these predictions by cove fans, they mean nothing. I can sit here and type and say leander will win by 50 Touchdowns and give no evidence to back it up what so ever or just say leanders stunts are good. But it means nothing.
Either way its sure to be a good game, im just stickin up for my school because all of yall cove fans think throwing out a score is reliavant with nothing to back it up. Tell me something about the coves team and how good it is, or tell me how one of their strengths will play into leanders weaknesses, dont just say a score with no evidence. My memory comes and goes - but CCove fans are notorious for making more noise here than anyone else. Obviously the Dawgs are for real, but their endless barking gets old very quickly. As we've mentioned here before - every single one of them slinked back to the pound after getting absolutely obliterated last year by a decent, but not great Cedar Park team. Whether it's this week or another week - that will happen again for sure - unless of course Cove takes it all - then watch out - we'll all need rabies shots.

What was that? Like the first game of the year. AMC lost to Westlake in their first game and reeled of 8 of 9 and beat the almighty Woodlands last week. Harker Heights almost upset Lufkin!!! Give me a break..

I think almost everybody on this message board from cove underestimates leander. We have lost one game, to a rival, our best player was out of the game as were alot of starters. I cannot see our passing offense being shut down for a full game, when we have our WR's out there.(Billy, Curenski, Travis are all D1 material, and Mckinley, our 4th WR, also could play D1 but tore his ACL). I guess what im saying is i dont think yall know how good our offense really is. ON what team do u see 4 possibly D1 Wide receivers?
I do not know how good coppers cove really is, but by looking at the district, it doesn't look to outstanding. If im not mistaken i think harker heights was yalls third playoff team. They played cedar park and it was 28-0 at half, we got so bored that we left. Cedar park finished 5th in our district. As far as the strength of schedule, i give the nod to leander. Also all these predictions by cove fans, they mean nothing. I can sit here and type and say leander will win by 50 Touchdowns and give no evidence to back it up what so ever or just say leanders stunts are good. But it means nothing.
Either way its sure to be a good game, im just stickin up for my school because all of yall cove fans think throwing out a score is reliavant with nothing to back it up. Tell me something about the coves team and how good it is, or tell me how one of their strengths will play into leanders weaknesses, dont just say a score with no evidence. I dont know who you are typing on ur computer so i dont trust ur opinion and find it totally ereliavent. Do ur home work *****es.

High School Football: Dawgs continue title quest tonight

One piece of the puzzle was put in place by the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs in their quest for winning the first football state championship after the 62-12 dismantling of the Klein Forest Golden Eagles last week.

The next piece of the puzzle can be attained with a victory over familiar opponent in the area round of the playoffs tonight at Round Rock ISD Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

This will mark the second time in the past four seasons that the two teams have met in this round. Leander defeated Cove 45-27 in 2002, but Bulldawg head coach Jack Welch does not want to dwell on that game as motivation for this year's squad. Instead, he wants his team to focus on the task at hand — Leander in Round Rock.

"You have to take every game as they come in the playoffs, there are no tomorrows," Welch said. "That's always been our focus."

After missing the playoffs last year, Leander (10-1) enters tonight's playoff game focused as well as it defeated Bastrop 38-13 in their bi-district contest.

The Lions offense is centered around the shotgun spread formation but more recently has reverted to a multiple formation look with the return of several offensive lineman, back from early-season injuries.

Drew Dunn helped the Lions return to the playoffs by throwing for over 2,600 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. Dunn spreads the ball out to many receivers but his main target this season has been Billy Allen with 718 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns.

That will not be the only weapon that Dunn has at his disposal. Dunn's second option, Curenski Gilleylen (41 receptions, 800 yards, 8 TDs) returns to the line-up after missing last week's game due to an injury.

"They are a very well-coached team with a potent offense," Welch said. "They possess four good receivers and a quarterback who can get them the ball for touchdowns."

Jason Barnes (125 rushes, 600 yards) provides the rushing attack for the Lions and according to the head coach Steve Gideon may play a vital role in determining whether or not the Lions are able to move the ball against a stiff Bulldawg defense.

"I think a lot of things come into play, the team has been beat up all year and coming through but now we are finally getting healthy," Gideon said. "We have been able to play many people on our team with success but finally we get to see the starters together."

The Lions also boast one of the more difficult defenses to play against in the area. They are allowing only 12 points and 241 yards per game behind the senior leadership of middle linebacker Will McCann. He is joined by fellow linebackers Yomi Orekoya, Bret Schroeder and Ruben Molina.

That defense will have its hands full in Round Rock with the offense of Copperas Cove. The Bulldawgs (11-0) reeled off 406 yards of total offense in last week's victory, even though many of the starters were sat down late in the third quarter.

With the sudden emergence of Billy Abreu at fullback, the Bulldawgs have several different skill players that could burn the Lions. Abreu has gained 167 yards over the last two games and gives the Dawgs that added dimension to the offense.

"They have the characteristics of a great football team. They have a tremendous amount of speed and that is what concerns us the most," Gideon said. "(Brent) Garner is the catalyst of that team and if (Donald) Buckram breaks loose, we will not be able to catch him."

Each side is looking forward to the match-up which, according to Gideon, will be the best game in Texas.

Should be a good game because both teams have the big play ability. Two keys i see, if Cove can establish the run against Leander and if the Cove D can stop Leanders pasing game Cove will take it.

Thats what i say. They don't have to be pretty as long as you get the W at this point.
Hopefully Cove gets one tonight as well. I think we are better than Leander but if we play like we have in a couple games including the AMC game we could be in trouble. If we play lilke we did last week, it will not be a problem. Last weeks game was what we have seen from Cove several times year and it is awesome when they play like that.

Besides, everyone knows 13-5A is a weak district. Maybe when two state titles come out of the district this year they may get some respect. I am not predicting that just yet since we are focused on one game at a time but it would be nice.

Even if one or both wint one, then you get the historians on here talking about how many they got to your one. You will never win with some of the posters on here as long as your team is out numbered.

13-5A rocks and will again next week.

I was headed down to the concession stand as they were leaving and you could tell by the look on their face that some respect for the Dawgs was earned last night. :confused:
