View Full Version : Now that I'm fired up

Now that I'm fired up, it's time to revise my firing thread. For a minute, pretend that all the teams that got fired and made the playoffs got rehired. You know that's not true because I still think some of the fired teams won't go far, but you need to play along. I'm going to fire 48 teams and that means I'll have to eat my words if I get some wrong. I know it's probable, but why concede defeat now! ;)

lonny23

San Angelo Central- On the road, with a losing record, from a weak district, against a better team with playoff experience.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:43 PM
Midland Lee- These guys are pretty good on paper, but they lose games to the good teams. It's supposed to be close and playing in Sweetwater should help, but I have to go with Summit. Lee's hope is that Summit is shell-shocked from last week.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:45 PM
Keller Fossil Ridge- They did good to beat Denton Ryan, but DR is not Trinity. The Trojans are a lot better than DR and I have to go with them. KFR is a pretty good team, but not that great.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:47 PM
Arlington- I know they have the better record, but they come from a worse district. That always means something to me in the playoffs and the Colts just didn't play as well down the stretch. This is a close game, but I favor Plano East.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:48 PM
Dallas Skyline- I dogged for not believing in Berkner, but 9 is a worse district than 10 and Skyline is worse than Berkner.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:50 PM
Mesquite- This is a hard one for me. The Skeeters made a good run last year and snuck in this year, too. Rowlett seems to be a pretty good team and I give them a slight advantage.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:51 PM
A&M Consolidated- These guys have more bark than bite. Their offense isn't good enough to offset the good Woodlands defense. Give me the Highlanders.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:53 PM
Pflugerville- I have to go against the boys at home. They're a good team, but they come up short against the better teams. Westlake might not beat them by much, but I have to give them the advantage with the 9-game winning streak coming in and the big win last week.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 02:57 PM
Aldine MacArthur- This is a close game and all the numbers say so. I'm going with 17 being a little better district than 18 and the Bobcats Calpreps advantage.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:00 PM
Fort Bend Kempner- This isn't an endorsement of Hastings because I don't like them, either. Somebody has to lose and I pick these guys because 19 is a better district (not great) and Kempner just doesn't like success.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:01 PM
Houston Lamar- These guys are pretty good. Too bad they have to play Westfield. They have a horrendous district and Westfield plays in one of the better one's.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:02 PM
Pearland- These guys gave North Shore a scare last year. I'll say they lose on the road, but they're a good team with the wrong opponent who has been rolling lately.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:04 PM
Seguin- They're the 3rd best team in a weak district playing a perrenial power that has their confidence back. I have to go with Judson and I've been giving reasons all week.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:05 PM
Victoria Memorial- I just can't pull the plug and say these guys will break off a win. They seem to be better, but still had a losing record. O'Connor could be shell-shocked, but Padron is a good coach and I have to favor his boys to win again.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:07 PM
Eagle Pass- They play in the worst district in the state and were a 3rd place team. They play a 1st place team from a district that's a little better. Advantage LaJoya.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:08 PM
Edinburg- They play a better team from the best district south of San Antonio. I'm going to lean heavily on 32-5A in the early rounds.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:11 PM
Lubbock Monterey- I know they've had a few runs in the past, but didn't get going this year. They're on the road against a comparable opponent. Home field say EP Coronado.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:12 PM
Weatherford- This might get ugly. The champ is playing the 3rd place team and the champ is in a better district.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:13 PM
Irving MacArthur- They get to test my keep it close theory. They'll fight SLC, but don't have the horses to win. Maybe they finally get beat good.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:14 PM
Cedar Hill- I dogged 7 all year. Why stop now? I'll take Allen.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:16 PM
El Paso Eastwood- I'll take the Sandies with this actually being a neutral game. Eastwood is one of the weakest playoff teams.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:17 PM
North Crowley- This is a hard game. NC came alive last week after playing mediocre all year. Midland has been steady and good. I'll take the Bulldogs.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:18 PM
Denton Ryan- I've been waiting for this one. SGP has a bear of a team and that trumps Florence's playoff experience.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:19 PM
DeSoto- 7 is a lucky number in my firings. Plano is just better.

lonny23
11-09-2005, 03:20 PM
Carrollton Creekview- Carter won't win it all, but they'll beat these guys.

Lonny 23,
I am the guy who gave you a hard time after Converse's little trouble down Houston way. I think I like you better when Converse is an underdog.(That's rare.) I have grown to respect your posts. Good luck to you and Converse.(except if they play Northshore) Let's talk some smack if our teams meet up in the semis. But seriously, make it home safe.

Seguin- They're the 3rd best team in a weak district playing a perrenial power that has their confidence back. I have to go with Judson and I've been giving reasons all week.

What a damn homer and hater. How can you fire Seguin and not Judson? Fact is, this weekends matchup is really evenly matched. Could go either way. If you have seen either of the two teams play you would know that. Being that the game is so evenly matched, either team could win. The winner of the game is probably going to have the same success. Winner probably makes it to the Semi's and loses there.

Homer?....Lonny? Who would've known?

But seriously Lonny, you obviously haven't been paying attention. According to the experts from the south of the city, North Shore will be getting blown out this weekend. I've been trying to call my bookie but there's this unending laughter in his voice mail. Go figure

SeguinMatador.....easy big fella. I respect what you are saying. This game can go either. I prefer it to go Judsons way, but hey, thats me. And if you are just now figuring out the Lonny23 is a "homer" for our Rockets, you haven't been paying attention

I believe in uniformity. All firings have come one at a time and that's why I continued it. They kick you off of Survivor one at a time, too.

I'll put a lot of info in one post, but 48 firings is too much. I found that people read your posts more often when they're shorter vs. a real long post.

I've got news for you. I support the school I graduated from. I haven't lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1991, though. I'm not switching off of Judson. There isn't a place in this state that I wouldn't go to watch them play if I have a chance to. As long as I'm in the Air Force, I won't live in any town very long. That's the nature of my job.

Well just tell your brass to ship you back to Randolph and you can watch CJ every week! Too bad that you weren't here this year to see what has transpired. I'll tell you that in mid-season when I saw them against Churchill, Seguin, SC, and SM would have beaten them, period! I don't know how much they have improved since then, but I'm still taking Seguin Friday. I don't know how you can make some of the statements that you've made without ever seeing any of the teams in person. To base all that you say on stats that you read is just flat out not accurate! To back up this all you have to do is look at SV's stats on the year in the games that they've played and you wouldn't think that they would be the 26 champ! The only stat that really matters is the scoreboard where they dominate!

There's no doubt that Judson has started to play better. The real debate is if they have done enough to go deep in the playoffs. I sent Harry Reese (Randall's dad) a stat one day that showed how Judson held their opponents under their average scoring more than Clemens did. When you look at defense, you have to consider the players you have lining up talent-wise, but also the strength of the opponents offense. Clemens held their opponents to less points, but Judson played relatively better defense because their opponents were stronger offensively. I'll run that stat, too.

SV is greater than the sum of their parts and I do consider that with certain teams. I say, "this is what this team can and will do regardless of what the stats say."

I look at how teams perform and if they're trending up or down and if they win by enough points and if they play good against good opponents. It's more than just the stats. Yes, I would be that much further along if I saw the teams. It's impossible for me to see everybody, but I try to give as good analysis as I can with what I have. I'm going to be wrong, but I do a good job and I think most people know that.

I had to leave Randolph because they went to all civilians in the Squadron, but I still might go back to Headquarters in a few years and Lackland and JPPSO are always a possibility. I can't complain about leaving Randolph and staying in Texas without having to go overseas! :D

I totally support our armed forces but I have never, and still do not beleive in all of the civilians working on our bases! Especially the ones that mow grass and clean toilets for $20.00 per hour! Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not, but if you are on a base I truly beleive that you should be told when and where you are to report for duty tomorrow morning without having a choice in the matter! I have many friends in the military from enlisted to high ranking officers and have more respect for all of them than the highest ranking civilian!

I don't think the grass mowers or janitors get $20. That stuff is contracted out for somebody else to come in and do it. Most of the civilians on Randolph are former Air Force people, so not much changes!

The contractors over here bank the dough. I met the biggest redneck country boy from Mississippi a couple days ago. This dude fishes for catfish by hand, but he has an engineering degree and has done a lot of welding. He just signed another contract to work in Iraq for $140/hour!

lonny23
11-10-2005, 10:55 AM
Klein Forest- Cove has all the advantages: Better record, better district, and better players.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 10:56 AM
Bastrop- 15 beats 16 most of the time and we're talking about a 1st-3rd matchup here.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 10:58 AM
Dallas White- These boys will be raising the flag by the 3rd quarter. Who knows, the fans may be razing the flag! Dallas football stinks.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 10:59 AM
South Garland- This game will go south very fast. Longview is better.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:00 AM
Killeen Harker Heights- Hey, Lufkin is better and Harker is a 3rd place team.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:01 AM
Round Rock- Hays is a hard team to beat. I have to go with them over a somewhat average Round Rock team.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:03 AM
Aldine Nimitz- As you can see, I went with 17 in these matchups. This should be a decent game, but Cy Creek gets the win.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:04 AM
Fort Bend Clements- Katy is better and comes from a better district (Imagine that!) :D

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:06 AM
Houston Madison- I'm going with the idea that a totally crappy district doesn't help you win playoff games.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:07 AM
Clear Creek- These guys are 3-7, but not from a top 5 district. That makes them bad enough to lose to Deer Park.

That's 10X what he'd get in Mrsippy! I saw some of those contractors that were beheaded and hung from a bridge a year ago there. With this in mind, I'd take the $14.00 per hr. All I can say is that I hope we don't see anymore of that again.

God for bid that we americans should parade a few prisoners around in their birthday suits! Shame on us! Terrorists and the media can both go straight to hell because they are both cowards and make me sick to my stomach!

Houston Strake Jesuit- These guys don't have a prayer! OK, they have that. :D I just think Marshall is better.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:16 AM
Houston Westside- That district is horrible and Humble plays good teams hard.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:16 AM
Galveston Ball- For cheating.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:18 AM
Alvin- Wouldn't win if they had Nolan Ryan and the Chipmunks! :p They are a last-minute sacrificial lamb without a full week to prepare.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:20 AM
Schertz Clemens- This is the upset special. Madison is scrappier than in years past and the Judson Stadium magic hasn't worn off yet. The Henry injury will take it's toll this week.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:21 AM
Corpus Christi Ray- Losing teams from CC don't beat SA playoff teams.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:22 AM
McAllen Memorial- Bradley Stephens has to be accounted for. Nixon is one of the teams that won't get beat because of his talent. They've gotten better as the year has gone along.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:24 AM
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo- They cost too much to cover in these tight financial times! :D OK, the best district in the Valley beats another one.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:25 AM
San Marcos- It's very hard to knock out SV, even at home. Give me the Rangers.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:26 AM
Corpus Christi Carroll- These guys are good, but they drew the tough Jay team that's on a roll. I have to go with SA on this one.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:27 AM
Mission Sharyland- Laredo wins with unity. OK, they have the better team with the single loss to Nixon. 29 is bad, but 30 isn't much better.

lonny23
11-10-2005, 11:28 AM
Weslaco- I don't care if they are at home. 32 is tough and wins this one, too.

Xcuse me sir. Please re think that. Lets see, Carter has been respectable lately. Lincoln lost, I think in two OT's to the great Kilgore team in last years finals. Kimble lost only to Carter this year. Woodrow is undefeated, has the #1 recruite in the state, and already has two Hiesman winners. SOC plays some ball, as does skyline. :)

Schertz Clemens- This is the upset special. Madison is scrappier than in years past and the Judson Stadium magic hasn't worn off yet. The Henry injury will take it's toll this week.

Lonny what do you think are the toss up games where there is no clear favorite this week

Judson vs Seguin
SV vs SM

He's just a d@mn bandwagoner! He always picks on me for supporting Victoria Memorial, but at least I support my hometown team and didn't just jump on a successful program's bandwagon! :D

Good for you and stick with that! :) I know that I'll always support SC no matter what. The only way that I'll ever root against them is if my son is ever on a team playing against them! SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOL NO MATTER WHAT! :)

Are you going to make the 3 hour drive to support your boys or not? Heck, since you know they are going to win, they don't need your support at all, just come to enjoy the celebration at the end of the ball game. If you do this you won't have to leave San Angelo until about 6:30 or so! :p :D

You know the story with me and at least owe it to me to not perpetuate the feelings some people think. I don't pick where I live, but I did want to live in Converse when I knew I had to move to San Antonio. I was proud enough of the team to live in a crappy town. You know it doesn't matter when I started going to the games because I became one of the better fans when I showed up. I wanted to see Judson long before I ever moved to San Antonio. I'm not lying when I say that I started rooting for them a long time ago from afar. I'll never forget when my dad looked at a Texas map and saw where Converse was and said, "they're good because they're located next to a military base." To this day, I still root for the military schools.

I should've just left it as District 9 stinks. They do play better in 4A than 5A.

District 1, you're fired. Two teams left on Saturday and the other 1 is done next week. Maybe you'll be good at football one day, but not this year.

lonny23
11-12-2005, 05:00 AM
District 2, you're outta here. One is done and the other 2 won't beat 3-5A.

lonny23
11-12-2005, 05:02 AM
7 is done. You played like crap all year and this was no surprise since several people said you'd get swept and it happened. This was the worst year for Arlington in my memory.

lonny23
11-12-2005, 05:04 AM
I'm firing you 8. You swept 7, but you're going to lose to 5/6 next week.

lonny23
11-12-2005, 05:06 AM
10 is axed. Your 2 teams left will lose next week.

lonny23
11-12-2005, 05:07 AM
12 got swept out of the way. You were good this year, but not the best. I expected more from you guys.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:22 AM
16, you're gone. You won't make it out of next week with Hays playing Lufkin.

Thanks for participating 18. Pick up your "We Stink" t-shirts at the door.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:24 AM
I'm firing you now 20. You won't get another win out of Kempner.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:26 AM
That weak district sunk your Battleship, 21. 22 is just better.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:30 AM
24 is finished. Losing teams can break off a few wins, but I think this streak stops now.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:33 AM
Who's next? Boy, I need to focus, but can't quite remember what I'm supposed to say. For some reason Barry Bonds comes to mind. I think he's number 25. Yeah, it's that district in San Antonio that doesn't play anybody and loses to a much stronger district every year.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:34 AM
Boys and girls, what comes after 25? No, it's 27and they're requested to leave the premises next week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:36 AM
OK, we canned 27, but that means we had to can 28 first. There's a food chain in Region 4 and this district gets the short end of the stick in Bi-District each time they play SA.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:38 AM
30 is out of here because I don't think LaJoya beats Harlingen. It would be nice if they did and played at Judson in 2 weeks.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:39 AM
PSJA is in TROUBLE. I think Nixon is peaking now and takes out 31.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:45 AM
You're fired The Woodlands. Your offense was bad most of the year, but I thought you could win a game. You had a decent year, but didn't cut it.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:46 AM
Westlake is done. I guess Pflugerville just had too much talent.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:47 AM
Alief Hastings can turn their playbooks in now. It was a tossup game and you didn't pull through.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:48 AM
EP Coronado you're welcome to show up. Monterey was almost as good, but you got destroyed playing in your back yard.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:51 AM
I'm not happy about this next one. Longview, you're fired and wasted my time this year. I had high hopes for you and you fumbled.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:52 AM
Deer Park is outta here. Why did you lose to a 3-7 team that wasn't exactly peaking going into the playoffs? You beat them once this year.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:53 AM
Houston Memorial. I guess I should've put more stock in you having a weak district. Better luck next year.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:54 AM
Ft. Bend Marshall just blew a perfect season. I thought you could make a good run, but it wasn't to be.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 05:55 AM
San Benito just lost a home game. You were from a better district, but I guess I should've put more stock in you losing and earlier game to PSJA.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:02 AM
Pflugerville is welcome to join the party, while A&M is still fired. I'll take the Panthers this week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:06 AM
Kempner is still fired. I say they lose to Cy Fair this week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:07 AM
Lubbock Monterey will not beat Abilene. No cake for you, either.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:08 AM
South Garland gets to come back. They beat Longview and Lake Highlands didn't.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:12 AM
Clear Creek can stay fired. They won't beat West Brook.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:14 AM
I have to bring either Cy Falls or Strake Jesuit back. Come 'on back Strake.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:15 AM
PSJA is tempting. I'm still going to say Nixon beats them and they can stay fired.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:16 AM
EP Franklin, gas not used is gas not wasted! :p I'll take Summit this week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:18 AM
Plano East, you're gonna also feel like Trinity is coming at you from the north, south, and west.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:19 AM
Berkner fans can let me have it. Rowlett is going to ruin your perfect season this week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:21 AM
Here's the big one. One team is playing better and at home this week. Westfield, you're fired.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:22 AM
Like the signature says, O'Connor it's time retire and that happens this week.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:23 AM
LaJoya, I like you and your stadium. It's time for you to go, though. 32 is a better district and Harlingen beats you.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:24 AM
Allen can stop playing now. It's going to get ugly vs. SLC.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:25 AM
Amarillo doesn't have what it takes. Midland is better than they were the last time they beat you.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:26 AM
Plano, your perfect quest ends this week. SGP is more battle-tested and knocks you off.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:28 AM
Garland is done. I have a little more faith in Carter this year and think they can beat Garland again.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:29 AM
Leander, you have a good team, but I think the dream ends against Cove.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:30 AM
Hays, you won't catch Lufkin napping again this week. You had a real good season.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:30 AM
Cypress Creek doesn't have the personnel to beat Katy. Give me the Tigers.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:32 AM
La Porte is gone. Give me another week of Humble.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:33 AM
Clark better go get Lewis because they need a lot of direction in figuring out a way to beat Madison. Give me the Mavs.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:34 AM
Jay is a good team to fire. I just don't think they'll beat SV in November.

lonny23
11-13-2005, 06:35 AM
Last, but not least is Laredo United. I have to rely on 32 being a lot better district and Los Fresnos being more battle-tested.

Oiler1
11-13-2005, 09:02 AM
Clear Creek can stay fired. They won't beat West Brook.

You should rehire them for this one. The Madison and West Brook game had to be the sloppiest game I've seen all season (West Brook players were dropping like flies). Your quote that they are not peaking is wrong (scoring 53 points in the final game which was elimination counters that theory). The offense is firing on all cylinders and with 17 athlete's that run 4.5 or better, they are just a young team that has a brand new coaching staff on both sides of the ball that can just flat out hurt you in the blink of an eye. Makng an 80 yard drive with no time outs and kicking the winning field goal with 12 seconds left shows a lot of character and confidence (Deer Park loses).

You can fire them when it comes to meeting Katy however because their little jaunt into post season will probably end there. But the experience should help them into next season. Not bad for an 0-10 the previous season.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 09:56 PM
Yeah you are right. It just pisses me off that someone waist so much time putting together stuff like this and discredits their whole post with bias.
I just gave you the facts.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 09:58 PM
John Tyler- We have a first year coach with a team that may still feel the after affects of the Longview train. I'll give Garland a slight edge playing in Mesquite.
That was a good call.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 09:59 PM
South Garland- This game will go south very fast. Longview is better.
WRONG!

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:00 PM
Houston Strake Jesuit- These guys don't have a prayer! OK, they have that. :D I just think Marshall is better.
Hey, they won.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:01 PM
Cy Falls- I'll take the stingy Memorial defense and 7 game winning streak.
Bad call.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:05 PM
Alvin- Wouldn't win if they had Nolan Ryan and the Chipmunks! :p They are a last-minute sacrificial lamb without a full week to prepare.
Afler losing 42-19, they could've used Nolan Ryan and the Chipmunks!:D

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:06 PM
Schertz Clemens- This is the upset special. Madison is scrappier than in years past and the Judson Stadium magic hasn't worn off yet. The Henry injury will take it's toll this week.
You knew I'd have to mention this one!:p

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:08 PM
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo- They cost too much to cover in these tight financial times! :D OK, the best district in the Valley beats another one.
I got this one wrong.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:09 PM
San Marcos- It's very hard to knock out SV, even at home. Give me the Rangers.
3 for 3 in the 25-26 matchups!

lonny23
05-29-2006, 10:16 PM
Midland Lee vs. Mansfield Summit
Arlington vs. Plano East
Garland Rowlett vs. Mesquite
Pflugerville vs. Austin Westlake
Alief Hastings vs. Fort Bend Kempner
Midland vs. North Crowley
Garland vs. Tyler John Tyler
Cypress Creek vs. Aldine Nimitz
Houston Madison vs. Beaumont West Brook
Schertz Clemens vs. San Antonio Madison
San Antonio Jay vs. Corpus Christi Carroll
Laredo United vs. Mission Sharyland
Some of these weren't very close. 5 were decided by more than 2 TD's. Only 2 were decided by less than a TD.

lonny23
05-29-2006, 11:05 PM
OK, I had to go back through to see who I picked in the playoffs and I see that I didn't finish the playoffs in this thread, but I know who I picked in the later rounds. I hit a snag in Week 12, but was good in the other weeks except Week 15.

Bi-District 39-9
Area 14-10
Week 3 10-2
Week 4 6-0
Week 5 1-2
Week 6 1-0

My goal is to beat the 71-23 this year. I want 80.
