Strake Jesuit: Shock and Awe

I'm a big enough guy to admit I was humbled by what I saw tonight.....a team that would not quit....they refused to lose.

I was wrong about Strake's ability to execute: The Crusaders stood tough when the big play needed to be made....Talk about clutch! Bandy and McVaney....wow. BTW. MCVANEY IS ONE BIG DOOD!

I was wrong about FB Marshall's ability to execute: The Buffalo Soldiers could not get the job done with the game on the line.....no kicking game, defense played weak......and lastly

I was wrong about Strake's coach....he simply outcoached FB Marshall's Brantley...I think he read my (TOMORROW'S GAME AT A GLANCE) post.

It was one he!! of a game though.....truly it was...

Well my Buffalo Soldiers are done, so I won't be posting until next season....cause I am in Shock and Awe.....

FINAL Strake Jesuit Crusaders 21

I almost forgot, the game will be on High School Scoreboard Live......

Ditto to what Bob said. I didn't think you would be back at all. Well FB Marshall still had a good season and you can't take that away from the kids.

One heck of a game!!

I was amazed and awed at the speed of the Marshall kids. The QB was quick with a great arm and the running back they had (# 20 I think) was amazingly fast. In the program, their entire squad is listed as upper classmen - only one sophmore on the squad - and I counted over 70 kids during warm ups.

Was a great game to watch - all of the intensity one could stand down to the bitter end. I think the Marshall coaches could have done a better job - they darned sure had the talent on the field to do it.

Just glad to seee us win our first playoff game!

Go SJ!!!!!!!!

BTW - was good to see the Katy support - even talked to a few in the stands. Hope to get my chores done so I can go watch ANOTHER 19-5A victory tomorrow!

Good man...*claps*

Like I said in another thread, Marshall will learn from this and they'll be better off for it. This is not the last we will hear from the Mighty Thurgood Marshall Buffalo Soldiers of Fort Bend District 20-5A Texas USA Earth.

Congrats on a fine season and good luck next year.

Yeah, we field a very talented team (coming from Missouri City where it's a struggle since everybody basically knows everybody and goes to the three Big schools (Marshall, Willowridge, Hightower) with a load of D1 signees this year.

QB James Thomas signed with UTEP, TE Chris Herrera signed with Miss. State, DE Brandon Washington signed with Miss. State, as well as CB Marcus Washington (no relation). DE Sean Estelle signed with Colorado and OL Dimitri Lott signed with Texas Tech.

And all of that was just in the offseason.

I expect BIG things from Marshall, since our entire program (Frosh to Varsity) went a combined 40-6 during the season (3 undefeated teams). Although I won't be seeing the juniors make plays happen next year since I'm graduating, I'm hoping for a state title to run through Fort Bend within the next few years.

by the way, props to katy for helping to make our stand full, and thanks to marshall for the awesome game. To be honest, I don't think anyone thought Strake would have one considering they hold one of the best offenses in the city, but o well gg

Well Superbuffs, you have our respect for coming back and admitting your short comings. Marshall had a great season and nothing can be taken away from that. The playoffs are a whole new season with extreme consequences. One advances and one hangs up their cleats until next year. That is always tough for the guys to take. I am sure the under classmen will work all the harder to prepare themselves for the next season. They played a good game and had Strake figured out in the second half. Some great play calls and lucky bounces of the ball gave the game to Strake. We will be hearing from you next season. You don't have to quit posting just because your team is out. There is always something to talk about even in the off season.

That was the second best highschool football game I have ever seen. One minute Strake side is going crazy and Marshall is silent, next Marshall is going crazy and Strake is silent. Then Strake going crazy, crazy, crazy. What a great game. What a rush. O.K. Strake keep winning. Congrats.

Superbuff,

Thanks for coming back after the loss, that is hard to do. Marshall had many good athletes, but athletes don't win playoff games, teams do. Following Katy for so many years, we have learned that. The best example of that this year is Tx A&M. Great athletic ability but play uninspired team football. I predicted a Strake win because I saw them play Katy Taylor and Cinco and those boys never give up. When they received knock out blows, they got off their duffs and came back at you. Marshall apparently was really never challenged this year and when the game was on the line, could not respond. By the way, I hope your QB is OK, he is a great talent.

Great game! Strake holds it together with excellent strategy and execution, right down to the final play. Looked like David and Goliath out there.

I sensed the Buffs were going down the moment both teams took the field.

The Buffs postured and pranced around individually like they were at a party. Yo, check me out.

The Crusaders lined up like they were ready for a hard day at work at the plant. They had a job to do.

Those who saw the game, saw that Marshall threw a 70 yd pass and stumbled into the endzone in the last 20 sec. of the game... which should have been a touchdown, but one official said it was on the 1 yd line, which i have the tape, i replay it over and over, as well as ESPN, for those who saw the highlights on TV last night on ESPN, and they even said that call was way too questionable,... but i am not here to complain, its all the better for me, i experienced a play-off game, and i will be back next year as a senior to snap the ball once again, of course im upset by a call that was "iffy", i can't do anything about that, i would like to say congrats to the crusaders and wish em' luck on the rest of the play-offs, and i will see all of you next season when Marshall puts the pads back on, well Buffs, we have to crawl before we walk, the jitters are gone now, and we will be back....
Good luck to the rest of the teams who are still in the run for it

First it was Fox news that broadcasted it, and they never once said it was questionable, and if you do have the tape, from the angle from which it was shot there was no way to tell if it was on the TD line, it was shot from behind, not in front or from the side. GG buffs

Well actually, to comment again, i believe we responded very well... regardless of what people say, we came back and made it a game, when usually people would hang it up and give up, for the first time ever this season marshall was down 2 TD's late in the 2nd with Strake draining the life from the clock, and we came back and put one in the endzone, defense stopped the offense again, and we almost put another one in before the half... then we came back 2nd half, and made some amazing plays to tie it up and then take the lead... defense was playing heck of a game, and then the jitters got to us... and the defense was stopping our run, and the our QB hurt his shoulder the 2nd quarter which kept us from passing our usual deep balls, when we used our recievers pure speed to out-run the defender... Strake in the end of the 4th jus happened to make a big play... BUT with 40 sec left on the clock, did Marshall give up??? hell no, we didn't. we went out there and made some plays, and through a 70 yarder that seemed as if it belonged in a movie, and made it one of the most exciting games ever seen, because we had 11 sec. and we were lining up on the 1 yd line, i admit i was so nervous that out of nowhere i started puking, and nothing was wrong with me, it was jus my stomach couldn't contain the butterflies... and i was so madd because they made me leave the game for our final play in which i believed i could have made a big difference, because i never have a problem pushing a defender back, but they got stoppe and only had time for a kick, in which the jitters came back to haunt us and a snap a few inches to high, gave Strake the game, and got one of our players hurt... i will be working extra hard for next year, and it aint the last time you'll see #76 snapping in the black and gold, and i will never puke again........
but CONGRATS to the Crusaders, ya'll played heck of a game, and thanx for giving our seniors some great memories...
see ya'll next year and good luck against Cy-Falls, ya'll can beat em' no doubt, but ya'll should hit some options and pitches because Falls is good at stopping the inside run... atleast they were the last time i checked....

Well actually, to comment again, I believe we responded very well...Absolutely BigTime... Anyone that saw the game cannot take anything away from either team...

We'll never know if your guy got in or not on the long ball because the referee trailed the play and so did all the video... That was purely a judgment call and judging by what happened on the next three plays, a Strake Jesuit win was just meant to be...

Personally, I thought the referees decided to let the kids play, and called a consistent game that didn't affect the outcome... After all, there were only 7 penalties called the entire game...

If you play for the Buffs you have no reason to hang your head. Your team played extremely well, only 3 or 4 penalties and one turnover on a long pass. No fumbles and no lack of effort. You may be wrong about the game highlights being on ESPN but there's no doubt it was an Instant Classic, and for that you can proud, because you and your fellow buffs played a big part in it being so...

I finally decided to break my silence after having a chance to view the videotapes from last night's shocking defeat......It looks like the official blew it.

DUH....what do you expect a FB Marshall Buffalo Soldier fan to say.....lol
----------------------------------------------------------
THE EXPERTS:
Bart Enis, from FSN says, "It looks as if it may have been a touchdown"

Coach Ron Counter, Strake Jesuit's Head Coach says in the Houston Chronicle,

"We have probably won a few games over the years we shouldn't have, and maybe this one will go down as another one of those games."

But what does the VIDEOTAPE say?...you decide for yourself.....take a look,

------------------------------------------------------------

That comment has nothing to do with that final play. He's talking about some private school that nobody respects or gives a chance to win, beating an undefeated team. "One of those games we shouldn't of won"

Also the officials were calling horrible for strake all night. You may have noticed ron counter screaming at them. There was the blatant block in the back on the huge punt return that set up a buffs TD. There was also an obvious hold on reciever davis burck. That would of been a first down and if the guy doesnt hold maybe a TD. Plus a huge facemask on Mcvaney that would of kept an SJ drive alive.

If you freeze the frame you can see, the guy hits the ground, with the ball in his chest, before the goal line then he rolls over. As he rolls onto his back the ball is barely in the endzone. Still tough to tell but I'd say the ref made a good call.

You could start with:
Good game SJ, good luck in the playoffs, we'll be back next year...

And then:
It sure looked close to me, but sometimes calls go your way and sometimes they don't... It was a great effort on our part though...

And finally:
We had a chance to win the game and just didn't make it happen... We tried, props to the SJ defense for a great stand... Until next year...

I want to write to you about your comments. I feel your pain after the loss but you and your teammates can, and I am sure will, learn from the game.

I watched evey move you made during the game....for you would have been playing across from someone close to me if Marshall had played Katy. You should hold your head high for your performance as well as your teammates performance. I believe you have great talent, so use this game as springboard for next year. Elevate your game and shoot for the stars!!

As for Strake Jesuit, they played Jesuit football and deserved to win. I was really proud of those kids as well. Good luck Crusaders next week, keep winning for 19-5A. We need to let it be known we don't play weak football in our district.
