For those of you that don't puke when reading Peter King, this from his Monday Morning QB........
" I think if Matt Millen had stayed in Detroit, and the Lions continued to nosedive, chances would have been better than 50-50 that Roy Williams would have been dealt to Dallas for a first-round pick before the Oct. 14 trading deadline.
Now? Depends whether Lions interim GM Martin Mayhew and club executive VP Tom Lewand want to try to sign Williams long-term or add a low first-rounder to the mix of whoever ends up running the franchise. The correct decision, unquestionably, would be to add the first-round pick. Even though it might be the 32nd pick in the draft, you're better off getting quality youth than you are to pay sick money to a player who doesn't want to be there.
By the way, adding Williams for the final 11 weeks of the season would cost Dallas only $2.4 million in salary -- a pretty small sum for possible Super Bowl insurance."
.......So the question becomes, would ya? I can't see how the answer would be anything other than yes. Thoughts?

Of course I would.... it has to evident at this point that Crayton cant get it done consistantly as a #2... I like Austin though... I want Roy here and as fast as we can get him....
Yeah we need Roy... how old is TO now?

If all it takes is a first round pick, consider this thing done. Roy would give you a legitimate threat opposite Owens on the outside. He's insurance in case of injury & he's the number one for the post Owens era. You still keep your other wr's and have turned the heat all the way up for playing time. That forces the development of the young kids and puts serious pressure on Crayton to get sharp. I like it.

I would've had Roy on the first plane into D/FW yesterday.

That would be very nice
I thought Hurd would have a nice impact this year, but he was hurt in the last preseason game. He almost came up with a big play that most likely would've led to a Nick Folk FG and a Cowboy W
Throw in the Roy Williams from OU in the trade.
He is done unless he gains weight and plays LB
Stop hatin on Crayton; he has been solid.
That's Witten tough guy....

This isn't about hating on Crayton. Playoff game aside, he has great hands. He blocks well and plays with a swagger. What its about is getting better. If a talent like Williams is available while in his prime at a bargain, you gotta go for it. Like I said, his acquisition would only make our wr's that much better. The fight for playing time would guarantee everyone is playing at their peak. It would only serve to make Crayton, Hurd & Austin that much better.

And it would give us a little something called "depth".

Crayton's stat line last game....7 receptions for 87 yards
key reception and gain on the first TD drive, key receptions on the FG drive prior to half....he's a sure handed guy and also played QB in college which is always a plus....sure handed punt returner as well though is not going to be a threat to take it the distance every time
6 for 82 in the Cleveland game
not as big of a factor in the GB game, we ran it down their throats
As a third option (Witten and Owens are obviously 1,2), he is solid
Biggest game of career came against Rams last year 7 rec. 184 2 TDs
Had a bad game against the Giants or I suppose a bad play, but Crayton will be a mainstay on this Cowboys offense for years to come...
SOLID
He can also launch the football...did you see that pass to Owens, rollling out off balance he threw a perfect spiral 50-60 yards
I predict that he will have about 65 catches for 700-800 yards this year and probably about.....4-7 TD's...solid for a third option
Of course Roy Williams is a special specimen and player
It is a no brainer that if we can get him, we should

And the thing to remember is Roy is 26 years old. At some point we have to prepare for a transition in the passing game. Someone as to take the baton when TO is gone, slows down or gets hurt. We do not have that receiver as of now. Crayton is a solid two but he's a tremendous three. Roy also has the right kind of dispositon to play alongside TO. Make this happen, Jerra!

Had to bump this one for a couple of reasons. First, were it not for a complete gift at the end Patrick Crayton would have turned in another 0-fer. What has happened to him? I've never been a Crayton hater. His p/o performance frustrated me, no doubt, but I still thought of him as decent 2 and an excellent 3. Problem is, he's not even producing like a good 3 right now. We all know that the second receiver is the third option in the passing game because of Witten's skills. We also know we have a helluva a 1/2 punch out of the backfield. All of those are facts and good things but we've used them as reasons to undersell the need for a real second receiver. We have no ability to stretch a defense if TO doesn't get off. This allows the defense to shrink the field. Having less field to cover the aforementioned weapons on is a huge plus. Second, Peter King has Jones quoted as saying that the Cowboys are absolutely not seeking a trade for another receiver. If true, I believe that to be a catastrophic mistake. Williams is a young talent from this state who would love to come home. He brings the skill set and the disposition to flourish opposite TO. I cannot see us not being heavily interested. On the plus side, Jerry can't really comment for two reasons. One, it's against the league's rules. Two, Jerry's a business man. Why create more leverage for your potential trading partner? With the deadline a week away I'm keeping my fingers crossed, not only because of the need this year but also in the coming years.

The nice thing about throwing to Williams is you can do the fades and the jump balls with him. Plus, there will be alot of field to work with if we go to the 3wr set. Imagine Owens, Williams, Crayton, Witten and Barber as the options a defense has to concern itself with.
