Neither team plays any defense and both teams can score at will.

Well, Madison has the offense to put up 80 points. But their defense has really improved over the past few games.
And MacArthur has allowed a grand total of 7 points in three games. So, I disagree somewhat.

Shooter, what are you drinking???
Madison plays no defense? Puhleez.
Check out stats on www.maxpreps.com (http://www.maxpreps.com) - Madison has several leaders in the state/Region IV: Kris Catlin, Tyler James, Joey Montero, Brandon Baxter.
(Didn't see anyone from Mac ranked in the defensive stats.)
Obviously, you're now a Johnson fan.

The teams who have been able to score on Madison have a passing game. Mac has got one helluva passing game again this year, so I doubt Madison will be able to hold them to less than 3 scores. Even Johnson was able to gain quite a bit of yardage through the air. (on Madison's 2nd and 3rd team defenses though) Mac definitely won't be able to stop Madison from scoring. They might have been able to hold Johnson, Taft, and Marshall from reaching the endzone, but everyone knows Madison is not Johnson, Taft, or Marshall.

Lol, I know what you mean. Madison will be the best defense MacArthur has faced so far. That's not saying a whole lot for Marshall, Taft, and Johnson. I think Mac will get their points, but Madison has shown the past two weeks that we can play defense. And if push comes to shove, there's always the Tivy route! Sometimes the best defense really is a good offense.
Bottomline

Marshall, Taft and Johnson are all teams that are rebuilding and in Johnsons case, they are starting from scratch. None are in the Top 10 but somehow Mac gets rated higher than Judson in the recent Local newspaper ratings ? If Mac comes out and plays the first half like they did against Johnson, they may be in for a LONG night.

i have seen TIVY and MAC and TIVY pass offence is head and shoulders better than MAC.
Madison will have a problem with the SIZE of the Mac receivers and will get a taste of a QB that can run the ball very well. But this game might come down to who has actually played "playoff caliber opponents" and who has played Taft and Marshall.
i think Mac gets exposed for it's small lines on both sides of the ball, and I think the Soph QB (while very Good) will feel a little more heat than what he has felt the last few weeks. We will have to see how he performs under pressure.

Shooter, you've made some good points but as far as size, O'Connors three WR's are 6ft 1 6ft and 6ft2 ... What may hurt Mac is the lack of speed at the WR spot. Their sophmore TE may have a hard time beating Catlin to the flats. I don't think he's any faster than the Mav defensive front. Their young QB may give them problems running the ball but with Catlin, James, Green and their other safety, he may be feeling some hits that he hasn't felt yet in this young season. That QB has a nice future ahead of him and Fuchak has shown alot of confidence in him already. I'm looking forward to a great ball game because when it's Madison against Mac or Roosevelt, those three really get after it regardless of their records or rankings.

Hope you're right, God knows I do. It would really solidify my hopes for a 2nd district championship in a row. That being said, I've seen Mac way too much over the years to think this will be a blowout. Doesn't matter if either team is doing all that well, the M&M bowl is one we all get up for. Over the past few years we've been trading wins back and forth...but like I said, I'm hoping for a rout.:D

Also making it an interesting game is that some of the guys from Madison and Mac played together at Driscoll Middle School. It will be fun (maybe) to see them lining up against each other.

Madison without much trouble. It's still early in the season and Madison traditionally playes well at this time of the year. Mac has done well on defense so far but hasn't played quality offenses yet. Madison is clicking on all cylinders and their defense will provide enough quality play to halt Mac.

Doesn't really matter. If Madison wants some player ANYWHERE in the NEISD, it's a whole lot easier to sign them up in their magnet program than any other school. Let's see, would an athlete traditionally be more interested in math, science, arts, etc. or agriculture?
The rest of the district should be happy Madison doesn't recruit. They'd definitely have a leg up on the rest of the district.

Let them be pissed..they are only pissed right now cause they have a less then stellar season going. If they were undefeated right now, you wouldnt hear a word about the Green's. Judson is a great team with a great tradition, however if things are not perfect you get a lot of whinning about why it doesn't work and who should be here and who shouldnt? Why not just say, maybe this is not our best team and not going to be a great year..however you won't hear to much after they make a long run in the playoffs again this year. I guess if you feel they have a right to be pissed, then why not madison getting the right to 4 starters from Mac.

Madison does have that right.I have been on this board since 2005 and every year this issue comes up no matter how the season is going for Judson. And all of the Judson posters are blaming this season on everything but there lack at running back. The truth is the Judson running back this year is the bright spot on the team right now because he is pretty decent.I see more whining them not having a stadium, passing game and bad coaching. Not about not having the greens.

I definitely care about the rules and I'm glad the UIL was created for this purpose -- to hold everyone accountable. But kids switch to different schools all the time for lots of programs, especially volleyball!! I've heard way too many stories about recruiting going on there!
I think the point being made was: it's been said, it's been talked about, it's gonna happen, so let's quit harping on it, and just play football. Let the boys play where they want to play, especially if they have abided by the rules set forth.
My comment about the boys leaving Madison to go to Mac was more questioning WHY would they leave Madison?

Is the UIL rule 'you cannot go to a school for athletic purposes' therefore you are punished by not being allowed to play varsity first year? Or is the rule, 'IF you go to a school for athletic purposes, you must sit out the first year', as a deterrent to transferring?
Just curious if anyone actually knows the exact rule.
And yes, thank you, I'm not a hypocrite. At least I don't think so! I'm pretty much a by the books person. I am not wishing the Mac boys were back at Madison, just curious why they left? Was it for athletics or other reasons? It's not really our business, when it comes down to it, as long as it was legal and by the rules. Just the family's business.

Is this true? Either way, that is awful. After watching Johnson play 3 games now, they have to be the least talented team I've seen in a while. They're coached well, but the lack of pure talent is truly staggering.
p.s. someone needs to sit down with whoever that lady is in the Johnson reserved section and teach her the game. if you have ever sat in the Johnson reserved section, you know who i'm talking about. she's the lady that everyone stares at as she screams profanities on to the field while making herself look like a complete idiot for arguing the wrong calls... yeah, her. Really? I mean, nobody likes seeing the offense shoot itself in the foot against a first year team but the defense was still on its game and Mac had control by halftime. Which, considering Johnson, IS a little late, but the game really wasn't all that competitive...
I would love to see Mac somehow pull this one off, especially heading into the buzzsaw at SV next week, but a lot of error has to come from Madison as well.

Whoa, I had some bad info! Thought I read that the Mac/Johnson game was nearly tied at the half. In any case, Madison had 13 penalties for 129 yards against Johnson...talk about shooting yourself in the foot. 3 touchdowns called back...in the first half! Still it was 41-0 at the beginning of the 3rd.
Mac will definitely be better than Johsnon, no shock there. But Madison is lightyears ahead of anyone Mac has played thusfar. Madison by 21.

Didn't you originally pick Madison by 14? :D
As for Mac/Johnson, the only reason the game was so "close" at halftime was because a) Mac had a punt blocked for recovered in the endzone for a touchdown and b) The offense didn't light up the first quarter like they had against Marshall and Taft. Needless to say, the game was still over at halftime.
I think Madison will win, but something tells me it won't be another Aaron Green show. I think Madison will have to show more versatility on offense (like against NB) to really come out of this one.

Agreed. But unlike in the NB game, I think Aaron Green will score a TD or two. I'm not sure what the offensive sets were for Taft and Mashall, but Mac was sure able to defend it. I saw Mac/Johnson and i saw Madison/Johnson I will see Mac/Madison tomorrow.
The one thing I will say is that trying to compare the Ms against Johnson as a common opponent is not going to predict you a winner Mac slept walked through the first half and the WRs dropped a lot of balls. Madison came out firing out of the gate against Johnson and while some said Rittimann would have a chance because he knew the Madison playbook, i think it was the other way around. Streety knew exactly what Rittimann was going to do and when he was going to do it. Johnson actually had a decent second half against the reserves of Madison. Johnson had 3 drives in the second half resulting in two TDs and a TOD. One of those drives went 89 yards on 24 plays.
Talent wise Madison is head and shoulders over Mac right now. Mac is playing way above their heads in terms of their size a speed. For Mac to win they are going to have to test the DBs deep as that is where Johnson had some success. Mac will also have to limit the amount of touches Madison has on offence. That may mean an onside kick or a fake punt but somewhere they need to burn some clock and hold the ball up. For Madison to win they need to hand the ball off to Aaron Green and not get to fancy. Madison has a tendency to make some really bone-head decisions in big games. Not sure if this constitutes a big game but the winner is in the drivers seat for a district title game with Reagan. Should be fun to watch either side of the Comalander you are sitting.

You're good at this football stuff.:notworthy That's a really good assessment. Madison smashed Johnson, then took a vacation in the 2nd half. Mac was there in the first half, but still yawning from the bus ride over to Commalander.
The bonehead plays have been plentiful over the years. Not so much last year, Rittiman really seemed to settle down in the play calling. And Mangold is anything but antsy with the playbook. So, I look for it to be a well called game on both sides of the ball. I really think the more talented team will come out on top. But, you never know. Rivalry is just that. Hard to predict what will happen in a game like this.
On a side note, the whole Rittiman/Streety knowing eachother's plays thing... I heard this a lot during the off season. But it doesn't ever seem to hold much water. Seems like the coaches in 265a have been coaching against eachother for so long, there probably aren't many surprises left. Most of the time I think it comes down to, you know what's coming but you just can't stop it. Just my opinion.

Shooter, the winner of this game still has a LONG way to go. Both still have to play SV, Reagan, and Roosevelt. Mac still has to line up against NB.

Greens can go to Madison. That's fine. They will never win a state title or play for a state title while in Mav land. Mavs have outstanding talent and will do well each year. And there is nothing wrong with the number of teams in San Antonio area to be considered the 3rd or 4th best program over the last 10-25 years. Can the Mavs go undefeated this year? Good possibility, but they still have to play the other 3 top teams in district.

That's important. Three other top teams! God, I love this district and hate it at the same time. Even better/worse when Judson was with us. 6 teams who have a shot at the district title right now, I mean My God!:notworthy:eek: One thing is for sure, this one won't be over till its over.

Let's just go by numbers...the years that Judson won the state tourney? did they not have the most enrollment in the district? goes to figure that if you have the most to choose from the more possible talent you might have? how many times has judson won state since the split to wagner?????just curious to know the number

So by your logic Madison should be state champions this year due to the fact they are the only team with over 3,000 students in their school this year.

Numbers don't mean alot-it's the program that makes the difference regardless of the numbers. If so Plano would have won 20 state titles. They have split 2 times and still have 5000 students.Kerville Tivy has 1400 students and competed with some pretty good 5A teams!Where huge numbers tend to make a consistent impact is in all of the other UIL sports and activities.

None, but they have made it to THE SHOW two more times than the Mavs since the split. Answer to your earlier question about the most enrollment is no for the 1st 3 championships.

Looks like a lock to me because of that logic.

Don't forget to add Plano East, Plano West, LaJoya, Alief Elsik, Alief Hastings, Dallas Skyline, etc. and Reagan from last year. SLC has made that logic a shambles.

Really was a great game tonight. Officiating was a little... But a good game nonetheless. Had some key injuries on defense, where Madison needed injuries the most. But nothing looked too awful.
Aaron Green is not the Madison offense. I'm really proud of Leo Gutierrez and our corps of receivers. Fantastic job tonight!! Troy Williams also did very well and how about Askewsquatch putting on the jets for the kick returns!?! Troy Lara came up with a "Thank you, I'll take that" runback off an errant option pitch. Oh, and Aaron Green...182 yards on the ground and another TD pass to cap things off.
Mac looked really good. Oak tree receivers. My God! How tall were those guys. Mac's sophomore QB will be making a name for himself for the next three years. What a cannon! Mac needs a run game, but again the QB filled that position quite well. Good defense too. Mac won't be pitching many more shutouts, but their D can compete with pretty much everyone in 265a.
Great Game!!

I mean no disrespect, but I must disagree totally with that statement. I too went to the game. Without the ball off the hands of the Madison reciever that turned in to the INT, I would say Mac's D wasn't all that impressive. IMO.
I mean 47 points, with at least another 16 points left out on the field, not really a sign of a D that can hang with the big boys. IMO

Could be right. What I saw was a fundamentally sound defensive scheme that was overpowered by a high octaine offense. But then again with Reagan, SV, TR, and NB left to play, it remains to be seen.

Oh no, the scheme was nice, but the execution was flawed. In the paper tomorrow, check 3rd downs in the box score, you'll see what I mean. Madison is a great Offensive team, no doubt. Mac didn't have any answers.
If a team has a running back, they stack the box to stop that one player. Once a team has to commit the extra player to the box to stop the run, a team with an OK passing game will score in the high 20's, low 30's, against them. Every team they have played up to the Mavs, have been either one or the other, pass or run, not both.
That's where the low scores come from, once they met a team that could do both..... well, 47 points, enough said. :D

Yes the photo would have been that much sweeter if Deiorio would have caught the ball. Guess that's why he plays defense.

Great Game!!
Indeed a very good game. I thought Mac was going to make it VERY interesting when Killough scored on what appeared to be a broken pass play to cut Madison's lead to 34-28 in the third quarter.
BUT this is where Mac showed its weaknesses. The defensive scheme works, they need to stick to it. However, the execution was not there last night. They gave up WAY too many big 3rd down conversions (especially in the third quarter, when Madison faced a self-imposed 3rd and 21 with Mac gaining momentum, and Mac gave up a 1st down ON THE GROUND.)
Mac needs to find a running game for sure. The receivers did a solid job last night, and Clint handled the offense well. Final score was not totally indicative of the game itself.
What impressed me about Madison is that they found a more balanced offensive attack (which I thought was going to be necessary to put Mac away) and they did so outstandingly.
Mac needs to take this loss in stride and understand that they played hard against a phenomenal Madison team. Before they take on SV, they need to stop with all the excessive penalties. I thought the officiating last night was questionable, but admit that Mac was undisciplined at times. That will kill them against SV, Reagan, and NB.
SO Mac showed they can fight against the district's best as long as they keep their heads in the game and don't give up penalty yardage or big plays on key downs. If they use this loss as a wake-up call, they should still contend for a playoff berth.
