I thought I'd start a new thread as our JT friends get home they can post thoughts.

First - great effort by the Lions. You have a team that has to make some noise at some point. The qb is for real, good rb's, and two dang near lock-down cb's were all impressive.

Lufkin was very fortunate to have won the game. JT had a lot to do with how Lufkin played - which needless to say was putrid on offense, but pretty tight on D.

On the ending... yes, JT was driving down to our 15 or so with about 3 minutes left. The snap went over the qb's head, he sprinted back 20 yards picked it up and heaved a rainbow in the general vicinity of two people - I do not know if they were receivers or interior linemen.

A flag was thrown and ruled intentional grounding - which was correct if those two players were linemen and also because the ball likely did not get back to the line of scrimmage. However, I don't think a spot foul at the point of the throw was correct. JT then had 2nd and about 30 - which I think was incorrect?

Put it this way - Outlaw would have had a coronary if that call had gone against LP. JT appeared to be driving toward a score obviously - having moved from their own 25 to our 15 or so. Very weird play.

I know JT feels they were referre'd - and I guess I don't blame them. However, I just think the refs were bad - period. We got two celebrating calls - that were marginal at best.

Again - great game JT - I think ya'll turn this thing around.

They SHOULD have beaten Longview last year.... JT is always dangerous. They almost beat us in 2003 as well. I hate it when bad calls (both ways) ruin an otherwise great contest.

Well, from your point of view, it sounds like JT will be a scary team this year. Wasn't this game played in Lufkin?

Yes - in Lufkin. Had JT pushed that ball on in with 2 minutes left - I dunno - they probably win it.

It sounds like a combination of JT playing CUJO ball, and LP playing offense like they slept through practice for the last two years:mad:

WOW...Abe Martin is hostile environment for any team. For JT to into Abe and play Lufkin that close is amazing. This game may give the Lions alot more confidence, and it may help them turn the corner.

I was listening to this game on my way home tonight, and I wondered about the spot foul on the intentional grounding. Is that the correct way to mark the spot, or do you go back to the line of scrimmage and then take off yards? Maybe someone can help me out on this.
I know that when JT got to Lufkins 18 yd. line, I felt as though they should have ran up the middle for 3 plays, then tried the FG for the win. QB should have stayed under center and protected the football.

JM - if they were on the 18, the ball was moved back to, what, the 35 or 40? I think that's incorrect. No way you have a 22 yard penalty on that do you? That really bugs me if the ref blew it. If it is a spot foul - I've never heard of a 22 yard intentional grounding call.

If he truly grounded, it was the right call. Spot of foul and loss of down.

Ok, I guess I never realized it could be that harsh. Screwed that drive - for dang sure. The JT coach was livid. Coach O would have died on the field had LP been on the bad end of that call. It was very conceivably grounding, but I'm sure JT will see it differently. Lousy way to end their drive.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense I guess. Maybe it just seems like alot because of the fact the QB chased the ball 20 yds down the field.

Correct call it was spot foul the refs got it right the QB was sacked he just tossed the ball up noone was even close to it.. JT couldnt kick a FG from the 18 XP are challenging enough, but the same could be said for Lufkin. Penalties killed both teams tonight, but the Lufkin defense played great they only really gave up 6 points nothing you can do when you thow a pic and JT as the ball at the 5.

Also Lufkin RB Trevon Lewis finally seemed to live up to his hype 134 yard rushing. Also Trimble mad a catch im not sure Dez Bryant could have made he needs to see some more fades. Overally JT was great, but Lufkin's O just looked off tonight but credit JT's defense scheme.

I'm still thinking about that catch Quinn had..Wow!!...but i'm glad Tre'von had a good game tonight we needed that from him. Our D though had to save us again, but they can't keep doing it all year! Also Dmac as the Pa Announcer was alot better than what we had last year IMO i'm glad he's up there.

But congrats to JT for playing a heck of a game tonight! those kids gave it their all for basically the whole game and without a few bad snaps and penalties they could of won the game at Abe tonight. Goodluck the rest of the way CUJO!

Classy response Cujo - it does appear the right call was made. I agree with you - you were running misdirection on us - and you probably should have tried that 3 more times.

Good effort on JT'S part. I really think JT surpised Lufkin with how fast they were as a team. Overall, we dug deep, played hard, played inspired and left if all on the field. All i asked for was improvement from last week and we seen a totally different team last night. I'm actually starting to think maybe Texas High was just that good. At any rate, JT STILL has the athletes to play with anyone, we just need to LEARN how to win. We're still really young and played without 2 starters. I think we'll put a few scares into some teams this season but NEXT YEAR, we'll put it all together and make some people serve notice. As for Lufkin, they prolly should have lined up and pounded us with Lewis all night long. I

Lufkin played a hard game, If you were there you would have seem some good hard hitting.Lufkin brought the wood I mean they hit you really hard. That huge d-line is one of the biggest and the best....we all know about McFarland but big old #60 I believe that's his # the other DL is a beast & a force to move.It was some good hitting out there.IMOP both team played hard and left it all on the field.EAST TEXAS FOOTBALL

Any John Tyler fans who were at the game want to let me know how the visitor side sitting went? was a big worry by alot of people coming into this year.

I want to see a foot race between your #1 and Tyler Lees Dada. Two of the fastest guys ive seen in awhile.

Was a ugly win and abit of a boring game to watch (defensive battle and all that) but its still nice to be back playing teams we know and who will play there hearts out trying for the win.

I bought reserve seat & the usher showed me to my seat.(If you come buy r/tick only $7) reg tic.$6 and a long line .They had plenty of security on that side & no problem with the kids because most of them bought reg. ticks. I sat deep in the middle of Lufkin fans and cheer my butt off talk football with some of y'all fans & they showed much class.HATS OFF LUFKIN FANS
