View Full Version : Vince is pissed

I read some comments from VY today about the Kansas game over at Orangebloods.com, and he is genuinely pissed about what Mangino/Kansas said after last year's game....

"The challenge for me is how they disrespected us last year, saying that they outplayed us and outcoached us. I'm going to make sure that I tell the guys this week what they said. Coach (Brown) told us yesterday what they said, but we just want to go out and have a good week of practice, represent our coaches and represent ourselves, so that (Mark Mangino) will never say that again."

Kansas is in serious trouble.

I know it's the Hulk's line...but I couldn't resist.

Why would you want to piss Vince off?
Oh...It's gonna get ugly.

They are in more trouble then most think. The whole team seems to take on the same attitude as Vince. Can you believe an entire team that intense. I think Mangino set this up on purpose that way during the fourth quarter he can go get a pizza and then he can get his coupon for free wings given out after every Texas win.

They would convine me they don't run it up if they stop somewhere around 45....but by running up into the 50's and 60's and then trying to be their friend afterward....

what are they supposed to do lie down before you get in the end zone. When someone argues that another team is running up the score it means they have run out of all material that they could use against another team

You gotta be kidding me dude.

How long have you been watching college football?

It is nothing for a team to win by 50...it happens at least a hundred times every season...

If the only thing you can hate on Texas for...is running up the score...?
c'mon dawg...

YOU ARE AGGY...that is just pathetic.

Do you have any idea what the score would be if Texas actually did try and run it up?

I was at the Baylor game last week...They could have scored 90 ...easy...

I was in the stands...calling every damn play after halftime...

"Watch...Charles up the middle"
"Watch ...Taylor up the middle"
"Watch ...Melton over the guard..."

And guess what....?
They still couldn't stop them...
You want to degrade Texas...because the other teams suck?

aggy logic...I will never...ever...ever...figure it out.

This is very stupid.

We can go ahead and throw out the OK State game and the Ohio State game since those games were either close at half or Texas was down. The following stats say it all...

Texas attempts an average 25 passes per game.

In the 7 games Texas won in a blowout (ULaLa, Rice, Mizzou, BlowU, Colorado, Tech and Baylor) they attempted, on average, just 8 passes in the second half. Over 66% of the passes Texas has thrown this year came in the first half of play. Then consider that outside of the Ohio State game, Vince has not played a complete game, Jamaal Charles has not played a complete game, Limas Sweed has not played a complete game, etc., etc.

The following is the transcript of a typical 4th quarter for Texas this year...

U 1-10 U33 TEXAS drive start at 11:46 (4th).
U 1-10 U33 Melton, Henry rush for 8 yards to the UT41 (Lane, Maurice;Gay, Dan).
U 2-2 U41 PENALTY UT false start (Tweedie, Neale) 5 yards to the UT36.
U 2-7 U36 Melton, Henry rush to the UT36, fumble by Melton, Henry recovered by UT
Melton, Henry at UT41.
U 3-2 U41 Timeout Texas, clock 10:04.
U 3-2 U41 Melton, Henry rush for 5 yards to the UT46, 1ST DOWN UT (Nelson,
Geoff;Andrews, Willie).
U 1-10 U46 Melton, Henry rush for 7 yards to the BU47 (Moore, Nick;Nelson, Geoff).
U 2-3 B47 Melton, Henry rush for 2 yards to the BU45 (Andrews, Willie;Gay, Dan).
U 3-1 B45 Melton, Henry rush for 6 yards to the BU39, 1ST DOWN UT (Hill,
Julian;Moore, Nick).
U 1-10 B39 Melton, Henry rush for 3 yards to the BU36 (Moore, Nick;Shoals, Klayton).
U 2-7 B36 Nordgren, Matt rush for 2 yards to the BU34 (Moore, Nick).
U 3-5 B34 Melton, Henry rush for 3 yards to the BU31 (Howard, Paul;Andrews, Willie).
U 4-2 B31 Melton, Henry rush for 2 yards to the BU29, 1ST DOWN UT (Howard,
Paul;Hill, Julian).
U 1-10 B29 Nordgren, Matt rush to the BU18, fumble by Nordgren, Matt recovered by UT
Nordgren, Matt at BU15, Nordgren, Matt for 15 yards to the BU0, 1ST DOWN
UT, TOUCHDOWN, clock 05:18.
Pino, David kick attempt good.

That says it all. To say Mack runs up a score is laughable... in a very ******** kind of way.

I'm sorry man, that sucks.

Don't hate UT, hate the 10% rule...that's what's keeping people like you out and it's what kept my fiance from getting in way back when. She ended up going the JuCo to SWT route and she's doing very well for herself. I was just outside the top 10% of my graduating class of 550+ and I somehow got in to UT...but not until March! On top of that, they wouldn't accept me into anything but Lib. Arts Undeclared. To put it into perspective, I was accepted to Georgia Tech in November in the major of my choice! The 10% rule is a joke. Some kid who got automatic admission because of that is gonna go there and totally waste it and probably not even graduate...while an excellent, dedicated, and driven student like yourself, or like my fiance, can't get in...it happens, I've seen it.

The best thing you can do if you really want to try and go to UT is to try to get conditional admission by attending one of the satellite schools and re-applying after a year or two.

Sorry for the digression...

Vince is an intense competitor when he's calm...Vince pissed = a beatdown in the making.

The top 10% rule is the best thing that a Democratic legislature ever did. (Perhaps the only good thing).

It is absolutely ludicrous that a STATE university, which is primarly run with public funds, used to able to reject applicants who did everything that they could do, graduated and graduated in the top 10%of the class. UT, A&M, hell any STATE university was not created to get good US News rankings. They were created to serve and educate the citizens of this state. Even the poor ones.

Yeah, I know the typical argument--

"A kid who graduated in the top 30 or 40% at Highland Park (or SLC, or SA Reagan, or SA Churchill-- pick any wealthy, primarily anglo school) is more qualified than a kid who graduated in the top 5% at La Joya (or Rio Grande City, or Brownsville Porter-- pick any poor, primarily minority school). Its not fair to keep the "smarter kid out".

That argument is BS, and I'll tell you why. It is not the poor kids fault he grew up in a poor community. It is not his fault that whatever local jokers are running his school district are wasting state funds. He is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing-- going to a state run school and graduating at the top of his class. He can't build a good school himself. Then, once he has done everything he was supposed to do, a state university tells him that his state MANDATED education isn't good enough to earn entrance at a state univesity. That is a load.

The top 10% rule has done more to level the playing field for disadvantaged and minority students than any affirmative action program in the country. It's good public policy-- turn on your TV and witness France burning right now. That is what happens when you have an isolated, uneducated minority community from which there is really no way to move up.

If the gringos up state really feel so strongly about these kids from "inferior" public school systems getting into UT and A&M over their kids who finished out of the top 10% in their super high schools, there is something they could do about it. They could demand, and elect representatives who will come up with a fair school finance plan that doesn't leave disadvantaged areas out in the cold. They could also elect and demand representatives who will get serious about school oversight to make sure that no greaseballs misuse state funding for public schools. Rick Perry's demmand that state funds be spent in the classroom was a good first step.

However, so far, they have chosen to elect people who want to cut funding and figure out a way where no money ever leaves Highland Park for a "browner" section of the state.

Firebird,

I said nothing about your schools or your situation. The fact is, one of my best friends is from RGC and she went to UT...we've debated this thing over and over and over and...you get the idea. I agree with you 100% that it's not the kids' fault that their administrators waste funds. I also agree that it is ridiculous that the universities didn't admit people because of where they were from. I'm with you there. The 10% rule does not address the real problem however, which lies with the college admissions people and the district administrators and old, stupid attitudes. Instead of requiring them to evaluate applicants based on merit, like they should have done all along, they just decided to make a blanket quota, which, while allowing people in the previously overlooked areas an opportunity to attend the state's top universities (which I am happy for), still leaves alot to be desired.

The 10% rule is a band-aid on a bullet wound.

In my post, I mentioned nothing about the Valley or underprivileged areas. Because of the 10% rule and it's inherent flaws, that situation I described above can just as easily play out in Sealy, San Angelo, Abilene, Katy, the Valley...it doesn't matter. Take one school with 100 students with 3.5+ GPA's and otherwise adequate SAT/ACT scores. Now let's say that the graduating class has 400 people. 60 kids are going to have an extremely tough time getting in, right? Now, a school down the road has just 25 kids with 3.5+ GPA's and otherwies adequate SAT/ACT score. Let's say their graduating class is also 400. Now, 15 kids will be taking spots from the 60 left in the cold from the other school...that is the problem and it can and does happen anywhere. Quota systems are lazy and sloppy solutions to problems like this.

Would it be so hard for people to take an application, some test scores, and a writing sample and evaluate people for what they actually did? It would certainly take more effort from the admissions staff and I acknowledge the fact that those people have biases and they can and do discriminate. That is wrong and it needs to change. If I'm running a university, I want the best people, I don't care where they came from or what their skin color is...that's how it should be.

I'm glad my friend got to go to UT. I don't know if she got in via the 10% rule or not, but she worked her butt off and proved that she belonged. I know there are many, many people like her, who, if given the opportunity would do very well.

I'm glad the Top 10% rule opened the door for alot of people, but it also consistently shuts the door on many equally as deserving people...it is not a solution to the problem.

The top 10% rule destroys the environment for education and growth in Texas. I graduated from The Woodlands last year and have two warrants to why the rule is terrible... 1) Girl is rejected by UT, currently attends MIT... 2) Girl is rejected by UT, accepted to Yale and Stanford... something is wrong here... racial equality can be better served by other means than affirmative action.

Mangino went off on a good rant last year because the refs stole the game from Kansas. I don't blame him for being mad. I don't remember what he said about VY, though. I just remember him saying the Big 12 and the refs were crooked.

Just reading a that for about a week and it pretty much sums up what you all talk about. Now, to the stats. The few times I'll flip to a texass game it'll be the second half and Young throws for a touchdown when they're already up enough when they could just be running.

Do you not realize that you are being clowned right now...?

Give it up bro...

I am not going to go back and forth with a kid that doesn't know **** from shampoo...

Listen...go do your homework or something...
Ask Mama if you can borrow the car...anything.
It's Friday night...
I am at home because I am 31 and have 6 kids...
Why are you at home?

Put that in your pipe and smoke it aggy...

I own my own car....so I don't see why I would need to borrow one.

I'm home cause I'm still a little sick and I'm catching up on Madden.

So if you are at home, why aren't you spending time with your family? Instead of being here finding ways to bash a 17 year old?

Sheepboy mag? Where do you come up with this?

Don't start with you? You private messaged me, and stalked me on this board posting in every thread I was in telling me to respond to a thread in a part of the board I rarely go.

The 10% rule sucks as does Rick Perry. That is all.

Rick Perry does not suck. My brother worked in the governor's office of economic development and can vouch that Rick Perry does a ton to get businesses into Texas and keep them here. Why do you think our economy (Texas) is the 11th largest in the world? Not saying he did this singlehandedly but he does accomplish a lot.

Could very well be true...but he wore a "peach" orange shirt to the lighting of the tower when UT won the college world series...c'mon dawg...he lost major points for that one.

But I am not a coward...I will just blast you with facts...and make
you look like an idiot. Continue to call me out...and talk smack...and
ol' wide-e-wide will have no choice but to take you to the dark side.

That damn near rhymed.

If he did infact wear that it was probably just the pastel version of burnt-orange, which just makes him fratty as bawls. Besides, unless he wore one of those classy button-down shirts from the co-op, it would look piss poor to wear burnt orange underneath a sport coat.

True...but he could have busted out with the Earl throwback and forever been a legend on the 40 acres...he chose instead to go with "B!tch" orange...therfore his legacy is that of ....well....a fruity kind of guy.

I may be wrong but I think that Rick Perry is an Aggy and that may have something to do with his color choice

rattler - Get the f*ck out of Texas. If you can't respect the state in which you were born, Texas no less, then you need to just leave. It'll be a better place without your sour a$$.

If you wait until about 30 mins before the game, some scalpers will sell for lower than list.

just make sure that you wear orange and look respectable because an alumnus may have an extra seat and all that they care about is having someone in orange sitting next to them. I have gotten non-student tickets for as little as 5 dollars if I wait until the game is about to start. That was a risk though because if I did not find the scalper I would not find a ticket. I always knew though that if I did not get a ticket I could always just head down to Scholz's.

The best places are right next to the parking garages on MLK. Right next to all the extreme amumni tailgaters that have been there all night.

Ya. I have also had good luck in scholz's if I see an alumnus that just wants to give their spare ticket to someone that they can enjoy the game with. I have gotten a ticket for free that way, but it may have been a once in a lifetime type of deal

I've scored free tickets through long chains of aquaintances (My dad's girlfriend's parent's friend's son's brother....I'm not exagerating). I got Rice, Colorado, and Tech tickets that way.
