Firebird

....because it's been a while and Mrs. Bird was wanting me to. Yesterday at the HEB they had gotten in some beautiful fresh, wild, blacktip shark steaks and the price was right. 6 bucks a pound. I picked out two 8oz steaks and brought 'em home.
At lunchtime today I came home and whipped up a quick marinade of equal parts olive oil and fresh lime juice. A little kosher salt, pepper, a garlic clove, and a few basil leaves. Shark has a great flavor, but like most fish it is easy to overpower it with over the top marinades or spice rubs. After I came home I just took out the steaks, got a fire going, and put them on a hot oiled grate. I also cooked some skewers of fresh asparagus, also simply seasoned with olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper. Everything was finished within about 10 minutes. Some grated parmesan cheese on top of the hot asparagus.
Great flavors, very simple, very healthy. Just an all around great weeknight meal. Shark is a great choice for the grill, it holds its shape well, is very firm, and very flavorful so it can stand up to the smoke.

It doesn't matter what food Bird or JTK like.
It matters what food Mrs. Bird likes. Way to go Bird.;)

damn, you go thru all that for your mrs? When my spicy Latina says she wants some good cooking, I ask her the best place in town to get it. Since I'm relatively new here I dont know where anything is. I take her out to eat for pretty much, no, every meal. ok, well, I do make breakfast for her when she stays the nite here. I figure it's the least I can do.
I wonder if my NOT cooking has anything to do with the string of Xwives I have?
ok, on a serious note, what you made sounds killer. Ima have to see if my HEB has that sort of thing. I'm not much in the kitchen, but on the grill, I am a gawd among men.

I bought this Crock Pot Cookbook at Barnes and Noble for $3 and it has like 100 recipes in it. Most of the stuff in there is like "prepare this nonsense for 10 minutes and put it into the Crock Pot to cook for 8 hours." I like doing things out of this because I can invite her over for dinner and claim that I spent 8 hours making this meal... without really lying ;).

Well, the problem with that is that I'd feel bad about it. While it would be outright lying, it would be a half truth. I'm morally opposed to such things. No, really, I am.
Besides, on our first date I was very forthright with her and told her all the bad stuff. But I told it in a fun way. Then I gave her the phone numbers of both my xwives, my momma, my best friends wife, and their neighbor. I told her to call each of those people for a reference check. The next night she calls me wanting to know if I was interested in going out again. Go figure?
I know the crock pot stuff though. I just have a problem with getting motivated to cook. I make enough money to eat out all the time, so why not do it? I mean, you only live once right?
Forman grill. Now there's a product I can get into. I have 2 of them. The bigass one and the small one. I also have the Forman rotisserie. I can cook up a yardbird in there like nobody. My spicy Latina likes my forman yardbird with fixins so I do that about once a week.
