I know the playoffs have started and it is real intense so just to have a little fun.
The Secondary
CB Leonard Hewitt-Lufkin
CB Chykie Brown-Northshore
FS Just Agnew-SLC
SS-Cortez Beall-Longview
NB-Will Thompson-Katy
vs
The WR's
WR Dez Bryant-Lufkin
WR Clint Renfro-SLC
WR McKay Jacobsen-SLC
WR Ralp Thomas-Lufkin
WR EJ Shankle-Lufkin
who do you think would win the overall battle. Oh yeah Greg McElroy is the QB.

The sceondary. After a series, a couple of those receivers would be on the sideline with injuries because of the way Will Thompson and Cartez Beall manhandled them.

There is no way they can cover all of those receivers. I don't think there would ever be more speed going up against each other in high school.

I'd have to go with the receivers. That's to much talent to try to contain at the same time. That Renfro kid is sneaky. Everytime you look up, he's hiding out 10 yds behind the entire secondary.

That's when Hewitt's 0-60 speed comes in handy. That kid can break on the ball. I'd still have to go with the DBs

Hewitt's got the speed to run with anyone but he can't cover them all.

Many cb's have great speed but Hewitt is just one of those special cb's that have a knack for the ball and he has great great closing speed once you think you have him beat. It is almost like he toy's with the qb and the wr at times.
BigArab

That's why I would mix it up.
Leonard man to man with the best deep threat.
Chykie Playing a bump and run on the good mid receiver
Cartez covering the middle of the field and the flats
Agnew playing deep middle
Will sopping up the other flat and doublind up with Leonard.

Reminds me of Deion in that respect. I don't think we'll ever know how fast Neon Deion really is. No matter who he was up against, he always seem to have one gear faster than you. As Coach Jones at Longview called it "Come and getcha speed"

You gave the offense McElroy, give the defense a good pass rusher to even it out. I'll take the Defense if I can have Mandela Roberts(Lufkin-LB)! :D

No one can cover all those fresh legs for an entire game.

One of the Lufkin coaches told me this about Hewitt. He might not have the fastest 40 time on the Lufkin team although he is close (EJ Shankle does) but he is the fastest on the field and he has another gear when he needs it. That was before his acl tear so i do not know if he would still say that. He does not look like he has lost a step if any to me??

ok...Who is throwing the ball. It doesn't matter how good the recievers are if the QB can't get the ball to them. I say defense unless you have a "thread the needle" QB.

Just curious... Why do you have 3 Lufkin for the WR is it because its your team or what? I thought there are alot of other teams are really good for WR?

in other thread someone listed the best DB's and the question was asked who would be able to beat these guys. I responded with a combo of Carroll and Lufkins receivers. That is why there are only Lufkin and Carroll receivers on that list

id say WR...if mcelroy throws a ball past the defender, and even if renfro doesnt burn him, he still has that diving catch skill and can beat him that way, itd come down to that IMO

i'll go one step further and add Cody Williams to the "pass-rusher" list....with him and Roberts rushing, McElroy wouldn't have the time to release the ball....and if he did, a few of those great receivers would probably be layed out with concussions...can't speak for the other DB's, but i know some concussion-like blows would be handed out by Cortez...3 knock-out blows so far this year......plus, Hewitt would be picking them off and scoring TD's.............got to go with the DB's...............that would be a fun flag-football game to watch.....

Somebody give me an offensivelineman now to block Cody Williams. And to make it more interesting since there is still Mandela out there what about Dimitri Nance at RB.

If they just showed up to play the the DB's would get the node. However if you allowed McElroy to work with the Recievers for a day or two and tought the non-SLC recievers the SLC routes then the Recievers would win! SLC is about timing and knowing where the recievers are going to be.

if north shore and westfield put their teams together with
the north shore coaches
and lufkin and slc put their teams together with all their
coahes..
the ns/westfield team would win by 50 points.....

and that is a measure of team sports because of....? i got to figure that it only shows a lack of coaching when a team "wins" the recruiting battle yet doesn't win a state title. how many d-1 recruits does it take for kt to win a title? not very many seemingly. and do the teams with the most d-1 recruits get a ring for failing to win with the most talented team? now that you brought it up, i would take most any well coached team against any all-star team ever.
