Hard to argue with anything on that list.
Only real surprise is Klein Forest staying in after the close call against Langham Creek.
Apart from that, it's a good list. Well done :D

See 23-13 was correct score, not 48-0
Anyway thought Converse would drop a little farther down

I like the list but maybe one problem.
Madison should have moved in. Tivy is a legit 4A team and although Madison gave up 56 points they managed to show their offense can do alot for them (especially when you got a sophomore RB who can score 9 TDs)
I honestly would have been upset if SV wasn't ranked ahead of Judson. Good list!

I will admit to being wary of a team that needs 69 points to win a game.

How is it that Northshore dropped in the rankings. They have a solid team.
I think the Woodlands should be at 13. Their win over Katy was a revenge game, plus Katy is not up to speed right now.

Champ and KT both have now seen The Woodlands and North Shore 1st hand and think that The Woods have the edge. Obviously that's just speculation given that they haven't played each other, but that's what rankings are in Week 2.
This weekend is full of awesome matchups which will be clear things up for several of these teams in a hurry. Here's to hoping that Hurricane Ike won't ruin it for us this weekend (updates in the Yard)...

Because they struggled mightily with a Katy team that looked pretty dang ugly this week. If NS runs the table in the regular season they will be ranked #2 headed into the playoffs-most likely.
Their schedule is very deep.

I second this! What did North Shore do except beat both teams in front of them, both of them ranked at the time, to deserve being dropped 3 places from 8th to 11th? Hell, no disrespect, but Judson lost, and stayed in the top 10. And, congrats to The Woodlands, terrific game against Katy, but to jump all the way into the top 10? Come on guys, what gives?
This is the second time in the history of this site, where North Shore drops in the polls, after winning a game. ??? I don't understand this logic.

Maybe because you could only manage a 10-6 victory over a team that got spanked 47-0. I wouldn't call it a 'revenge' game. The revenge games are still coming up for The Woodlands in district against Conroe and College Park.
I can understand your concerns about Judson though. In the end, rankings are meaningless. If anything, your boys should use it as a motivating tool if they feel they've been underrated.

You can't please everyone. If Judson had been dropped behind NS then you would get all the Judson people squawking about how they beat y'all in the semis. It's a pretty weak argument when you consider how much HS teams change from year to year but you KNOW that's how they would react.
NS fans need not to complain. How do you think Pearland fans feel? We can win every game from here on out by 21 and it wouldn't help our cause much because we don't really play anyone. At least you guys can prove yourselves worthy before the playoffs start.

I attended the Woodlands game and your State Final game last year.Based on what I saw, The Woodlands are a 2 TD team better than Trinity. Keep in mind that Katy team hung tough with GPNS the week before. Wouldn't mind betting that Katy would beat John Curtis who you guys apparently had a few issues with. They were right to be moved up that high.
Whether they can keep playing that well, who knows? But I would imagine the rankings are being based on what has transpired so far this season.

In my opinion (of course), there are a couple issues to consider when looking at what happened to the rankings this week.
1. The initial top 25 was put together in May
2. We have two weeks of results to put against the original rankings
This is a human poll, so we are willing to move things around when necessary in order to get the best teams in the proper spots.
Judson is the only top 10 casualty so far this year (lost to a ranked SV team), so that part of the rankings holds steady so far.
When the bros and I were initially hashing out the pre-season ranking, we all agreed that The Woodlands had top 10 talent. However, we had questions about QB play and whether or not the defense would make the required progression from last season. Most importantly in our view, we wondered if they were ready to play at the required level of a contender. I believe they are ready after seeing them in person. Granted, they haven't been pushed in their first two games but it is clear to me they have all the pieces necessary to be a great team. And this without their best player perhaps, senior WR Alex Tweedy, who is set to return in district play.

Well, looking at what's transpired so far, Lufkin may be lucky to be ranked at this point.
The Pack struggled to beat Lee in Week 0 and then Lee was shutout 21-0 by Longview...a team that Allen beat by 2 TD's.
Then, this week, Lufkin squeaked by John Tyler who was beaten 42-14 the previous week by 4A Texas High.
We love Lufkin's potential, but they just haven't shown much so far.

I understand that Judson should still be ranked high because they lost to a ranked team but NS won against 2 ranked teams and dropped below Judson. The only thing I see wrong is switch NS and Judson unless you have seen both teams in person and can give a good comparison because their records lean toward NS

Y'all need to realize this isn't a typical AP or Coaches poll for the NCAA. Those polls have been accused of sticking too much to their original rankings and inching teams up and down despite their on-field performance. At least this one will shake things up based on performance.

I look at it this way. (keep in mind I haven't seen any of these three teams play this year, so this is an outsiders perspective). NS beat Katy in a close, and what could be considered a rivalry game for all intents and purposes. But 10-6 is 10-6 any way you slice it. That combined with The Woodlands hanging 47-0 on Katy the very next week is something deserving of some attention.
What I'm saying is, while North Shore remains undefeated in what looks to be the toughest schedule in the state, teams like TWHS have shown the ability to hang with the top 10 in the state where they weren't considered during preseason. It's not a slight to NS, just a compliment to teams like SV and TWHS.

Elite is a frame of mind. For "most" folks in Texas- 5A is elite. However many schools in smaller classes have beaten some of the schools in larger classes. Cove did extremely well in 4A, and I enjoyed the two years there, but I also enjoyed competing in the largest classification of Texas HS Football, before our enrollment put us in 4A for two years. I used the word "elite" because of the mindset of the majority of Texas 5A footballers, not becuase the accomplishments of the Dawgs in 4A was inferior, their accomplishments were outstanding! By the way you don't know me either.:)

The reason NS seemed to struggle is because Katy at the time was a dominant team and had a 16 game win streak and I am sure the coach took it easy and ran the ball to keep their offense off the field. You only need one more point than the other team to win not have a 37-0 score.

I think the poll is fairly accurate. I also believe that this poll will look very different by seasons end. It takes about 5 games to tell what a team is made of. Some teams are better or at least as good as advertised others not so much. Anyway, the games are played on the field not on paper. Polls don't matter. The true number one will be determined on a cold december day on the field of play, as it should be.

I like the top 25 this week, but I would disagree with Colleyville Heritage being ranked when they have yet to play any quality compitition. Their wins have come againest mediocre teams and them being ranked at this point is a stretch, but if they can win againest Plano East and Fossil Ridge than I have no problem with them being ranked somewhere in the 20`s. I also would like to argue that Coppell is a stretch they also have yet to beat any quality compitition, but if they can win their 3 non district games than I would see them as a possible 25. I like where Flower Mound is ranked, because they have yet to play an opponent that wows me, but they have looked impressive. If Flower Mound can find a way to beat Desoto when the 2 play I foresee the Jaguars being a very good team this year of course that is considering they can beat Haltom and North Crowley first. No argument with Trinity being #1 they still look like the best team in high school football and the team to beat. Plano is a solid #2 that could challange Trinity for their #1 ranking this season. I think Abilene should be ranked ahead of Southlake Carroll, because of the way Abilene beat them last year and these rankings always seem to take the year before into consideration, also consider the way Abilene has been playing lately. The rest of the top 25 looks good this should make for an excellent high school football season!

I think jumping The Woodlands from 23 to 7 indicates either the problem with polls or a favoritism for Katy, as in "Katy is really a good team this year they just ran into a couple of really, really good teams early". (That isn't a real quote, so don't go looking.) My point is that if Katy is valued high that raises the quality of The Woodlands' win, but if it was just a good team against a poor team it doesn't justify a 14 place jump. Plano East appears to have been seriously overrated as well which, in the same way, brings into question the value of Flower Mound and Abilene's wins over PESH. In fact one could argue that Abilene's thrashing of PESH is more impressive than The Woodlands' woodpile visit with Katy.

Absolutely, let's see how Lufkin handles Longview @ Lobo stadium next week. From someone who has been watching Lufkin for the last 10 years, it will be another year of Lufkin fans over hyping their team. That JT game shouldn't have even been close if Lufkin is as good as some folks think they are.
In a few weeks, we should know how good Lufkin really is. Early exits in the POs the last 2 years has made a skeptic out of me.
I guess that was a long winded way of saying the ranking suits this Lufkin fan just fine.

The rest of the top 25 looks good this should make for an excellent high school football season!

...but I would disagree with Colleyville Heritage being ranked when they have yet to play any quality compitition. Their wins have come againest mediocre teams and them being ranked at this point is a stretch, but if they can win againest Plano East and Fossil Ridge than I have no problem with them being ranked somewhere in the 20`s.....
What justifies Flower Mound to be ranked #20 when Colleyville Heritage isn't deserving of being ranked? They're both 2-0.
Flower Mound's first four opponents are winless - 0-8 so far. FM's next opponent is Haltom (yawn) followed by North Crowley (who will start 0-4). We won't know anything about FM until the DeSoto game.
Clovis East (0-1) hasn't played again so it's hard to know how good they are. Irving MacArthur (1-2) lost to Plano and CHHS, but beat Mansfield last night. PESH (0-2) lost to Abilene and FM. Fossil Ridge (0-2) lost to Arlington Lamar and FM. Both could have 0-4 starts.
My point is - it's hard to know whether CHHS OR Flower Mound are top 25 material as neither has played quality competition but yet you concluded that FM is and CHHS isn't after two games.
After CHHS plays PESH tonight and then Fossil Ridge there will enough material for a comparison and to determine if either is any good.

I'm thinking Naaman Forest might creep into the Top 25.

With both SV and Judson losing to unranked opponents, it looks like the shake up of the top 25 will continue!

Colleyville 56
Plano East 7
quality opponent or not thats a beat down. colleyville beats fossil ridge and they will easily be in the teens not the twenties

Bring on Madison! Time for a tip-toe into the top 25. 24 or 25 would be a good ranking at this point.
