Mavs 42 SC 19 Congratulations to the Madison Mavericks! The Mavs played an awesome game tonight both on the field and on the sidelines! Their coaching was superior tonight with a great game plan and their kids came to play. Our boys just didn't have any fire tonight whatsoever! No excuses here, the Mavs deserve to advance in the playoffs!

Madison's offensive line consistently dominated our D-line and controlled the game. Caflisch played and outstanding game both with his legs and his arm. The Mav's D also stepped up big with 5 turnovers and the special teams dominated us (Caflisch 97 YD kickoff return) all night!

Congratulations to the Buffs on a very good season and good luck to the Mavs the rest of the way!

Thanks for the nice post. I'm glad you came on here.

I never been one not to take my medicine when needed! LOL There are no excuses, Madison deserved this game tonight! They played their A$$E$ off! I have a really good friend that has a senior son on the Mavs and he's a flat out stud! I'm really happy for that young man tonight because he played one hell of a game!

You are not going to beat anyone, especially a good team with 5 turnovers and not playing special teams! That QB for Madison is a great player, and great player make plays when it counts like he did tonight!

We had one bright spot tonight and he is #32 Jamal Robinson. That kid played his face off on both sides of the football. Other than that, nobody else showed up to play!

Congratulations Mavs

clemensbuff, very accurate descriptions of what happened. Congrats to Madison, they played a great, and very nearly error-free, game. The same to the Buffs for a great season.

District championships are nice, but the one that counts has eluded us once again! :( I guess it was a decent season, but district titles have not been that hard to come by for the Buffs and the fans are hungry for a lot more here. I think that the coaching staff we have in place will get it done eventually with the talent that we have in the district, I just hope that it happens before I'm 90, so I don't have a damn heart attack and keel over dead! LOL :)

Clemens never has had everything in place. Until this year, you never had the right coach and you still might not. I can't say that yet. Even if you do have the right coach, your growth has been stunted by the weak competition in 25. You can't play 25 and then have to face 26 and stand a good chance to win.

Chris Caflisch has put up some great this year...running...he's not much in the air, but he is fast. I'll be a closet Purdue fan while he's there. :D

I won't know...
Madison's 1st district title - 1979; first graduating class 1980
Madison's last district title - 1979.

Let me tell you something. Everyone talks about his ability to run, the kid got it done last night with his right arm also! He threw some awesome balls on those skinny posts routes. Three times he hit his receiver on the run, dead on the money. Those kids didn't break stride and the ball was perfect! This kid could play QB at the D1 level!!!!!

He signed up with Purdue as a WR, but can probably do what they need him to. Accuracy and consistency had been problems earlier in the year. Most of the early games averaged 3 to 5 pass plays in a game.

I have to take issue with the post about Chris' passing ability. I will admit that last year he was not that great at chunking the rock but you can tell he worked his butt off over the summer to improve his skills as a passer. I think sometimes we see a kid that has a great set of wheels and figure he can't throw the ball. But I think the stats speak for themselves

Passing stats only
Week 0 - vs San Marcos (L 14-17) - 3-5-0 52 Yards Passing 1TD
Week 1 - OFF
Week 2 - vs Taft (W 50-15) - 7-9-0 111 yards Passing 0TD
Week 3 - vs O'Connor (W 21-17) - 6-6-0 65 yards passing 1TD
Week 4 - vs Roosevelt (W 30-27) - 3-4-0 33 yards passing 0TD
Week 5 - vs Reagan (W 21-9) - 2-9-1 38 Yards passing 1TD
Week 6 - vs Churchill (W 31-10) 4-7-0 47 yards passing 1TD
Week 7 - vs Lee (W 29-13) 5-9-1 110 yards passing 1TD
Week 8 - vs Judson (W 23-14) 7-10-0 126 yards passing 1TD
Week 9 - vs Smithson Valley (L 21-31) 3-8-0 61 Yards passing 0TD
Week 10 - vs MacArthur (W OT 40-34) 6-11-0 195 yards passing 2TD
Play W1 - vs Clemens (W 42-19) 4-5-0 114 yards passing 1TD

Adding it all up you have
50-83-1 952 yards passing 9TD
Pct. .602
Passer Rating: 131.2

He does not rack up the big yards but I know a few coaches that would take these numbers even if the kid did not run.

To put the passer rating into perspective in the NFL Ben Roethlisberger has the highest passer rating of any QB with a 112.4

Looking at the newspaper stats this morning statistically this game should have been closer until you get to the turnover line. Madison showed what they can do when they don't throw interceptions or fumble. No fumbles at all for Madison. Great job Mavs.

I didn't need to see these stats because all you have to do is watch this kid play in person. The stats just back up what I saw last night! This kid is the real deal!

#43 on defense played his heart out as well. you can't just say all the other players didn't give their best just because they lost. I support JR - the kid is way talented and maybe you were mainly referring to the offensive side, but Rolando played well too, from what i saw and heard

I don't think that is a proper "perspective" and definitely not realistic. I mean last night in city league ( pro-am) I had 37 points and hit 8 of 11 threes. That was our 8th game of the season and I average about 28 which would make me top 10 scorers in the NBA.

Why not? I think you could do it if you really tried! Good point, but this kid is not a pro football player competing on his level right now! So I guess that it is still as impressive to me. Afterall, he is not throwing the ball to guys who are making millions of dollars a year to catch it!

Caflisch's speed is deceptive, he isn't that great in close quarters, but give him a crease and he hits top gear before the defenders are in second. In the open field he uses his long quartermiler stride to gobble up the turf leaving defenders needing a motorcycle to run him down. He will always be a tough cover on streaks and posts at the NCAA D1-level, but his arm is good enough that it can improve to be a solid D1 QB if given the chance. Purdue's offense is not set up for him to be a QB. They like pocket passers that can spread the ball. Chris is more like a Reggie McNeal. If A&M (who is still interested)offers him a scholarship and he were to drop Purdue and sign with A&M, my inside sources tell me that they would give him a chance to make it as a QB.

Congratulations to the Mavs - very impressive win. I'm very suprised that Clemens played so poorly, but I think the weak competition didn't prepare them for such a competitive situation. Good luck to the Mavs in the playoffs and congrats to Clemens even though I'm sure they didn't want to go out the way they did !!
