I wish this game were at Comalander. I think Mac will finally stop the little streak of losing with mirrored scores to SV (2006, SV won 41-14, 2007 SV won 61-16). The few years previous, Mac was battling SV to the end and would end up with final scores of 21-14, 28-21, etc.
I think this game will be good for a couple of reasons. First, the game against Madison should help Mac. Madison didn't absolutely slaughter them, and they held serve against an offense that looked like Mac's 2006 team. Second, I think Mac will rebound well. They have key problems to fix, but again, should look this loss as a way to improve themselves for the 3-4 district games that are REALLY going to matter down the stretch. Third, I haven't been impressed by SV yet. They beat a Judson team that appears to be drowning right now, and fell (again) to a strong but not unbeatable Reagan team. Only Madison has really proven something to me.
Should be a close game, unless Mac falls apart like they did in the fourth quarter against Madison. I think Mac can win this one, but they're going to have to take a hard look at what didn't work against Madison and use it to fire themselves up.

In the game between Mac and SV, I believe that SV will benefit more from the Mac/Madison game the same way they did with the Madison/NB game. There is no way SV can match the offensive output Madison has, but as in the game they played against NB, they will do better at sealing in Mac's offense than Madison did.
Mac and NB both played Madison very well. SV, IMO, will again reap the benefit. Not so much on the offensive end, but the defense will do better than Madison. The key to NB and Mac's major gains on Madison was Madison's inability to contain a mobile QB. SV turned around a week later and shut out Blake Forester's run game. I think they will be able to do that better than we did with Clinton Killough.
One thing I will say is in favor of Mac is their receivers. They are huge. SV struggled against Askew last year. If Mac's receivers can manipulate the smaller SV defensive backs, God knows Killough can get it to them.

Here's what I find interesting. Churchill is a contender for last place in district right now, and we all know Lee will be there too. What a remarkable way to revive the 70's rivalry between those two...instead of playing in the last game of the season for the district title and a playoff berth, now they're playing in the last game of the year for 2nd to last place. :D
Of course, Johnson could spoil everything.

I'm impressed with the respect some of you are giving Johnson.
The Jags have been looking forward to this game for a few weeks of facing Mac, Madison and SV.
CTJ is not very healthy right now and depth (of course) is an issue. CTJ played not to win against SV but I would suspect Rittimann will have them fired up for Churchill.

I saw some interesting things when we played Johnson. It was like when Reagan first came onto the scene. You knew they weren't going to win, but there were certainly things to build on. I've got to give all the credit for that to Coach Rittiman, Pederson, Cueva, and Geselle. They WILL make a winning program out of this young school. Don't know how long it will take, but the system is in place.

I could live with that. Score 23 on the big, fast defense ? I would say, that would be great. A close loss to Reagan, something under 10, would give the kids of TR some juice for the rest of the year. The feeling they really do belong.
Not really, the TR kids will want to win this game bad. After playing them well last year on the varisty level and beating them last year on the JV level, I think TR has got a little swagger coming into this game. A bye week to get ready may be the difference in this game. But, I could be wrong.

The reason I gave Reagan the advantage (in a close one, mind you) is because Reagan has performed well against Cinco Ranch, Warren, and Smithson Valley. Roosevelt has talent, but like Mac, it has yet to be tested. I think Reagan will test it, and I see Roosevelt falling short this time. That's my two cents.

Actually Roosevelt has been tested against Tivy. That Antler team deserves a lot of credit. I think they'll challenge Steele for the 27-4a district title.
In any case, Tivy flat out won. But Roosevelt hasn't committed the same kind of errors since. I'm not saying, fix those and they would have won the Tivy game, but it certainly wouldn't have been what it was.
Now, Reagan is a complete shock to me. The real surprise is their defense. They've always had a decent defense, but nothing like this. I really can't wait. This will be a fantastic game. Good luck to all!!

Reagan's D is vastly improved over previous years and it should only get better. The last 3 Freshman classes (including this years class) have averaged giving up less than 7 points a game. The Sophomore and Freshman classes have a load of talent on D.

Well, we've seen it with Warren, Judson, Madison, P'ville, Katy etc etc etc. Defense wins games. Reagan's biggest troubles over the next few years will be to replace playmakers on offense. I thought they'd have more of a fall off after losing Marcus Wright, but Derrick Walls has done a fantastic job maintaining their offensive potency. With Johnson pulling kids from Reagan now, the pool of talent may drop off. But that's the future. For now, I'm wholly impressed. Reagan/Roosevelt will be a great game.

I disagree. They've come pretty close to maximizing housing on the land out there. There really aren't too many more places they can build in the Reagan area without reaching into the comal district. Couple that with a crippled economy and a market flooded with homes that are being defaulted on, you're not going to see the steady progress of home building that we've seen throughout this decade.
Johnson on the other hand is another story. From what i've heard, the estimates have Johnson over capacity in less than 3 years. I heard there are already rumblings about a new school. The location hasn't been decided on, but the logical place would have to be somewhere off 1604 and Redland. This would relieve Madison (one of the largest schools in the region), Mac (who is already overpopulated) and Johnson, who by the time the new school would be finished would have had to deal with at least 3-5 years of overpopulation.

Yes, I remember this type of thing happened when they opened Reagan. Turned out, while it was supposed to relieve Madison, it took all of about 15 minutes to fill the school to capacity and the halls at Madison were still too crowded to walk through.
I don't know if the current economic situation will completely slow the population growth in our area, but the schools are sure to settle in a bit. With Madison, Mac, Roosevelt, Reagan, and Johnson all being in the same relative area, I think the district borders will be well defined within 2-3 years. The rumblings of a new school, 1604 and Redland rd., would virtually seal the district in completely. In any case, the major growth is taking place in N.I.S.D. with Walter Brennan High School already in the works, as well as in Comal. If that is the case, the UIL could make a case for a Judson, Wagner, SV, NB, NBC (if their numbers continue to grow), East Central district.

They are still building on the west side of 281 off Wilderness Oak and north of Wilderness Oak. I also expect we will get the 5 or 6 subdivisions west of 281 that were zoned to Johnson. As the east side of 281 grows, the 5 or 6 subdivisions on the west side of 281 will be returned to Reagan. NEISD has already planned to return those areas to Bush Middle School in 2010 and I would expect Reagan to regain them in 2011 or 2012. I saw a presentation that estimates Reagan's enrollment to be at 3200+ by 2012.

What does maximizing on housing have anything to do with? And they're still building like crazy. Texas is staying pretty resistant to the national economy.

The road to the playoffs starts this weekend. Two great matchups. Roosevelt or Reagan will walk away with its first district loss. This could give Roosevelt a big boost in the district race with 4 of the 5 other playoff contenders left to play after this week. Reagan can solidify its chances at being on of the four playoff teams on Saturday night.
Either SV or Mac will be handed its second loss in district. Neither team will be able to recover from that loss ver easily as SV still has Madison and Roosevelt to play. Mac still has to square off against NB, Reagan, and Roosevelt.
District is heating up. Still a 6 team race and likely to stay that way until the final game is played. Good luck to all of our teams this weekend!

There is a problem with this scenario....where will Southwest, South San, CC King and CC Carroll go? You cant make a 4 team district in a large urban area, and more than likely Laredo ISD/United ISD learned from their blunders and will elevate all of their schools to 5A in the next realignment.

As San Antonio grows, we will have to grow with it...but the thing is SA(Region 4) has always, and I mean always received "no Love" when it comes to high school football, we are the least recruited, but year after year we have Coaches, Players and teams as good(or Better) quality of any other city in the state(and yes I include our brothers to the north, AUSTIN and our VALLEY teams to the south). But, we have come to accept that and keep putting them out there and claim our place here in Texas...so, for all of the schools in REGION 4...STAY TOUGH and keep doing what you are doing!!!:notworthy:notworthy

Reagan/Roosevelt and Mac/Sv ... What else could you ask for ! Nowhere else in Texas will you see these type of matchups on back to back nights in the same district ! Reagan, Roo is still a toss up but weather may end up playing a major factor. Mac, SV wow .... The only way SV loses this one ( and it will be a close one ) is if they are already thinking a week ahead and no way Hill let's that happen. Dist. champ may end up with one MAYBE two losses.

You can't discount the fact that he has played in alot of big games. As the SS and leadoff hitter in baseball since his sophomore he played in alot of playoff games also. When he got the ball with under a minute left vs SV he was as calm as ever. SV,Madison,NB and Mac all have first year starter as QB. Experience really makes a huge difference at that position.

reagans d has definetly improved...they run sv's exact defense....a coach from sv learned their defense for two years then got offered a varsity coaching job over at reagan to teach them the defense.....
i havent seen reagan or roosevelt play so i wont comment on that game but if i have to pick a winner id say reagan 21-13....
on the other game (sv vs. mac) sv has played superb defense this season....they have proven they can stop a good running team(judson) and a good passing team (nb)....mac has both i havent seen them play yet tho...but if madison held them to 28 i would guess sv will hold them to atleast half of that....sv's offense is starting to get better and better....not having near the explosiveness on offense that madison has id say they will put up 21-28 points.... special teams will play a huge factor in this game as well as field position.....i think sv wins this game 24-10.....

Madison had a hard time containing Clint Killough. He's a speedy little guy. He's got a cannon for an arm too. SV will have to contain the QB and be quick to the sidelines. Mac also has at least 3 receivers that are 6'4-6'5. Like three Nate Askews out there. Could be tough for SV to defend.
But, I think they will. SV 35; Mac 21.

Well, I have spent the week watching EVERY practice TR has ran.
I am going out on a limb here............ TR 31 Reagan 17.
This is the best week of practice I have EVER seen in a high school program. By the end of the week, it looked as if the TR Defense was in the scout teams huddle. The offense looked as if it was on auto pilot, gashing big play after big play. The offensive line looked OUTSTANDING ! Armstrong looks to be 100 %. Haywood (Jr), 2 year starter, has complete command of the Offense. The Defense looks READY !!
I think you will see the best TR has to offer Saturday night. :D
And yes I will be back out here to take my lumps if Reagan beats TR.

I know who you are talking about, but this guy was a volunteer at SV for 1 year. I know he was with Reagan in 06, but I am pretty sure he was gone in 07. As for learning SVs defense. That would be hard considering how much they change aspects of it from year to year. So I wouldn't say they run an exact SV D.

Actually he was a volunteer coach (paid teacher, but no pay for coaching) there for almost 2 years and worked mostly with the JV, but was up in the press box on Friday nights to hear the playcalling. He then went to Reagan as a DB coach.
The amazing thing was the guy was making a killing in pharmaceutical sales before getting his teaching certificate, and gave it all up because he wanted to teach and coach. He was a fast learner tough, but I agree he did not know EVERY aspect of the defense, as he was very green when it came to terminology of football his first year and had to start from scratch.
I do remember he was very energetic as a coach at SV.

SV is up 19-7 at half time. Mac started moving the ball well and scored on a 41 yard run by Clint Killough on the first drive. SV got an early score and really good movement. Two drives died in the red zone and ended in field goals. SV scored right at the half.
SV's defense is telling the story of the game so far. Really containing Killough. Reinhart is running really well today. 2nd half still to go, but SV has an early dominance.

Extra point by Taylor Cowart was good, SV-20; Mac-7 at the half.

30-7 final score. Mac just couldn't get it going after their first drive. Lots and lots of credit to the SV defense.

ya yall are probably right he didnt know EVERY aspect of the defense but he did teach what he knew to reagan and its from the SV D....from watching reagan play i can here them calling out the same things sv does on their defense as far as formations and audibles go.
didnt get to watch the game tonight sv must have played exceptionally well... my prediction was fairly close i believe i said 24-10.... idk how special teams played out....but the sv defense has played tremendous football the past few weeks and the offense is finally starting to click....great win for the rangers tonight.....gl to macarthur in the rest of their remaining district games hopefuly more...

Sv played very well-pretty much dominated every phase with the exception of the first drive.Offense ran the ball well and threw well when needed.SV Qb proved to be just as elusive as Killough from Mac.Had a 55 yard TD run called back for holding.More holding calls in this game than I have seen in a long time-both teams.SV special teams were there usual self-blocked field goal, punt returns and 3 solid field goals from Taylor Cowart.

Just found out that the last INT by TR was a drop. TR's Mikey Foster admits that the ball hit the ground and he trapped it.
Just wanted to say, "Sorry" to Rattler fans. But, it was a great game, all the same. :D
