I haven't posted in a long time, but, I keep seeing this 4pm start time complaint on various websites so I figured it was time to say something. Now keep in mind I don't always agree with LISD either. But here goes.

1. Lubbock used to not do this and play Saturday games as an option. A BUNCH of people complained. Primarily about an entire Saturday wasted due to our travel situations here in West Texas.
2.Saturday games make the following week tougher for the coaching staffs to prepare for the next opponent when the next game is on Friday.
3. LISD got a tremendous amount of complaints about playing on Saturday when Tech was playing as well.
4. It becomes tougher to bring the bands. You try to budget two meals for a Saturday trip for several hundred band kids. (not to mention all the other kids) In most situations the kids can still eat lunch in their hometown and the schools only have one meal to worry about. I have been told it also conflicted with band competitions on occasion.

So then I have seen these bright ideas as an alternative....

1. Use Jones stadium. That's a great idea....have everyone battle the tailgaters and other activities on Friday night for parking etc. Everyone can have some brisket and a six pack of beer to get them ready for a HS game. They can then trash the stadium up so the cleanup crew can then rush to get things ready for the Tech game.

2. Build another stadium. Another brilliant idea no one has thought of. I hear plans to rennovate Lowry have been sitting on a shelf for years collecting dust while waiting for the right opportunity to ask the taxpayers for more money. Anytime anyone mentions school tax increase or school bond election have you noticed how it seems people come out of the woodwork to oppose it no matter how bad it's needed.

3. Play on Saturday. Well...let's see...isn't that the arguement that started all this?

Cut LISD some slack here guys, they are doing the best they can to make EVERYONE happy. Besides....take a couple of hours off from work once a year and get to the game on time for a 4pm start. You get to see the game and still get home on the same calendar day the game started which isn't always easy to do out here. Besides, your kid only does HS once and as for your job....I'm sure your boss leaves for his kids activities when needed. Not to mention....who is really gonna be there for YOU when it counts?
