Judson needs to come up with some type of passing game if they are going to win another state title.
Judson has never been known for its passing ,But when I played for them we had a great short yardage passing game, When ever we couldn't run the ball we passed the ball to the TE or would complete it to a WR for 10 to 20 yds. I just don't see that much passing to the TE's for short yardage or its not being done like we did it back in the 80's and 90's.
Come on coaches lets get a passing game together or we will be watching someone else playing in the state game.

This is how I have seen the past couple games passing wise. Against Warren the passing was good and Judson just didn't really have to pass to win so they didn't. Against SV in the first half Judson past the ball effectively to a point where the running game was picking up. After the first half the coach shut down the passing game for some reason and ran the ball most of the second half until we had to pass and then SV was ready for it. Judson's play calling just needs to get better because it seems to be threw my eyes that Judson has a good play action offense, they just don't use it enough.

Yes we do, If we do not start to pass more if the better defenses start to shut down the run then we will be forced to play our defense more than needed. This is what happened at SV, and just look what happened. Everyone knows that the only way Judson will move the ball if they have it inside their 20 is to run, because we will not throw. I will say that in the first half I was surprised by the amount of passing, but come on most hit the receivers in the hands and they dropped them. This will be last game for a while that we will get a true test and then we can try all sorts of things, it might work on some teams but when we get to the playoffs it could be a different story. I believe it all comes down to coaches calling the plays and that is and will be the problem.

O'h don't forget that we intercepted the ball with about 45 seconds left in the half and two timeouts and what did we do ... run the ball. I wonder what about 20 yards would have done, we could at tried a field goal.

4 mins left kick the FG on 4th and 10 and we had 2 TOs......Kiick the onside if you don't get it hold them to a 3 and out (which they did do) and than work on a scoring drive.....IDK what was going on they wanted to score a TD first?

Personally my senior yr we had the most talent at WR that Judson has ever had...Andre Williams was by far our best overall athlete that yr and he wasnt utilized near as much as he could have been i mean we would have some all out wars with the db's during one on ones and we knew we had the talent and had the qb to throw it there...actually two qb's to put the rock where it needed to be...i think if judson came out with short and quick passes right from the go...I.E. hitches, quick slants, and the occasion fade route off the bat people would freak!!! it would take away so much pressure from the running game people like coach hill would have to expand his defensive scheme to cover both...thats why i think SV is so good because they have such a balanced attack...if you go back and watch all the state games that we won...we had a good passing game...thinking back now i think we could have won more state games if we were more balanced but i think once ur set in a way and it works why try to change it...but people change their schemes over the yrs and figure out ways to stop the run...I.E. 8 people in the box...cant tell you how many times i remember it being 3rd and long and we would go 46 draw...LOL Sry i kind of rambled on this one...doesnt happen to often but as the mav fan posted above me this board is for fans and ex players to post their comments and opinions...:cool:

Speaking of insight, *ahem* Professor Green Lantern, do you happen to have any of your own. About football, that is. Or is your specialty the artful craft of spelling? If so, they run a great program on ESPN every year. All the young children get up, faint, then spell big words for the audience. I'm thinking that a spelling bee would be right up your alley, because you don't know a thing about football.

I'm an 87 Reagan Raider, I saw Judson win the 83 title game vs Lee, the 84 7-6 win over Reagan at Memorial Stadium and the 18-15 quarters win in 86. I attended UT with Samuels. I knew Darnell Stephens big brother, a good friend and other Judson grads. I have seen their offense change from 83 under Parker, where it was more diverse, to more power I w/o a passing game when the sprint draw was their best passing play, the change from the 50 eagle to a 4-4 defense. Judson has the talent, some refinement needs to take place. Full strength Judson went 13-1 in 2004, with a great defense and RB. Judson has made 2 finals while adjusting and switching offenses. The Rockets will be back lead by a 2000 yard rusher in the next few years.

As another Trinity poster pointed out(I don't know if it was in this thread)even Trinity lines up in the spread for a 3rd and long.Judson seems to stick with the run even if it is 3rd and 15 and everyone in the SA area knows they do it

We will see, our red zone offense is offensive at best. At this time I will say Judson beats South San 7-2. We could have used these past 3 games to our advantage, I just do not see that now, and I know that district is now here whoopee now we will win the games that we should win and when the playoffs get here back to the same stuff. I would at least these next games to work on passing and I am saying at least 25 passes a game. Most Judson folks look at them through rose colored glasses, it is time to state the facts here, they just have not played good football in the first three games.

The Rockets will be fine. Seemed to me the passing game improved but the catching game didn't. QB's scrambled and didn't panic - No interceptions. We can get some stickem and do better in the catching game. That was a great defensive game until Pville found that long pass play that worked twice. The defense coach was so mad that he scared his players into playing back and that's how they got the third score IMO. From my arnchair, I felt the coaching should have been more aggressive early instead of trying to sit on that 7-0 lead (going for it on fourth and short at midfield, etc.). I was hoping the defense would win the game for us and they did in the first half - we will start playing both halfs soon - like last year - only sooner this year. I think there will now be big improvements in the offensive line. Watch out District 27-5A!

in order to have a passing game, you have to have QBs that can actually pass. You then have to have WRs who do not drop passes that hit them in the hands (#14). You have to have an OL that can pass block and not let the QB get swallowed up by 3-4 defenders right after the ball is hiked. You need to utilize a TE. You need to run screen plays.
I honestly think Judson has the talent to have a decent passing game. They just need to utilize it correctly. I would love to see Judson run a few screen passes just to keep the defense honest. I would like to see Judson utilize a TE in the middle of the field. I would like to see Judson never pass the ball to #14 the rest of the season. He has shown that he cannot catch since his varsity career started. I would like to see some play action passes. With our running game, we should be able to pull about 5-6 quality play action passes a game.
As far as the running game goes....I would love to see us use some reverses and fake reverses. I would like to see us use some misdirection runs.....where we fake a run to the right, then toss left and vice versa.

Yeah, I was wondering why Madison has been having these big rushers while Judson hasn't had a JUDSON back since Kyle Fox. I do know that the Rockets are going further than Madison come playoff time and they are still able to beat big time talent Region 3 teams like Westfield and Northshore, and I don't see many teams hanging 66 points on the Rockets!

Im no coach....but I know if it aint broke, you dont try to fix it. Obviously the Judson system worked for over 2 decades and then they decided to change it. STUPID.
Actually, my older bro played for Judson, he even posts on here quite a bit. He played during the Chris Pryor era. He is a freakin Judson fanatic. I wish he would have gone to college and got a degree in Kinesiology and then came back to Judson to work as an assistant. Rackley was his secondary coach. I think my brother's passion for the program would definitely be infectious and the players would feed of his enthusiasm and excitement for the rich history of our program. Unfortunately he chose a different vocational path.....but he will always be jock and sports will always be his passion.
I will say this......we are missing a big bruising back. I say make Shaw play ironman. He is a beast. He should play FB, WR, CB, and KR. I would even use Shaw at QB on a few gadget plays. I would also use McAllister as a WR. #14 couldnt catch a cold last year, much less a football....this year he got everyone's hopes up in the Warren game, but since then, he has turned back into Stonehands. I say we put Stickem on his hands.
BTW, I was telling my brother this during the game. It must suck to be selected for varsity and then to find out that your position is WR. When the Judson system is ran properly, WR is probably the most useless positions on the roster.

Yeah, I was wondering why Madison has been having these big rushers while Judson hasn't had a JUDSON back since Kyle Fox. I do know that the Rockets are going further than Madison come playoff time and they are still able to beat big time talent Region 3 teams like Westfield and Northshore, and I don't see many teams hanging 66 points on the Rockets!
Maybe you can go to the Green's household and ask them since it may be located in the JISD locale or ask one of our school board members.
