Who do you all think has the best overall team speed? Lufkin is always in the top 2 or 3 in this respect. Now for hardest hitting team I have not seen anybody that hits harder than Lufkin. I admit I am biased in that most of the teams I have seen play have been from East Texas. Lets get the opinions from other areas.

Lufkin always has one of the fastest/ hardest hitting defensives in Texas. Longview is usually right there with Lufkin most years.

I would be really hard-pressed to find two teams in Texas that can match those two Texas teams on a yearly basis with speed and skill. Lufkin and Longview just seem to reload.

I'll give Tyler (REL) some love also.

northshore and ike teams always have a lot of speed and usually hit very hard. the northshore 03 team was one of the fastest and hardest defenses ever. lufkin's 03 team was right there with them defensively.

Ike has fallen on hardtimes here of late. I havent really been to impressed with them overall the last few years. The IKE teams of the late 90's were very athletic.

North Shore always has some speed and skill on thier defense. Yes, the 2003 North Shore team was totally awesome. I hate to even say this but I would be hardpressed to think there was a better team in the Nation in 2003 than North Shore.

Spring Westfield of the last few years has some very good team speed and skill on defense. The 2001 Westfield defense was big, fast and athletic. I know they gave Lufkin everything they wanted. Plus, last years Westfield team was big, fast and hardhitting.

I agree with you, with all the teams I have seen Lufkin face over the years we and Longview have had the best combination of hard hitting and speed.

I need to put three other teams in that catagory that came close, they are Tyler Lee, Spring Westfield in 2001 and Pfluggerville in 2004. Those teams were maybe not the fastest, but they impressed me when they brought the hat.

westfield is a very fast team when i saw them in 2001. one of the few teams that could match up with lufkin's overall speed. i know ike has fallen on tough times in the last few years but i was talking 90's and early 00's. they had some great speed and big hitters on those teams. it used to be a blast to watch a lufkin/ike game but not lately. hopefully they will be back.

The poor old Dragons are so slow and never hit anybody. How do they win all of those games? Give 'em some love!

our "athleticism" or lack thereof has always been our downfall. ask those 47 teams we recently squeaked by.

Its the same deal with overall D-1 talent. We are just talking about teams that were very fast, hard hitting and alot of skilled kids.

I agree. Programs like SLC, SV and Katy may not always have all the fastest kids or most skilled kids but they play "TEAM FOOTBALL" really really "GREAT."

But, just like last years SLC defense. I think they were better than some people (on the National scene) seem to think. Last years SLC defense was pretty good "in my opinion." I think there is 4 maybe even 5 kids (Seniors & Juniors) on the 2004 SLC defense unit that will end up playing major college football.

Pflugerville usually has some pretty good team speed, although ive never seen some of these other teams play that you are mentioning, alot of Lufkin fans would agree with me that Pville has good team speed (although they are probably a little faster). And you may say that he got caught from the back (he must have slowed down because he thought he was gone or something, he did have a pretty big head) but you would be hard pressed to find any one player from last year that could have beaten Todd Walker in the 40 yard dash. He was the fastest i've ever seen in person (or in high shcool much less). Just the way he could hit the corner, and what he could do in the open field.

'Ya know I never understood why everybody hates the Yankees...
But guys like this make it crystal clear. It's not because they are
good. It's because they are good and conceited...It gets old.

This discussion isn't complete without mentioning Garland in my opinion. They forced 33 turnovers in 11 games last year. The best players from that defense are all back this year. Extremely fast and hard hitting.

When it comes to speed and hitting thats been the tradition at North Shore since the arrival of coach Aymond. His philosophy is that speed kills and thats just what the Mustangs have been doing for years now killing teams with their speed. Westfield is the first team i've seen in a long time of watching North Shore that seemed to have a counter for our every player.

no he was not slowing down when jamie harris from lufkin caught walker. ran him down with no angle period. asky anybody that was there. same thing with the very fast rb pflugy had. he was ran down. anyways, yes garland is very fast and they can hit with the best of them. nobody said slc is not fast or they cannot hit hard. i was very impressed by their defense last year. they swarm you and play their positions great. everybody knows slc has some very fast players and hard hitters but i would not put them as one of the fastest defenses overall that i have seen. they are the best team though. that is what i would rather be.

wide, i'm sure that was a cut at me and i don't know how to respond. in the parlance of these boards, we aren't very "athletic". i don't know how to tell whether we hit hard, that's why i suggested you ask 47 recent casualties. in fact ask all 48. i would add sv, 04 version to that list. seems like lots seem to have lots of hard hitters.

all i know is if you win or lose vs lufkin, which it is usually a loss, you always here the other team talk about lufkin's speed and hitting ability. in other words, if you win vs lufkin or lose to lufkin you are still going to feel it the next day.

Best Team speed has to go to Converse Judson... Across the board Judson doesnt have one starter on defense who doesnt run slower then a 4.8. And on offense... The speed of our RB WR TE and QBs is scarey... The fastest player on this years squad is around a 4.3 and i belive that is Derrick Williams who was on our state qualifying 4x100 team.

I will match the Aldine Eisenhower Eagles TEAM SPEED against anyone in the state! Although our football program has been down the last few years, the speed has never left. Ike won the 4 x 100 relay event in the Texas High School 5A Division this year and was second in the 4 x 200 relay! Since the majority of these sprinters also played football and will be back for the 2005 season, I will have to say Ike won't be losing any speed anytime soon.

Randy Johnson, a junior DB starter on Eisenhower's football team, placed second in the 100-meter sprint at Austin a few weeks back.

Over the last 8-9 years that I've followed BIG IKE football, we have played some great teams. We have lost some but won certainly more than our share. Although speed certainly is a big plus, quality comes in all kinds of packages. Premier high school football teams with outstanding speed that come to my mind has to include Lufkin and North Shore. But, if teams like Katy, Midland Lee, Austin Westlake, and Converse Judson (Southlake Carroll too but IKE just never has played them) were ever handicapped due to the lack of great team speed, I'll take a little of that handicap along with the rest of their formulas.

We look forward to a very fast Eisenhower Eagles team in 2005 with a lot of talent and speed at the skill positions. The lines on both side of the ball will need to mature quickly. Eisenhower graduated a lot of experienced D1 linemen from last years team. Since IKE plays A&M Consolidated and Lufkin the first two games in 2005, we will find out just how good those linemen are going to be. Hopefully, BIG IKE can find the rest of the package we had a few years back and we will be back on track GOING DEEP INTO THE PLAYOFFS EVERY YEAR. I love seeing IKE playing high school football in the month of December!

THE SWOOP IS BACK IN 2005!

Cmon now, yall have to know team speed goes to Lee. Yall didnt hear about the second round against Berkner where Berkner rushed for -36 YARDS :D ? The week before that i think the QB alone had around 200 rushing...but thats just me. Hardest hitting, i would have to give that to the Pack, theyll jack you up.

Well we all know there is not one high school football player that can run a sub 4.4 fourty. Best team speed would have to go to Lufkin, Northshore, or any of the other schools that produce a large amount of D1 players.

Good call, KT. I'm always amazed at Garland's speed, athleticism and physical play on defense. You can almost always count on them for that, along with a good ground game on offense. They have pretty good teams year after year. Dallas Carter is another team like that.

Thanks for the mention, we appreciate that folks notice that win or lose, a game against Garland will leave some bruises and Saturday morning aches and pains. It's pretty hard to get through those East Texas boys, they live in a bubble and see through tunnelvision and totally forget about anybody else. I'm surprised the Lufkin faithful didn't mention us after the results of the last 6 years, we would sure mention them, though they lost, wow, what hitters. REL was a tough bunch too, as was Longview in 2002. Come on guys, give us our props, we didn't forget about you. :D

I think Region 4 deserves some props here as well. Usually, their best teams are very physical (if not always known for being blazing fast).

From what i saw against Cedar Park, Lufkin is the fastest team. Period. Cedar Park is by no means a fast team, so maybe that made Lufkin look alot faster, but they seemed to have blazing speed.

Lufkin always has speed. The 2001 team had 21 kids that ran legit 4.6 and faster. That's a very fast high school team buddy.

When thinking of the fastest teams three come to mind.....North Garland, Carter, and Garland.

I know North has some speedsters in the backfield and of course carter is always loaded with athleticism and Garlands slowest person on defense runs a 4.7
