I had the great fortune to be at Texas Stadium to witness the playing of 3 high school football games. Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the losers. But now we have actual play-offs games completed; we can now use facts to assess the strengths or weaknesses of the teams still in post season play.
SGP (Co-District Champs 9-1) vs DR (2nd in district 7-3) – very close game and best of the day; in which I feel DR lost the initiative and allowed the momentum they had going to slip away to SGP. DR did a great job in sending the game into overtime. I guess the turnovers/interceptions hurt DR eventually. In the final analysis – 2 average play-offs destined for a short runs in the play-offs.
ET (Co-District Champs 9-1) vs FR (3rd in District 6-4) – considering ET were playing the third placed team out of district 5, with only a 6-4 record, I was not very impressed with ETs inability to put the game away early. Only because D1 is so weak that ET will probably get to the Championship game. The Haka was great
The third game; perhaps the least exciting of the day, because SLC had won it by the end of the first quarter. As a contest the game over when SLC went 27-0 early in the 2nd Quarter. 41-0 at half time. SLC slaughtered I-Mac; who had no answers for the SLC offense or defense. I-Mac earned their first 1st Down in second half and that was when some of the SLC back-ups were in. I-Mac was able to score in mopping up time. Remember I-Mac are Co-District Champions coming into the game with a 9-1 record.
But, let me say first and foremost – SLC was by far and away the best team of the day. Let me assure you SLC are for real and deserve their #1 Ranking. SLC would have put 40+ points on any of the other 4 teams that played yesterday in Texas stadium. The significance of this result :-
SLC beat I-Mac by 48 – 21, where as ET beat I-Mac 31-24
SLC scored as many touchdowns in the 1st quarter, as I-Mac did points in the entire game when thy beat SGP 3-0.
SGP beat ET 35-28. SGP beats DR 48-35 where as SLC beats DR 41-0.
SLC would beat all three District 6 Co-Champions and perhaps District 6 is not all that strong after all. Where I was seated I was surrounded by many neutrals; we all agreed that SLC is a different class to the other teams playing on the day
