6 weeks from now, we may say Judson was the best team and just started late. SV has been the best and Clemens has been close to the top. This is one of the better prepared Madison teams and SM is a good team, but not at SV's playoff level. Seguin is behind some other teams in the area, too.

Seguin matadors----brother, i have been guilty of hijacking several threads--LOL...it happens all the time, no big deal...i was just messing with my buddy Lonny a little bit....Seguin has just as good as chance as anyone in the playoffs...they are playing really good, sound football...i've seen stranger things happen(2003--Lufkin and Longview go down in the FIRST round to Garland and S. All I've ever wanted was for the Lobos to give me something to believe in. I get tired of them losing to Lufkin. They were the first high school team I liked as a kid and I always wanted to go to their games. Boy, I would've been hated if I never left Longview and went to Pine Tree all the way through high school. Lonny, you don't how much that post means to me, brother.....how many battles and silly arguments have you and i had over the years about Longview and Judson?? way too many...since last year, i can honestly say that i like this form of communication between you and i a hell of alot better!!.....(Bleedgreen grabs a tissue, blows his nose, and wipes off his tears)--LOL....always like Judson as well, brother...never a reason to not like them..i respect ANY program with rich and storied traditions...let you in on a secret....as a teenager, i would always want to read how the rest of the teams across the state did the night before(Longview saturday paper always list all of the scores in all divisions from across the state every week)...i wanted to know how that "Converse" team fared the night before?? i was attracted to the name "Converse" for some reason?? and the "Judson" part of the name always reminded me of Judson middle school here in Longview..it was really strange?? and, on top of that, everytime that i saw the scores, they were like 55-0, and 60-0, 65-0--etc.....never understood how a team scored that many points in a game???but, i now see that it was just the WEAK district that you guys are in---LOL.......take care, good luck to the Rockets this weekend......................

I always looked at the scores in the Longview paper, but the Judson thing came to me because of Texas Football. Long before we had the Internet, I would always look at the previous year's playoff bracket to see who beat who along the way to the titles. The Judson thing really clicked in when my dad said something about them being good because they were close to Randolph. I was there when he pulled the map out and found Converse. We were in Louisiana (82-early 85) when they won the title in 83, but I still remember not liking those years that Holmes beat them in the mid-80's. I hated the Carter game in 88 that I watched on TV. I focused mostly on Pittsburg and then Mt. Pleasant from 85-91 and then left to see the world. I was OK with the Marshall game at the time in 1990 since they were so close to Marshall. I had some attachment to them because I played soccer against Marshall and went to football playoff games in Marshall. That win over Permian with the Russians in attendance kinda made a mark on me in 1988. The ET 5A teams I didn't like were Texas High and John Tyler. I never had lived anywhere in Texas except ET, so I naturally was primarily an ET guy.

I really started rooting for Judson almost 20 years before I ever moved there and my only affiliation with them is I wanted to join and later did join the Air Force and I knew they had Air Force kids on the team. I never saw the high school before 2001 and never went to a game before 2002. I can't help but like the Panhandle teams because I was conceived there and I'm really a West Texan at heart with my parents graduating from Pampa and my grandparents living there for so long. I naturally liked teams like Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Pampa, and Vernon more than others because I'd travel through there. I never was a big Plano, Midland Lee, Lewisville or Permian fan, but I sure was disappointed every year Judson didn't win D1.

All the 90's did was cement that I liked Judson while the Air Force had me moving around. Mt. Pleasant got real good in the 90's and I'd check the scores for all the playoff games as soon as they were played since I lived in Alaska, but later in Delaware and South Korea with Internet access. I even called my parents to find out scores in Delaware. I like winners and successful people. I've been successful and want to learn from other successes. That's why I always look at the scores in the playoffs. You better believe I learned where Southlake Carroll was when they got good. I've always made playoff brackets for sports and I like to go to towns where they have won state titles.

I was real disappointed when Katy beat Longview in 1997, because I wanted them to break that 1937 streak so bad. That's always bothered me. Longview would've always stayed my primary 5A team if I never had moved to Converse, but the Rockets were always my #2 team before I moved to Converse and that meant I wanted them to win state every year since they were D1. Longview might still have been my #1 team if I didn't really respect how Judson runs their program. That means more than the titles.

That's my story about my first love and my true love in 5A football. Since they always end up in different divisions, I've always been able to be married to 2 teams! :D Let's call it Utah rules! :p

SLC seems to always be able to overcome everything, but I'm predicting a first round loss for a couple of reasons. Irving Mac has played a brutal schedule against SGP and ET. They came out with just the one blemish on the season. They have already been big game tested this year. SLC has played the season unscathed, but they have had a couple of close games against NOBODY(no disrespect intended, GV fans). I think the weak season schedule will bite them in the rear this year.

You are a funny man, bleedgreen, a funny man. As someone already mentioned, Argyle is located 8 miles south of Denton on Hwy 377. I live here, but my wife and I make considerably less than the median income for this nice little town. Our high school is 2A, soon to be 3A, but that's really insignificant. I know high school football well, or as well as anyone else on this board. And in my opinion, Longview is not as good as Katy or SLC. I have not personally seen Lufkin play this year, so I won't pick that potential matchup just yet. For the record, you are welcome to slam me, my opinion, and my posts anytime. I appreciate the backup from other members of this forum, but my record will speak for itself come season's end. Good luck this weekend.

lol I never thought of it that way. Actually, I based my vote on those two weeks where they barely got past opponents they should have handled easily. I did not realize it until Pack0808 mentioned it. They seemed to resemble Lufkin 2003. Tons of talent and experience, but a break down in team dynamics.

haha agreed...and the fact that the other 3 teams were IMHO head and shoulders above the lobos...were the poll including other undefeated teams like Pearland I probably would've voted that way

It looks like the poll was right. I picked the wolf to be outed first, but I didn't think it would be in the first round. This looks to be a year of upsets. I hope the poll is wrong on the second pick.
