Well looks like well be faceing Montery again this year. Funny becouse the first time we faced them was in week 0, when we beet them 37-14. And that the first time it was held at Shotwell (Abilene), and this time it well be held at Montery. It should be a really good game or rematch which ever way you may see it. Can't wait to beat yall again!

No use trying to get some smack going with Monty fans on this site Eagle fan. If SLC and Lufkin fans are the Alpha, Monty fans are the Omega. In other words, they are basically non-existent.

This is a win win for Carroll. If Abilene wins and so does Carroll then the "dream" rematch will take place. If Carroll and Monterey wins then Carroll would be able to choose the site because of the game in 2003.

It's a "dream" rematch for us to here in Abilene. And don't worry about Monterey becouse will take care of them. You guys just worry about beating Allen, and makeing it to shotwell to face us AGAIN. And then we can have our "dream" rematch. Funny but sad how two great teams have to meet eachother so early in the playoffs. Like last year this may deside the eventual State champion, and I would like to go through the best in the state or evan the nation to be considered the "champ". See you there. :D

Hopefully Carroll makes it and if they do then I will most definitely be there because it is probably the only game that I will be able to go to between last week and the championship

A couple of things to point out Eagles52. As we have seen this weekend, many favorites have been taken down. Coach Morton @ Monty is a great post-season coach and his teams get better as the season goes on. You might remember the 48 minutes of hell they gave SLC 3 years ago up in Lubbock. Yea, we beat them 37-14 earlier this year in Abilene but they are healthy and playing well right now. They will be loaded for bear as the saying goes- especially in front of the home folks.

I believe you are an actual player on the team aren't you? Please do not look past your next game. You guys have been on an incredible run starting with the Rockhurst game. You guys can play with anyone in the state right now. I truly believe that. Stay focused so that a possible rematch with SLC can actually take place. I have no doubt SLC will dispatch of their next opponent to set up the possible rematch. IF and I mean IF that game does take place, I wouldn't talk smack against a team that has only lost ONE game in 3 years. Just take that pearl of wisdom from an oldtimer and a former Eagle player! Do your talking on the field.

BTW, is there really a chance that that game would be in Abilene? I don't mind Texas stadium but I sure would like to stay home on Thanksgiving weekend. :)

Oh don't worry we well be focused next week in preperation for Monterey, becouse we always are.And yes I am an actual player. Coach Waren Couches us very well and reminds us and especially us seniors to keep focused and take it one game at a time, and to remind the younger guys of it. Sure a game with SLC would be great. but bielieve me we will be focused on Monterey. This team as a band of brothers will stand strong and hopefully win state. But we will take it one game at a time. And we woulden't of got this way if it weren't for great older mentiors like you, and everyone else who have showed us how to play this game right.

Ps. and yes if we hopefully do get to play southlake again it should be at Shotwell becouse last year it was at Texas stadium and based on UIL rules it should be our turn this year to choose the site and it would be smart for us to choose homefield advantage. :D

Little buddy I don't think you are correct in your thinking about the game having to be at Shotwell. I believe that Texas Stadium was a nuetral site even though it does seem like SLC's home field.

We will play them anywhere if we get the opportunity.

we were trying to figure it out on another thread and could not to a definite answer. I know that Carroll wore their away uniforms, but that does not necessarily mean that it was a neutral site. Hopefully we will see what happens.

I don't know if we will get to meet and I don't know if we can beat SLC even if we do but we would certainly like the opprotunity to try. If you are going to be the best you have to beat the best and you guys are the best till someone beats you. Stay healthy and take it to Allen. We will try to defeat Monterey in Lubbock.

If you get caught looking for SLC you will get that wishbone shoved down your throat all night in Lubbock! If I remember right Monterey has bumped Abilene and Cooper out of the playoffs over the last 5 yrs.

Yep, abilene teams always win the first time around. Playoffs roll around and it is completely different. Abilne put up around 50 on us in 04, then lost to a stout desoto team that Monty beat. The year before that abilene got the ball shoved down there throat by the same play for 3 quarters and lost that one too.

In the last 10 years Abilene is 10-0 vs LMHS in the regular season, but only 1-2 in the post season

Sorry friend but if your going to talk smack, then you should be smarter with it. Abilene High has never lost to De Soto in the playoffs. The year we punked you guys with 50 points,(I am assuming you meant 03 not 04 but we did it BOTH years) we lost to a good Irving team who then lost a close game to SLC--not Lubbock Monty. :) Monty has seemed to have Abilene's number in the playoffs recently, but in actuallity they are 1-2 against them... the reason it seems so much in Monty's favor (even to myself) is because Abilene High was the heavy favorite all three times we faced them. I just hope that the team does in fact stay focused.

How large is Shotwell? I have a vague recollection of thinking it was a very small playoff-venue back when the Dragons played Cooper there in 02.

Woops, you are right. It's been a couple years since i was involved in all this haha. Either way coming off a 73 point wishbone performance (i am still trying to figure that one out myself) Monterey is definately going to be in top form for this saturday.

If you want the quick answer its "standard" capacity is almost 16K, but has been streched to hold almost 19K. Im surprised you think of it being so small; I was at that Cooper game and while you guys did a great job of filling your side, the stadium was no where near sold out. :)

Thanks for the answer...actually I was referring to the home side it looked completely packed I couldn't really tell how many vacant seats were on our side. But didn't they say the Abilene/SLC game last year drew 25k+?

You can bet Monty will be stoked for this one. Besides superior coaching they run that triple option offense that we don't see that often. To make it worse, we have to play them in their backyard. However, Abilene is playing like they are possessed right now. If they play Friday anywhere close to the level they have been playing they will win this one by 17 points or so IMHO.

All I can say is Abilene better not take Monty lightly, if they scored 73 points on anybody, you better take them Seriously. I've been there when we beat them in the first game of the year then they made us look bad in the play offs. Please do not look a head to SLC till you beat Monty! you know they are laying for us, I know we are playing good ball right now but looking a head will get you beat. Take it one game at a time.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! Beat Monty!

Eagle fans, there is reason for concern when you take on Lubbock Monterey in the playoffs. They start out slow year after year and year after year they manage to make the playoffs and they always are a much better team in the playoffs. We always manage to whack those guys early in the season but we have only beat them once in three tries in the playoffs.

We played them game one this season and we beat them in Abilene 37 to 14. As I recall, their QB was injured and did not play in our game. I think I remember right that they rotated a couple young guys at the qb position of which neither had played varsity ball before. I am not sure that is how it was but that is the way I remember it.

True, it was also the first game for the Eagles. We were still searching for our identity and we are a vastly improved team today going into the 12th game of the season. That night the Eagle Dentist gave up 226 yards on the ground to Monty who ran the ball 41 times. They tried throwing the ball 12 times for three completions for 29 yards and their leading receiver that night was "Sunshine" Powell who plays for us. He had 2 interceptions that night.

Abilene High was able to win that night because we got up on Monty early. We were ahaed 7-0 at the end of the first and built that lead to 21-0 in the 2nd quarter and led 27-7 at the half. Were were scoreless in the third and out scored them 10-7 in the 4th quarter for a 37-14 final.

The point to all this is Monty is healthy now and they won't change their offense for God or the Eagles. They will come out running and they will be running at the end of the game. The Eagle D will have to stop that running game. If Monty gets a quick lead and we can't stop the ground game, the Eagles are in for a long night, On the other hand if we go up 14 or 21 points like the first game, we will be playing a game 13 against somebody. The concern is the Monty Rushing game. The Eagles have a good run defense. Midland High has a good run defense and they lost 28-24 to Monty in Lubbock close to the start of district play. I don't say that to try to scare anyone but to remind everyone that Monty deserves the Eagles fullest attention and respect.

eagleii, this was covered on post #7 on this topic. I don't think we have to worry about coach Warren letting these guys look past Monty. These current players have never lost to Monty but this coaching staff has. They will be reminded daily of the danger of overlooking them.

The Warbirds are already plotting their course to Waco.....I believe it is an inconvenience for them to have to play you. Would you like to just give them the victory so they can focus on SLC?? I say not!!!!!
