Who wins. During the Moss era the Colonels went 3-3. After a slow start, it seems the Colonels put things together against Jesuit. The Owls are on a roll. Ought to be a great week. Looking forward to Thursday night.

Nothing that has happened up to now will matter this thursday. these kids all know each other, have played each other since elementary school, and each team wants to win BAD.

I think Garland, in the end, just has more than the Colonels this year and will win by 7 - but it'll be a tough fight all the way (unlike last year)...

I remember the good old days when Homer would not allow Garland vs South to be played on Thursday nights....

Wonder if the Bellguards will be up at school guarding campus Wednesday night? I remember the days of catching SG kids spray paint the school and field.

You just can't talk about SG without ragging on the South Garland fans. When will you ever let go. There will be more South fans at this year's game than there were Owl fans at last years. (This post ought to stir the pot. :D)

I agree with you. I was really upset last spring when I found out it was on a Thursday. However, now I am realy glad. I must be out of town Friday night. Now I can go.

I agree with you. I was really upset last spring when I found out it was on a Thursday. However, now I am realy glad. I must be out of town Friday night. Now I can go.

from what i understand, it went down something like this:

Garland, Sachse and Naaman all have home games this week. Naaman wanted to play at HBJ. Both Garland and Sachse wanted Williams (Garland doesnt like to play home games at HBJ if they can help it - especially agaisnt the Colonels). So they flipped for Friday and Thursday, and Sachse won.

I agree with ya'll that it stinks to have this game on a thursday - only good thing is that it may cut down on the shenanigans during the week...

Three wonderful young ladies who are in my youth group are Southern Belles this year. I would like to ask that all my fellow Garland fans show great class and respect to them as they perform toward our side this Thursday night - stand up and cheer for them, and show everyone that we can be rivals without being enemies. Thanks...

From what I have seen of both teams, I think Garland will win by 14 or more. But this is a special situation and anything can happen. I think at least 40 Garland players will see action. The Owls have put together twelve strong qtrs. and twelve bad ones, in the last three games, so we shall see. Garland will win at least five games this year:notworthy

We only rag on them because they deserve it.

There probably will be more South fans there than Garland fans last year....we can always count on South fans to turn up at the Garland game....when the football gods serve up the big dog (Garland) you can count on the hounds to show up at the feast, like flies on a cow turd.....but where do they go the weeks before and the weeks after.....tea parties.....clubing......dinner dates....cigar parties.....poker......Tupperware parties......lingerie parties......worse parties .........

.......where are they the other games.......

.......can't interrupt the old social calendar to support the kids more than once or twice a season, right.....;)

I take it you are a underground Naaman fan. Hey Naaman is the underdog and will be for a while. Nothing like the storied past of a Garland. I would be willing to bet by the time Naaman plays Garland this year Naaman will be listed as the underdog considering neither loses a game. It's like picking against a 45 year old Michael Jordan...you know he still has it somewhere, lol.

From a Naaman fan point of view: South will improve but it's too early to play a team like Garland right now. Garland is on a roll. Garland by 21

Well.....I always cheer for Garland teams.....just as long as they aren't playing Garland.....:D

I was really just being sarcastic about South fans....their team is down, so I was just saying maybe thay were cheering for Naaman so they could follow a winner this year....a winner other than Garland....:D

Man...I don't see Naaman as an underdog to Garland....you guys have a nice team and I think most everybody thinks they are better that Garland....and I agree at this point.

We have the potential to be really good....we'll see how it goes...looking forward to our game later this year....;)

Should be a good one...I'm noticing more and more that your offense is quick strike and that means Naaman will need to keep the ball out of your hands as much as possible.

Back to this weeks game though, you guys are probably playing against one of the better secondary units this week...its just not much more help for them after that though. I think they changed up the offense as well. I have to say it has worked wonders for you guys. I'm thinking South went with a more traditional run offense??? is that right?

Coach Wright is a run first coach, and he is wanting to install a running offense at South. They have the athletes for it: big linemen, good backs, etc. They had some success against Jesuit, but its too soon to tell if that means they are starting to "get it". Garland can be run on (which scares me when I think of our game vs Naaman in 5 weeks), so if they can get the run game going, they have a chance to keep the game close. I think Garland will try to establish a running game before they start testing that Colonel secondary...

Rivalry? Rivalry? What Rivalry? After that dressing down the hoots took last year I can't believe you think it's a rivalry!! The hooties didn't play like it was a rivalry last year!! I'm still waiting for you boys to come on here and give me my props... I've been saying for the last 6 or 7 years, if the hooties would take advantage of athletes and spread it out, become a "little" creative, well, we see what has happened... All of a sudden all you dust mite wearing, cobweb collecting wing-t guys have shut up and realized the great Rough was right!! And yes, still pulling for the Colonels and yes, also the HAWKS!! The hurricanes have kept my communications in check and with that big ole slab of a daughter graduated and the tuba in storage, I've not been as active as needed!! I'm back!!

There are a lot of changes this year for South. They lost alot on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. There is a new coaching staff with a new philosophy, and the staff is just getting to know the players and what they can do. Because Farmersville would not release Wright's staff, there was no spring ball.

The first two games were really rough for South and then things really happened against Jesuit which tells us something but I am not sure how much. Everything on paper says this is an Owls year. Motivation must really be strong for the Owls after last years big loss in a shortened game. (BTW, why did the officials start a running clock in the 3rd Quarter last year?) However, this year for the Colonels could be alot like three years ago when South looked pretty weak in non-district and then put things together in a close loss to a very good Rowlett team to open district, lost to Garland, then went three rounds in the playoffs.

I voted for the Colonels; but they do have an uphill battle. I hope the Colonels keep improving and are stronger when they play in November than their last game in September.

that dusty old wing-t hybrid they were running was good enough to get them to the state semis, but yes, it was time for a change, and it has worked, so far. still a lot of work to be done, and these guys will get a lot better, i think.

how do you feel about SG going away from the spread into a more conservative, run first type of offense? and, will the mighty Hawks open it up this week? (I like the Hawks, too, by the way - they and Forney may become my 4A teams to watch once the playoffs roll around)...

i'm already on record saying that the coaching change and change in scheme will, in the long run, be a positive thing at SG. however, i thought the transition could be a little tough. this week, however, i expect sg to come out and play their best game of the season so far...

Here we go again......past,past,past.... Yes, in the PAST the wing-t was IT... But we are looking to the future and finally the hooties are catching up.. Now instead of trap being the 3rd and 12 or even 4th and long play to call, they've got a whole play selection to draw from.... And, that spread (and a great defense) brought 3 district titles and a few butt whoppin's to the hooties..

To answer Owlfan 1, I'll root for the colonels of course but I'm a Moss fan in the end...So, with the big girl done with school I'll be a Hawk #1 fan now.. Don't think colonels are headed in right direction offensively and I know they will not be near as stout on defense!!! Soooooo, go COLONELS!!

according to the ghs coaches, sg has shelved the power I (at least on varsity) and returned to the spread - which accounts for their big numbers in the last game. with two weeks to get them used to running it again, the little colonels could be awfully dangerous... ah, how i LOVE this game!

Tonight is Rivalry Eve. Teenagers will be on the prowl. Schools will be protected by their faithful. I have heard that the cannon is gone. Older sibilings went to South, bro and I went to Garland. What a rivalry this is! I love the atmosphere!

I remember when Garland was 0-5 in 2002 and playing South for our HC.

Dallas Morning News picks GHS over SG by a score of 35 to 20.

South got off to a slow start on the offensive side of the ball and the defense stayed on the field way too long in the first two games.

I though SG did faorly alright against LH but it was only a scrimmage. Both teams are coming of good victories.

The choice among readers on this board is clearly GHS. If South wins, it will be a big upset.

I think the key is SG's offense. Will it be the offense of that played against Jeesuit or the one that played against Coppell and Bowie. It has been a month since the season began. Hopefully Coach Wright and the Colonels have melded together and learned each other so that they can pit a run together If the offense can move the ball and hang on to it, maybe Salazar can win it.

South 24 - GHS 21

Owls coaches are confident, but are not looking for a blowout - said to expect a tough game and the need to make a play in the 4th quarter to win...
