Overall Breakdown:
The stats are farely even, considering Spring Westfield has only played 9 games, while North Shore has played 11. Combined, there will be nearly 20 solid D1 College Prospects on the field Friday night and that makes for a very athletic contest. It will be speed vs speed, playmaker vs playmaker! Though North Shore holds a definite edge in size, Westfield holds more experience.

Prediction:

SPRING WESTFIELD 28
GP NORTH SHORE 24

Goodluck to both programs, for this looks to be one for the ages!!!

NS holds more experience as well from the previous season....

I respect your opinion, however I think the QB and RB positions are the two most important positions on the field...and Westfield's Pierce and Sweeney are better, IMO.

I tell you what though, NS has very solid depth, they're gonna be a hoss next year, as well.

It's just a gut feeling to pick WF over NS!

especially since they will be at home.

North Shore will win by 7 points. By the way Pearlanders- you have a team to be
proud of. Whitaker did not do much due to Shore's D but from what I could see,
he is a fine running back and any coach in high school would love to have had him on his team.

Gonna come down to turnovers and big plays. Both teams have solid defenses and explosive offenses. What can you say? Lots of speed and very hardhitters. Field position will be at a premium. Can't wait til Fri.

Pearland had a single weapon where Westfield has many and has the confidence of knowing that the same team that beat you last year is back and loaded with senior talent. I just don't get why this seems to be more of a big deal than last years match.

It is a bigger deal for a couple of reasons. North Shore is a better team this year and will be playing at home. Last years game put Westfield on the map as well as making it to the state championship game. This year you must admit that SW is more well known than last year and have basically obliterated all the competition. NS has dominated every game except THW which was played at their place and the motivation was clearly on their side. Their coaches stated that their first game they played lousy and they came out all fired up for the Shore. Last years game provides special motivation for NS, who simply fell prey to what they do to everybody else last year. At the beginning of the year I felt noone would be able to handle Westfield this year but after watching this NS team mature throughout the season and gather some depth on offense, this should be a terrific game. It is also obvious to me ( opinion only ) that the winner of this game has a clear path to the Championship!!! Nobody can be taken lightly but I just don't see anyone left that is scary so to speak...

Well, have you been to see NS this year? 'Cus uhh, they look just a little better than last year! (plenty of pun intended)

I've seen both teams play this year - actually within the last two weeks, and I must say I'm giving Westfield the slight edge, but it could honestly go either way!

Both of them are very....very, good programs, this year!!!

You better tell somebody - or anybody at Westfield - not to think of this NS team as the team they beat last year! It's much better!

I'm sure the Westfield coach will instill the importance, though! They'd be crazy not to!

I know every year is different. But one factor is that Northshore has not lost a home game since 1998. That's seven seasons. I also believe last year Northshore was surprised by Westfield. I think this year Westfield is the favorite(no surprise) and Northshore will be the underdog. But I am hoping and betting there's a lot of fight in that dog.
It is going to be THE EVENT of the week here in Houston.
The Pearland game got the mo rollin for the SHO. Go NS Mustangs!

Good explaination and you're at least partly right, the game will be good, you guys have improved and it's at GPISD. However, Westfield hasn't stood still either with tons of experience and probably doesn't care whos field they play on. I agree that it should be a great game... since Go Stangs is generic now I'll revert to Go Westfield!

Remember, it's the same Westfield team as last year only more experienced.

just get there early. I know the Katy freeeway sucks in the afternoon. Well, all day for that matter, but this one will remind you of Forest Brook vs. Kashmere in the Dome back in the 70s. Speed and talent all over the place and community rivalry. Sorry, the halftime will suck.

its all about teams gaining experience and jelling together... last year NS was good.. but not state calibur material..... just as the year prior to the state championship... NS matured over that year to 2003, they jelled and the maturity showed.... last year.. i think pearland took a whole lot out of them... and they were already going downhill and westfield finished them off.... NS was good... but not great... in any facet of the game.... this year however... mostly the same team as well.. but you can see the difference in last year and this year.... this year they are dominating just as in 2003 and more importantly.....the defense is ALOT better this year than last... its ok if you guys have the same team.. thats all great.. and the reason u are dominating this year.. but NS is relatively the same.. except they have some young playmakers mixing with experienced veterans and they have come together very nicely... very good....surprisingly good.... they can hang with anyone... i think this game is a toss up....

too playa, I'll have to agree with you. Ns has closed the gap on WF. I've seen both of these teams. WF hasn't looked that sharp at times. Maybe they were bored or something. They allowed Humble to much hope a week ago, even though they pulled away in 2nd half. If at least 1 player would've stepped up to help the qb & rb, that game would've closer. But as you can see with their game vs. Westside they should be had by a dominate team. Last year's WF would've easily put up 60 or 70 against that team.

For starters both teams have four opponents in the playoffs; for Northshore three have lost in the first round and for Westfield only one is out in the first round. The most notable would be the Woodlands that almost beat Northshore 6-7 and lost to A&M in the first round 12-30.

Opponents exiting in Round 1 are Woodlands, Hastings, Deer Park and Memorial.
Opponents going to Round 2 are La Porte, Cy Falls, Beaumont WB and Humble.

I agree with Lonny and Pearland1. NS is playing a bit better plus they also have a better defense from when I've seen both of them play. It's in NS's house plus the team with the better defense usually prevails.
It should still be a close and entertaining game. Definitely the game of the year in Region 3.

T Sweeney didn't play the Humble game and D Stewart stepped up and Beasley went to the passing game. M Ridge and D Stewart didn't play the Lamar game and Sweeney took the first half and T Jones took the second half dominating on the ground.

No matter what happens this Friday, Shore will have 35 returning players off this team for next year. Aymond keeps the warehouse full. And yes, this years' Shore is a diferent mind set than last years. I still say Shore by 7. Westfield is a loaded team and they are good but NS will be prepared. it will come down to who wants it the most and Shore has the home field advantage also.

That home field may actually be a liability because everyone knows that no streak can last forever...Northshore will lose at home sooner or later, it's inevitable! The longer the streak the closer the loss. We may be as close as a few days until Northshore has its first loss at home.

WOW, they put up numbers like...like...Schertz Clemens! :p Have to go NS at home!

Ya...but there's a difference in numbers.

For example Schertz Clemens schedule went like this.....

Aug. 26, 2005 WACO W 21-0
Sep. 2, 2005 SAN ANTONIO ROOSEVELT W 15-3
Sep. 9, 2005 AT TAYLOR W 44-6
Sep. 15, 2005 AT AUSTIN HIGH W 30-7
Sep. 22, 2005 AT SAN ANTONIO HIGHLANDS W 62-10
Sep. 30, 2005 SAN ANTONIO JEFFERSON W 55-0
Oct. 14, 2005 AT SAN ANTONIO SOUTHWEST W 49-0
Oct. 21, 2005 SAN MARCOS W 34-24
Oct. 28, 2005 AT SAN ANTONIO EAST CENTRAL W 42-13
Nov. 4, 2005 SEGUIN W 22-13
Nov. 11, 2005 SAN ANTONIO MADISON L 19-42

And they did force 393 pts while giving up 118.

However, none of the teams they faced are still in the playoffs. Yes, they faced 5 teams that went .500 for the year (2 had 5-5 records), but the top 3 representatives for your district were ousted in the first round by a total of 105-33. While 4 teams that Westfield (Humble, West Brook and Cy Falls) and North Shore (La Porte) faced are still alive in the playoffs. Humble and West Brook are the other 2 representatives from Westfield's district!

I think numbers help put things in perspective.

I'm going to put it in perspective for you. Katy, North Shore, and Westfield have great teams. For the most part, Region 3 stinks, but since Houston owns the whole region, some of those teams had to win because they were playing other average teams.

None of these teams are better than any of the 3 26-5A teams:
Cy Falls
H Memorial
B West Brook
Humble
H Lamar
A Hastings
T Woodlands
La Porte
D Park
Pearland

I went and got my tickets early. I usually don't have to buy them, but this game I did not want to take a chance. I was talking to a couple of the coaches and they said this crowd would be the biggest they have had at the 4 year old stadium. Last week the Pearland game filled it up. This week it will be standing room only. I sat with a couple last week and the guy was from New York. He was on vacation and had come to Texas to watch high school football. He was blown away by the whole event and the game itself. Pearland played their hearts out and their band has to be one of the best in state. Northshore played their best game of the season, and the couple left happy and impressed. I hope they come back this week and bring us some luck.

After seeing the Westfield/Humble district champ game, I was disappointed in Westfield. I was expecting to see a real machine on the field with a bunch of run and catch crazy athletes. Their defense was not the best for sure. Beat Humble because Humble committed too many penalties and stupid mistakes. I have to give this one to NS even though I picked SW to win state in DI. North Shores defense is their biggest asset. Same as when they won their last state title.

Yes you have to buy season tickets in order to buy the parking pass I believe. Though I don't think they matter come playoff time, its first come first serve then. Good to know they are opening the gates at 5:30, as I'm sure there will be more at this one than there was at last week's game.

I have to agree with 03 on this one. If your going to rely on Sweeney, its going to be a long night. Without a passing game you won't beat NS and Whittaker is a waaay better back than Sweeney.

The stat I noticed is that Westfield gave up alot of passing yards to West Brook and that QB is just not all that. I base this on his passing skills he displayed against Madison which were just plain terrible (no spirals, in the dirt and lots of over throws and yes he had plenty of time to throw). Granted you won but he still put up over 297 yards passing against your "D". West Brook's receiving core couldn't hold a candle to North Shores. I believe Shore is going to return the favor you dished them last season.

That said, this is one game I won't miss. :D

Unlike Pearland, in addition to Sweeney we have Stewart, Jones and Co.
I have seen every Westfield game for the last several years and this offense this year is the least predictable yet. They adjust extemely well to those they've faced so far. Northshores defense may have what it takes to stop the ever changing offense of Westfield but we'll all see on Friday.

Does the GPISD replay board replay all big plays, every down or just the ones that are positive for Northshore (call it home field advantage)?

Stangsfan, that's actually a good question, one that I really can't answer. I have had the same reserved seats for the 4 years since GPISD stadium was opened, and I honestly can't tell you if they do show the big plays for both teams. This is going to sound like a lie, but in those 4 years, I really can't remember a team having a big play against Northshore at GPISD. We haven't lost there in those 4 years, so draw your own conclusions. Last week, in the Pearland game, the 2 passes for touchdowns by Pearland, I don't think those were shown on the big screen, but I could be wrong.

But, I think you need worry about making plays that would even be considered for the board, before you worry if they are going to be shown on it or not. Good luck, but I hope your season ends this coming Friday night.

Go Northshore

Well I sit in the replay booth and I can tell you that a big play against us does not usually get shown. Hence that home field advantage thing!! There are a few different people that run the replays and they differ from game to game in what they show. It is fun sitting up there though. There will be three cameras, one of which is roaming. But the replays can only be shown on the big screen from the camera set up on the film deck. The others can be shown on the concourse and up in the superintendents suite. Can't wait till friday, it is going to be fun!!!

What I meant by that is that Whittaker may have the better NUMBERS...But Sweeny has done more. Until Pearland gets over the one and done playoff thing...I can't say Whittaker is the better back. I've seen both play...Whittaker is a good back, but when you see Sweeny take the handoff....you hold your breath everytime. My opinion is that Sweeny is the better back.

Thanks for the great operations info about an obviously impressive stadium! Will the roof be open or closed?

Anyone that has access to tickets or has an extra ticket want to get me one? I would be willing to pay double the value of the ticket if you can. I just don't know if I want to drive across Houston on a Friday to not get to see the game. I will support whichever team the ticket provider is from. :)

I am asking because i have two extra tickets that were not used for the pearland game..... and was wondering if they could be used for this fridays game... well... i dont need them.. or gonna use them... but if they are the same.. ill give them away

I think that Westfield has a slight edge in that I believe they can have sustained drives that will eat up a lot of clock. NS can score quickly, but they can't play catch up all night without a turnorver here or there and Westfield eating up more clock. If NS gets up early, it will cause Westfield to play catch up and somewhat get them out of their game plan and do things they would prefer not to do. NS defense is better this year. As far as a prediction, the game is too close to call. Just gald I can be there.

thats a pretty fair assessment... although with NS's big offensive line.. i think they will be able to sustain drives as well... this very well could be a defensive battle very low scoring...or it could be an offensive race to the finish... however.. my gut feeling is that it will be relatively low scoring.. and my pick will be NS 28 -WF 21

I think that whoever gets the early lead will win this one cause neither team is really good at playing catch up. Happened to ns last year werent used to being down and just gave up. Although NS did have to play catch up with the woodlands so i dont know

I think this Northshore team is mentally tougher than last year. They're going to have to be their toughest friday nite. I'm getting fired up. It could be a great one!

As of 5pm today. NS had 100 home tickets left for sale. Westfield will have more than that available. Standing Room only goes on sale at 6:30pm. Get there early, don't get caught in traffic around the stadium.

Oh man was I lucky. I went to go buy more tickets today at the athletic office and there was only 3 left after I bought mine. I asked the lady....is that it? She said YUP, We're sold OUT!

Both NS campuses should have a few more left. Other than that....standing tickets will be sold or none at at all.

Anyone ready for some football? Clash of the Titans style?

It's supposed to be 49 degrees at kickoff, so everyone dress warm!

I have to tip my hat to Westfield, they played an exellent game. It was extreamly close though most of the game, but westfield pulled out that "thing" at the end to help seal the victory. I wish Westfield well on their road to state.

Peace!
