that was the 1st game of the season LV and Allen. i bet if they played again it would be another story. plus this is a rivalry game and they play with extra motivation.

It was an incredible game but as inexperienced as Longview was it shouldn't have been close. The Lufkin offensive coaching staff's insistence on trying to pound a square peg into a round hole kept the defense on the field way too long in the 2nd half.

Lufkin has good players but poor offensive game plans and that is what has killed them the last couple of years. For once, John King can look in the mirror tonight and say he got the better of John Outlaw. The excuse line was churning during the post game interview.

I really thought LP was gonna hang a 50 spot on them after the 2nd qtr

Conditioning also played a huge role in the 2nd half. How many times did the game have to be stopped for an LP player on the ground? It wasn't just on defense, but offense as well. Lufkin had a great air attack, and Longview hurt themselves late in the game with stupid penalties. Also, Lufkin only scored 3 points in the 2nd half, before OT. They just couldn't answer every thing Longview ran at them. Before the game was over, the Lobos had their way with the Panther defense.

You do know Lufkin only ran 10 offensive plays in the 2nd half?
That's an awful lot of pressure to put on your own defense. If the offense could have at least given the defense some rest during the 2nd half, the defense would have fared much better at the end. As it was they was left hanging out to dry in the 2nd half.

10 offensive plays or not, the D still should be ready for a potentially long night. They couldn't rise to the occasion in the OT's either, when both teams were pretty much on an even playing field. Longview came out to play in the 2nd half. Lufkin just came out.

I never want to go through a heart wrenching game like that again.
What a game. What a rivalry.
TONS of mistakes by both teams. Lobo running game just got going in the 2nd half and Lp couldn't stop it.
Good luck to Lufkin through out the rest of the season. What a game.

That was a Texas High School Friday night game. WOW. that is all you can say the Lobos pounded the rock in the 2nd half and beat Lufkin. Good Luck to the Lobos on the season. I think that loss will help the Pack and that win will be great motivation for the Lobos. games like that makes you want the old district back so every week you can have them slobber knockers.
GO PACK
LV take the 4a title.

pack, I agree. That was a good, old-fashioned, East Texas HS football game tonight. One that you are ashamed if you left early, and wished you had to save yourself the heart attack if you stayed.

Tale of two halves. Great game, and great win for LV. You hate to ever say that something was for the best - but, let me tell you - that was our first field goal ATTEMPT this year. And converting two fourth down passes hopefully does something for our O - we'll see.
Any way you slice it - the only stop we were putting on LV in OT was a fumble. We were gassed 100%.

All I can say about the game is that win or lose both teams came out of it better prepared to make a long run in Playoffs this year! One thing about East Texas that most people do not realize. We may beat up on each other during the games but we support each other during rest of season. Good Luck to the Lobos the rest of year. I hope you are still playing in December.

Both teams learned alot about themselves tonight. One thing I do hate is I think there were no less than 5 unsportsmanlikes called - several costly. Sounded like a loosely played game by both squads.

That was a game for the ages. By far one of the best Lobo games I have ever seen and by far the most exciting finish I have ever seen.
Two great programs with great, rich histories. Unreal. No doubt this game will do nothing but make each other better. Can't wait till next season.
Hope everyone had a safe drive up and a safe drive back. How's that for a little game to get your mind off the hurricane? haha. Good luck to the Pack the rest of the season. No doubt that Lufkin will continue to be a power in 5A.

Fav, both teams had stupid penalties. Longview's late almost cost them the game. The rivalry was getting heated as Longview started to have their way with Lufkin's defense. I hope King rips his players a new one for the unsportsmanlike stuff. There is no place for that in ANY game, but in the close games it can and will cost you.

Congrats on the win Lobos. I didn't like all the flags that went our way, but no excuses yall running game killed us today and if your passing game get better I dont know to many teams that could stop you.
But the Pack played well plus in the first half, I just wish we had somebody better calling plays for us on offense. I was proud of the team effort tonight though, hopefully we can rebound from this tough loss and beat Mesquite next week.

This is the topic you hear people talking about privately around town for a few years now. However, I'm just now seeing it discussed here on this forum. It is a big elephant in Lufkin's closet.

I think the reasoning behind it not being talked about is because we have come to expect it. All you can do it press forward and hope that the refs done completely screw you. After 2002 semi's i realized that theres nothing you can do about it even it is completely blatent.

I am reading all of these post bashing the play calling in the 2nd half.
Was the real problem the play calling, or bad execution?

Some of both. You have the ball on your 1 foot line - you hand off to your rb who is tackled in the endzone - that's execution. You call 5 screen passes in one game - that's playcalling.

Thanks..... my concern is that without the ability to execute, your play calling is hampered. They need to get this fixed on both sides.
Anyway, it sounds like it was a great game since most people expected L'view to run The Pack off the field.
I will see it for myself next weekend when they come up here to swat some Skeeters.

My appologies. In response to the right interpretation of your statement, your spot on. Its been like that for a few years now. The predictability of the pack sometimes is beyond me. Ex) 2002 semi against SLC (yes i use this game alot in my examples) 30-30 lufkin has the ball with a couple min on the clock (not sure how long 2 or less i think). We go with the same play 4-5 times in a row (10 and out for the wide recievers) and wonder why we got picked off.

Now you're getting my drift. From 2002 until about 2007, Lufkin did well by just having outstanding athletes. They beat other teams purely based on athleticism. However, Lufkin no longer enjoys the huge athletic advantage they used to have. Therefore, they need to do it with execution and creative scheming. Until that happens...

You got to look at it both ways. Lufkin was up 20-7 with about 6 minutes left in the game when Longview scored on a 4th and 8 from the 35 on a bomb pass. Not to mention we were playing in Longview arguably the toughest place to play in Texas right now (That student section is no joke) 21 straight wins ok you may say well NS has 70 something LV jas beaten John Curtis there West Monroe there Lufkin, and ECA NS has just recenty played a powerhouse team like that and that was this year against Katy oh yeah you got housed by TWHS 47-0 .
Allen only scored 14 offensive points Lufkin had 20 at Half time. Not to mention Claybon threw for 4 TD's and ran for another score. So possibly Lufkin has a better offense and a QB then Allen, and guess what our offense aint the Colts thats for damn sho. So quit hating on Lufkin and who is your team by the way.
Congrats LV I knew it wa over in OT both of our DT's went out and I needed a shotgun to stop your RB's and the QB all I can say he pulled a Mini Vince Young out the *** last night he was the key factor for LV's win. #10 if he plays like that and you cant blame the dropped passes on him yeah he overthrew 2, but he is one hell of a QB. LV will win 4A state this year. They obliterrated ECA and LT struggled to a win.
1st and goal from the 5 with 12 seconds left we should have never played for OT should have went for the win ran 1 play and kicked a FG it was obvious LV had all the mo at that point defense was depleted and in OT LV physically kicked our *** last night great game Lobos.

Great game. I really thought it was over when Lufkin went up 20-7. Lufkin came out looking great but turnovers kept us in it. I have to give some credit to our QB he was the difference maker in the 2nd half....made some great plays under pressure. Good luck to Lufkin the rest of the way and I hope you have a great playoff run. I am very sorry to all those who were disrespected by some Longview ppl. I heard a guy really disrespecting some Lufkin ppl walking around the track after the game to the buses. I really wanted to say something to him but ppl like that arent worth the trouble. Just ignorant and worthless. I am really sorry for that. You would not get treated like that if you sat on the home side I promise.
