I think i've figured out the coaching scheme for Plano's success. They seem to be trying a bunch of cute stuff in the first half, switching players and seeing what kind of depth they have. It looks as if the coaches are completely clueless. AND THEN, they get back to what wins football games for Plano. Plano surely has some defensive holes but somehow finds a way to shut down teams in the second halves of games. They have a lot of takeaways and are starting to get there swagger back. They have only allowed 7 second half points in 3 games. Very Impressive!:notworthy

I think the defense is getting worse they gave up over 500 yards tonight. They can't tackle, they get no pressure on the QB. The only thing the defense is doing well is causing turnovers. That is the sole reason Plano has won the last 2 games. Plano is a plus 10 in turnovers and have not turned it over once yet in 3 full games.
The offense did get cranked up and Meger & Burkhead had their best games of the year. Great Power I running attack. I got flashbacks to the eighties seeing the quick guard & tackle pull on the counter.
By the way Burkhead is the best player in the state. He had over 378 total yards including a 84 yard kickoff return. He was at his best tonight. Simply Awesome. Big love to the line upfront looks like the coaching staff is settling in on starting 5 and a good rotation.
Bottom line its win but Plano has got to do something about the run defense. We have a bunch of 5-10 175 pound players running around. This defense is reminding me of ALLEN which is NOT GOOD.
Off on vacation will check back next Thursday.

Plano played great. Rex is the real deal. Hebron played their buts off and if they hold on to the ball I think they WIN.......Once Hebron stops turning the ball over......Watch out, plano never really stopped them.......

Except for Q1 and Q3 (Plano dominated), they didn't need to stop Hebron; hebron did a good enough job of that themselves.

It seems Plano is playing ALOT of zone defense w/ deep LB support during the non-red zone plays. Inside the red, they came w/ up man coverage and held pretty well. Hebron #2 was a horse, short, fast, tough and strong.

FIFTEEN penalties for Plano. Is that a team record? Mistakes and arm-tackling on defense will bite this team later unless things change.

Penalties were killers as well as bad tackling. PWF is right, the defense better shape up or one of these days there won't be enough time in the second half to come back.
Gotta be happy with the win but these slow starts are not a good sign.
Also gotta give Hebron credit. They were playing some pretty tough ball as well. Just glad we have Rex & Company wearing Maroon.

I really wish Plano was ranked say #8 in the state instead of #2. I think so many people thought since the triplets were coming back they were going to come out in the first game and go lights out. I think what people are saying has some truth to it talking about how the coaches are really trying to find who is going to be playing on D for the rest of the season. But so many people have these high expecations and they have every right to be since they are ranked #2. I believe a W is a W. Plano still has one more game to play before district play starts but the games haven't been stellar performances. I don't think the games need to be "stellar" performances. This is the time to see who they are going to have on the D line and O line. Also what is going on with PE? I have never seen PE play like this. Do you see them doing something Plano did for the first time a few years ago and go 0-10? These games haven't even been close. But back to Plano people were already predicting Plano to lose a few games before district play and they haven't lost yet. I was crying foul a few weeks ago on the way Plano is playing but they will get better and have gotten better. It will never be what Plano want because their expectations were set way too high. Unless Plano wins state people will see Plano's season a disapointment. Not all but most people out there will think that. Allen and ET will be really hard to beat with the way Plano is playing right now. But again it is still early in the season and they are trying to figure things out and play around a little bit and see who makes a better fit on the lines. A W is a W and I am pretty sure that's all that matters :p

The DMN said that there were 1,000 people in the stands??? Could that be right?

I heard that the game was sold out, and some Plano fans who showed up late were not let into the stadium.

I agree that a W is a W, start to talk about quality of win and you can get into a real overanalysis. But there is nothing wrong with being disappointed in not going to or winning at state. Doesn't mean it wasn't a good season, just means you have higher goals. And, once again, the road to state goes through Trinity who is even better this year than last year with their numerous RB's and passing game. However, I believe that Plano is preserving Superman for later games. Just seems that way to me. When he starts getting the touches, that opens up the pass and Plano will show their full potential. Jury is out.

You missed a zero. :D It was 10,000 people (over capacity). The Carrollton Fire Marshal towed more than 50 cars.
So where is the 'D' for either team?? Plano's 'D' looks the worse I've ever seen?

I knew it couldn't be correct...just what the DMN had in their story on the game.

How many yards rushing did Burkhead get taken away by penalties?

I give plano credit, they won. If Hebron scores from the ten right before half and doesn't get an offsides flag on a kickoff and have to re-kick the ball " to superman" ..... the #2 team gets beat. Plus Hebron turned the ball over again around the ten going in for another TD........When Hebron corrects these ploblems, what out.

Hebron fought hard at home. The turnovers in the second half decimated the Hawks.
Disappointed with Plano's blocked punt, too many penalties for the team, and too much arm tackling on defense.
Hebron quarterback Justin Iwuji had a solid game, and Hebron running back Darius Staten shredded the Plano defense. Likewise, plenty of damage done by Plano's Meger and Burkhead.

How many yards rushing did Burkhead get taken away by penalties?
One of his runs in first quarter was brought back by a 10 yd. penalty on Plano.
Two nice (over 20 yds each) runs in the third quarter were brought back by 15 yd. holding penalties but both penalties affected the Hebron defense at the point of the run so I am not sure what your point would be.
I found it interesting that Darius Staten, the Hebron RB, actually had better rushing stats than Rex did for the game. Darius was a beast running on Plano! :notworthy

Here is some interesting commentary from Todd Wills in his Austin Avenue Report at texasprepxtra.com:
"Plano fans should be done complaining about the way the Wildcats' games are going. Running back Rex Burkhead is getting the bulk of his yardage in the second half, when everything really matters.
He had 149 of his 172 yards in the second half in Friday's 41-28 victory over Hebron.
The Wildcats aren't really establishing themselves as a dominant first-half team -- they were tied with Hebron in the second half.
But the fact that they are stronger than their opponents in the second half should be reassuring and give new coach Jaydon McCullough confidence his team can seal the deal and stand up to any team in the fourth quarter or overtime.
The Wildcats simply weren't in that position last year in the state semifinals against Euless Trinity, when the Trojans, like they do against most opponents, had established themselves as the more physical team, thus giving cause to reason that Plano should have gone for the victory and been in four-down mode in the first overtime of its 30-27 playoff loss to Trinity.
Instead the Wildcats settled on at worst playing on with Trinity by matching field goals, giving Trinity and not Plano the chance to win a state title the next week against Judson.
This is not meant as a second-guessing moment, but more establishing the idea that by playing the second half at a high level, which the Wildcats are doing this year, makes them an even more dangerous team once the playoffs roll around and should give Plano fans confidence in McCullough and his staff."

I agree that turnovers killed the Hawks. And that kickoff at the end of the 1st half AAAUUGGHH!! DON'T KICK IT TO 20!!!
Hebron has nothing to be ashamed of. Plano is a great team and Hebron is starting to look great as well. Clean it up a little bit and watch out.
Now the Hawks need to look forward to Jesuit and put this one behind them.
Oh yeah. Burkhead is legit. He has the strength, speed, and agility to make people miss. Even when you think he is trapped, because of poor blocking (sorry O-Line), he gets away. If anybody saw the Michigan/ND game the other day, he reminds me of that McGuffie kid for UM. There was also a stud running back named Danny Woodhead at Chadron State who he runs alot alike. Did I mention that Woodhead is the NCAA all-time leading rusher.

Which is why I've slowed on Plano this year because that guard center combo that graduated would have been hard to replace. But Carson and Burkhead are priceless.
