On www.texasfootballratings.com, SV is favored by 5. SV was predicted to beat San Marcos by 9. I'm thinking SV by 2 or more touchdowns.

This might be the closest of the games in SA. Jay is the best of 27, but I'll say SV by 8.

I think if SV gets into the game and destroys Jay's morale, they will take off.

I have not voted on this game or given an opinion because I started talking up Jay a month ago...when I thought we'd meet them not SV. They look tough right now and firing on all cyliders. I also would not mind another Madison/SV deep playoff this year... :D

Smithson Valley had trouble containing the Reagan QB that night so Jay may cause some problems for them. Jay has these 2 little FAST guys that can run all over you just like the Reagan QB.

SV had a lot of trouble early on, but have fixed most of them. If they can limit the SM running attack, they will be just fine with anyones running game. No team is as hard to control as SM. If you have not seen the things they do in the running game, you cant understand it. There are not 2, but 4-5 guys that can have the ball on any given play. Even in the stands you dont know who has it. There are 2-3 guys being tackled on every play. SV had trouble with Reagans QB, as well as Madison, and Churchill. However, each week they have got better and better, and these teams only helped them in this area. SV has outscored their opponents 70-21 in the last two games, they are playing now like they were expected to be this pre-season. If they can make it past Jay, we should see a good Reg champ contest, and then hopefully see if Katy is as good as they seem to be.

What happened at the Marshall game? That seems odd that they only beat them by 3.

The two FAST guys are both backs the QB for Jay is only on the field to hand off.

I know how Madison beat Mac. It was an excellent and calculated risk/reward bit of coaching at the end of the game. Just ask yourself "Why did Mac score that last TD?"

Is this one of those 'Why did the chicken cross the road?' questions?

This is not a true statement. San Marcos runs well because of their scheme. Other teams run well because they can move you and create room for their featured back to run. Stopping one scheme does not guarantee success against another scheme. The most difficult ground attack to defend, in my opinion, is the one that will hit you in the mouth and wear you down as the game progresses, like Katy and Northshore in '03 or E. Trinity this year.

Just ask yourself the question. And think about it...

Mac was up by 1 point
Mac had the ball deep in Madison's Territory
Mac was not doing a good job of stopping Madison's Offence.
Less than 2 min in the game.

Mac scores, kicks the PAT to go up by 8.
With just enough time for Madison to score a TD and 2 point conversion.

Sounds like some good Defensive Coaching by Madison (Risk/Reward = Give Up Points/To get the Ball)

I understand the strategy, but going back to the original point...
Jay lost to Clark by 1. And the question was, why? I am confused by your answer/post!

Sorry to confuse you. I was referencing that Madison won their game by some risky coaching; I was not trying to answer the original question at all. I was not at the Jay/Clark (I'm pretty sure I was at the O'C/Marshall) game so while I have seen both teams play I can't truly comment on how the game went down because I was not there.
