Do you all think Dallas Carter can take it all of the way to state? I think they can hit me back and let me know what you all think.

No...Garland will beat them in round 2...or is it wishful thinking...only time will tell...

You got to be kidding me because if we can beat them once we can beat them again. Besides I don't think they can beat John Tyler.

there gonna have a tough path to get there.....garland/jt.....cove/leander.....lufkin/longview.....abilene/slc.....

I'm not even worried because having an experienced coach such as Allen Wilson and tremendously talented team players should be enough to get us to our goal, a class 5A Division II State Championship.

I think yall will lose in the 3rd round against Leander or Cove. You guys dont have a balanced offense or good special teams and you need that in the playoffs. Thats why yall always lose early even though you have some of the best talent around.

Based on what....you havent seen Carter play THIS YEAR. I Think Leander loses to Carter based on you dont have a balanced offense or good special teams or a good defense...heck thats evident in the way yall lose to CEDAR PARK...just play the game

If Carter lose to anyone it'll be because of mistakes or either just straight getting outplayed.

When Leander beat Carter a couple of years ago they were one-dimentional but that is not the case now.

Special teams is still not great but they are not bad either.

Dude, This is a discussion forum. Not a "my team is better than yours" if you want to do that.. go find some spray paint and write it on Garland's Field House. If you want to talk football, then stay. Let us know why you think Carter is so good, let us know how Carter will make it to state. Please, use some stats too, those tend to help. Also, proofread, it's amazing what you can learn in school.

So, with that said, welcome to the forum. Granted, you can splurge some coherent insight into this powerhouse you like so much. When was the last Carter state championship? 1988. Oh wait, it was revoked due to an inelgible player. Aw, what a shame.

TO THE DISCUSSION:

I think Garland can win Second time around. The last meeting was awhile ago, and our team as matured beyond compare. We found our QB, and he settled into a passing game that gets numbers on the board. We found out our TEs can catch, that we do not need D.Sloan to win games, and that we have the desire to win! Not saying that your team does not have these qualities, just stating that it will be a different game.

Beating a team once lets you know you can beat them but if you don't blow them out the first time it says that you are not that much better than them, and the second time, the losing team usually have a bigger chip on their shoulder. Nothing is a given. You have to be even better the second time around.

A balanced offense if you are talking close to 50/50 run and pass is a huge myth. Most of the state champions in recent history have ran 75 percent to 85 percent and more. I like balance but that is common misconception that teams cannot go deep in the playoffs without a so called balanced offense. I have Carter going fairly deep.

That was a very close game the first time. Garland couldn't capitalize on 2 fumble recoveries in the 4th quarter, otherwise we would have won. Second time around, I think we'll get it.

I think Carter has their best team for a number of years, but there some real big dogs out there. In region 2 you have Garland waiting, then Copperas Cove then Longview/Lufkin and you are still not in the State Game - You then have Southlake Carroll. There are too obstacles in the way. But best of luck to Carter.

Man what are you talking about; when was the last time Garland one a state championship...uh let me take a guess how about 1999 when they barely edged by Katy. Let me set something sraight fake a** wanna be Garland Owl we beat you all once and we will beat you all again that is plain and simple. As I recall when we played you all your supposedly allstar D-1 running back, Donta Sloan, carried about 20 carries for about 14 yards. Oh yeah if you didn't know I'm smarter than you could ever be. To let you know a little fact I am #2 out of 400 students.

P.S.- If Garland so happens to get passed the first round, which I do not think is going to happen , this time there want be as many mistakes as before, and belive me you all will lose tremendously bad. Hit me back when Garland actually has something to actually bragg about.

Wow, Honestly, I am a fan of Carter but buddy Im not a fan of you. Your the type of fan that gets on message boards and makes things bad for your team. Yes I believe The Storm is Coming but heck let it get hear and see how much damage it can bring. People please excuse this kid, #2 in your class of 400 LOL. Stick to the books and let the kids play & the coaches coach. I do hope to see you in the stands vs. Creekview though. Just calm it down on here Garland/JT are both good teams and anything can happen in the playoffs

In that game D. Sloan had 22 carries for 96 yards. I just looked up the box score, and I noticed a trend. Coming into that game, D. Sloan had just rushed for over 300 yards against Ennis. Neither Johnny Wooten nor Voss Williams had a single carry in the Carter game. We kept handing it off to Sloan, hoping he would do something, but not really changing the pace up. Carter rushed 46 time for 237 yards(just over 5 yards a carry), but they also used 9 rushers compared to Garland's 5, 2 of whom were QBs. After that game, we lost D. Sloan due to grades, and we won without him. Since his return, Williams and Wooten have shared the backfield with him, as well as the occasional run from Devin McDowell, who was also hurt for the Carter game. With this diversified backfield, I would expect us to rush for a lot more than we did the first game(34 times for 100 carries) where the other 4 rushers besides Sloan account for a total of 4 yards on 12 carries.

Does Carter have a chance to go to State?.....Yes...Just like most.
I feel just like jonjon6, but I will not down grade any other teams program. Also, for those that know, the few Carter posters that we have here on 5Atexas are probably some of the most respesctable posters on this site. Don't allow one guy to cause everyone to start your own down grading sessions. It shouldn't be how many State Championships you have, but more like, are you going to get one this year? I think Garland has a shot just as Carter does, and many others do as well. It's going to be fun to see. Good luck to all! THE RED STORM IS COMING!!!!!! TAKE SHELTER!!! :D

It seem like we get this question every year...Yeah they went 10-0...but they have proven they do not have the game to make a real shot at a title...tell me why this year is any different than past years and I might consider it.

Kind in mind I think this year is the first group that has only been with Wilson.

Why Carter is a much improved team

2004 Good Pass Defense 2005 Good Pass Defense
2004 Poor Rushing Defense 2005 Great Rushing Defense
2004 Wing-T offense/No pass 2005 Wing-T/Spread Mix
2004 Conservative play calling 2005 Widened Playbook
2004 QB= great runner 2005 QB-great runner & passer
2004 Defense= Middle (weak) 2005 Defense= Middle (great)

Carter's coach Wilson is confident with Crabtree passing the ball as well as his elusiveness with defenders. Our Defense has always defensed the pass well, but our weakness last year was in the middle. We have greatly improved on that and have seemed to put a halt to some of the area's and state's top running backs. Any team facing Carter that still believe that we just have a ground attack will be stunned early. Crabtree may not put up 300+ yards (although he could), but instead they will still rack up huge rushing yards and hit you with an occassional big pass. With this complete defensive package this year, there are big hopes for this team. I know there are some great programs, but don't just count Carter out because it's cool to say.

I am not counting them just because...I don't follow them during the year and every year in the playoffs, the story is the same. You don't get that much respect cause of where you play, granted that is not your fault, but they have never proven themselves in the playoffs...It kind of like how not many people believe Longview will win state simply because they aren't given a chance against Lufkin. Every screams new year new teams, but recent history has to count for something, especially if your team is intact from the previous. Carter has a chance to turn that perception around this year, the question is will they be able to.

The comment about being #2 in the class not being anything to be proud of is classless. Come on man.

Carter has problems holding on to the football when they come up against hard-nosed well-coached defenses. You will see several of them in the playoffs.
Carter has a chance as state, but I for one would be suprised if they make it that far.

I went to the Carter/Garland game last year when Carter lost quite badly. You guys weren't to friendly to us white devils just cuz we wanted to sit on the home side(partly to see the band) :D. We heard comments such as "Man, visiting team be on the other side"

I like Dallas Carter and their jersies and your team. Good luck to you in the playoffs.

I don't think anyone jumped on you, but everyone did respond to your quote. Other than the year Leander beat Carter in the Semi's, what have you guys done? I hadn't heard of much. All the best programs lose except two before state every year. So that label your'e trying to give Carter should be given to most of us if what you say is true. Carter had a bad day on the job last night:

They gave up 7 pts, 82 yards of total offense (50 on one play).

In the second half, -27 yards, no first downs allowed.

It won't be like that anymore. It's PLAY OFF TIME FOR REAL NOW!!!

Everybody from this point will be as good or better than us. It's time to step it up!!
