View Full Version : Colerain vs Tyler Lee..The "Epic" Battle!!!

Colerain lost yesterday to St. X to end their season and a hopeful run at the State Title. As I look back on the Tyler Lee @ Colerain game, a few things come to me. The main thing being...what in the heck was it all about? Honestly! How could we have taken 2 teams that had success in winning state titles - respectively - the year before, play them in week 3 of the following season and hope to come to some conclusion as to who is superior in the eyes of the "Football Gods"?!

You have 2 solid classes in juniors and seniors and when the seniors make up the better part of a winning program, then they graduate, what do you think would happen?! Colerain had better depth, this year, next year their depth may not be so tough....so do we take a loaded senior class to Ohio, clobber the Cardinals and then beat our chests, claiming victory over all?!!

Here's what I think....
I think we know more about a team at the end of a season, than at the beginning...whether they overcame adversity in close games, overcame injuries or let downs....whether they were ranked #1 and took everyones best shot, but kept on winning. I think we know Colerain was/is the better team, hosting a 9-2 record and losing - in the second round of the Ohio playoffs - to what many feel will be their new state champion, St. X. I think we know Tyler Lee just didn't have "IT" this year, hosting a 4-6 record, finishing 6th in their district and not making the playoffs.

I think this is HS football...the best and the worst of it! We went a little far with the notion of an "Epic Battle", and pride can do that, but I think the bigger picture can be admired.

These kids didn't whine, they didn't choke, they didn't hold their collective heads down, at the end of the year saying, "It's finished...it's over!"...no they just simply put their football gear on, got hyped up and went out there to win a game.

Congrats to both programs on their successful seasons!!! That's right.....I said successul!!

(btw, this is not a "we're better than you" thread, so please don't reply if you have nothing good to say about hs football, in general, or these two programs. thanx - greatone)

I know! I've been keeping up with the Ohio saga. Colerain lost to X, 12-9, yesterday, in OT. (It's gotta be hard for Colerain, they've lost by a total 10 pts, in both games to X.)

And I'm not a huge fan of national polls. Not enough evaluation to merit proper rankings!

I like Calpreps a lot, though. They track all 14K teams and give them a ranking. I don't think it's bulletproof, but they do a good job stirring conversation.

Ya! See that's what I think their main job is....."stirring conversation"!

It's just too hard.....but I do like that Fox Sports is trying to put these games on National Television. I wish they would show more games!

Even though the new SAT does not include analogies I still think it is important for the high school age posters to have some experience.

2005 Colerain:Ohio::2004 Denton Ryan:Texas

Wow...that caught me off guard! Clarify your statement!

I know you know this...but St.Xavier is the #1 team in Ohio. Colerain is without a doubt a top #3 team in Ohio and both times they barely lost to St. Xavier.

Tyler Lee is probably about #35-#40 in Texas (if that) but probably somewhere in that area. Plus, Tyler Lee went to Ohio (tough for high school teams to travel like that) and they played a respectful game in Ohio.

I'll put it to you this way. I think their is about 15 or so teams in Texas that would play with St. Xavier down for down and about 5 or so teams that I honestly think would beat St.Xavier (8 0ut of 10 times) there would be that fluke game everynow and then.

That's my two cents on the whole Tx vs Ohio thing..... ;)

I understand your point...but that was not the point of the thread! I was just simply congratulating both teams on their valiant effort, throughout their respected seasons.

I didn't want to start a whole "we're better than you" argument!

'Cus an argument will never bee won...and why should it?!!....We're talking about "state pride".....and pride can make all of us think, do and say crazy things!!!

these national polls are ridiculus, in all honsety how many of these people have seen 2 of the 25 they rank?? im sure most have seen carroll, so when they vote they'll most likely see the best team from their state/area and favor that...last year im glad we got recnoized as "national champs" we had a few tv games people were able to watch us, this year if everything goes our way and it happens again, i think it would be more valid, tough road, more tv games, target on our back etc etc
