Things could not of been any worse.
To start the night, i look down and low and behold...Keith Baker, our do it all guy...out....as in NOT PLAYING. our back-up...Freshman Javelle Allen was QB (ill get to him later). On Top of that, our Starting Running Back is still out.
We looked like a competely different team tonight, im talking...HORRIFIC.
Offense: The fact that we were without our two most important players really showed. On paper, it appears that we had a pretty decent game. Getting 304 yards, and our Freshman QB Javelle Allen (6'0 175) throwing for 175 while splitting time with Junior QB Jacobe Green (5'11 170). Here is something i can say without a doubt...Javelle Allen is going to be a freaking player, im talking crazy good. He has a super strong arm, and had a field presence that can't be taught. Our offense will almost certainly be led by him next season...i was impressed by him, and Junior WR Darryl Smith...He has to be one of the fastest freaking players i have seen at this level in a long while.
But now to the bad part. With Keith out, despite an excellent showing from our freshman...he was still a freshman, and made some poor choices during critical times. Things that someone with a little bit more experiences wouldn't of made.... mind you, he played JV football last week. Our Temporary running back Tray owens is a fanstastic athlete but he is better served at WR or FS...he is a physical kid, but has no vision to run the ball. When Donovan Young returns (hopefully soon), we should be a very very explosive offensive unit. Kieth Baker is what makes this team tick, and anyone that saw last weeks game....knows that he is just one of those kids that is going to win you ball games.
Defense: We played flat....i mean, just horrendous football. It was like reliving last years spring match up. Our Big linemen were getting abused by a significantly smaller O-line...and our LB's were just not paying attention. We just weren't playing team football.
One glimmering piece of the defense was that we did indeed play a much better second half. But at that point our offense was so demoralized their was no way were going to beat out an Spring team that wanted it far more then we did. A shining future star was Sophomore Alphonso Harleston(6'1 185 FS)...kid seriously looked like he new what he was doing...and he is freaking fast. Sophomore Brison Burris also impressed at both CB and WR.
All in all, i do not expect Humble to play like this again....Top 25 team? Not this week they weren't....not even close. Last week, yes....this week...no freaking way.
Next week is Jersey Village, at home... Last year we lost to spring in the same manner and went on to play 6-1... i expect much of the same from a team that has the tools to be very very good this year.
I would also like to add, that Spring did a fantastic job. and congrats on the win, you played very well...Just do me a favor, and don't fizzle out...it makes up look bad, when in reality...we really lost to a pretty good football team.
Congrats spring...see you in 51 weeks, at Turner
