A Lufkin fan suggested someone start a poll.
In 2003 when JT came to Lufkin everyone was expecting blowout and nothing was further from the truth. However I think and of course this is with my purple shades on that Lufkin will get the job done and get the starters out early.
I think Lufkin's WR's will be to much to handle with Claybon slinging the ball around. First game at Abe the Pack should be fired up. The defense will continue with another dominant perfomance.

Somone asked for it, but we still have to play the game. I remeber showing up at The Berry Center a few years ago and I remeber leaving seeing the bigest Panther collapse in History.

Lufkin should win, possibly pulling away, but who really knows. LP has proven to be inconsistent over the past 14 months. Lufkin gets one key defending starter back - lb'r Kelandis Phillips - so, you'll hopefully see a more consistent defensive effort Friday.
Plus, REL is a dang good team, and they proved it Friday by almost winning.

A poll patronizing my beloved Lions huh.....
Well, what can I say? It pains me to say that If Lufkin is at least half as good as Texas High (and I imagine they are) they should pretty much be able to pick the score one in this one. The losing around here is now getting old...year, after year, after year, after year. Its a losing culture that needs to be changed. I really think these kids take the field with the expectations that they'll probably lose. No pride. Coach really should dig up a few old "CUJO" game tapes or maybe put together a power point to let these kids know what it means to wear blue and white. Strip the Lion decals off their helmets and put the new uniforms in boxes until you EARN something. What makes it worse is that the talent is there and you can easily see it at all the skill positions.
To the kids credit though, at least 21 of TH's 42 points can be credited to the coaching staff. They made it too easy for TH. The play calling and the lack of adjustments were terrible. Why they refused to help the poor corner who held TH's best reciever is beyond belief. It seems after the first 2 times he blew by him so fast his head spun, someone would have said, "hey, lets double dude"..... hell..even trip him. The only thing that kept TH under 50 points, is their own lack of focus, a decent (but tired) JT defense and a punter who flipped the field everytime he punted. We can only get better though.
I do believe this one will be closer than the "EXPERTS" think though if we somehow manage to SHOW SOME PRIDE!!!!!!!

Up until 1999 JT owned East Texas. Let's be honest I think the open enrollment in Tyler is Killing JT. Tyron Ross stayed right next to John Tyler HS if im not mistaken or maybe it was Farmer, but both were closer to JT then Lee, but maybe im wrong just go by what Ive been told.
Striping the decals is a good idea Lufkin did it last year, but it was only 1 game. I also hate seeing Cujo down. Just seems after Allen Wilson left there was nothing left. They did have that good run with Kendall Hunter and Maddoxx(SP).

2nd that.
Not sure why about there is a poll, i suggested a thread mainly just to discuss the teams. Even if they loose i like to know who to watch on the other side. So John Tyler fans who should i be keeping an eye on as a good player?
I voted for John Tyler just so the poll wouldnt be so one sided, rly rly rly dont think they will win unless someone poisons the Lufkin team or something but I wanted to be sure they got at least 1 vote.
And have a good trip down to Lufkin. I am worried about the new visitor side set up and this is the first game we will get to see it in action. I suggest showing up plenty early to play it safe if you are driving this way. Fill up your gas tanks before heading this way to. Family in Longview area says its in the 3.50s and its still 3.68 here as of wed. Oh and since its been awhile since uve headed this way alot of restraunts stay open late on friday nights in football season so if you want to catch a bite after the game there should still be a few choices. You can also listen to the game here on 100.1 so if you have a radio and want to listen in bring it.

How long has it been? 7,8 losing seasons since 2000 with one good one 3 years ago. Damn! Did the wrong team go to 4-a? Getting very close to PT Pirate level.

Reason to keep him is that fact that he's only been a head coach on any level for 1 year. We knew this was a rebuilding time for the program so we shalll remain patient. Shuffling coaching staffs in and out every 2 years is a good way to assure ourselves a place as the doormat. I don't really agree that he's right for the job, but I'll at give him a chance because he does seem to care and wants to see these kids succeed. We can't keep changing coaches. There's something to be said for consistency of any sort. I just feel we needed more exp. at the HC positions instead of just throwing him in there on the 5A level in a district this tough. Just by looking at our schedule though..... a lonnnnng year indeed. But as long as they show some sort of pride about themselves I'll continue to back our LIONS. CUUUUUUUJJOOOOOOO......lets go!!!

I don't think JT fans ok with losing either. You'd be crazy to believe they are.
But things have changed. Lee was the doormat that JT is now, for a long time. And for whatever reasons, it's been switched.
As mentioned above, JT will get better with the right coaching staff. Didn't Brooks leave? I really thought he was going to turn that program around, especially after '05. But for whatever reason, it just didn't happen. Good luck to both teams, but deep down cheering for Cujo for obvious reasons. ;)

i agree he deserves to have time to turn a team around. its hard to bring a team from the bottom to the top. not that jt was at the very bottom when he was hired. but they were in need of a good hire. i believe rush is the right man for the job. i never talked to him in person but i have seen him in person and on the coaches corner and i can tell he is a great minded coach and cares for the kids and i wish the best for him and the program. i dont like for folks to criticize the man behind his back and he is doing the best he possibly or anyone else can do. the players have to back him up. i see disapline in the group that wasnt there when brooks was at the helm. so thats a good start. he just needs some time. i saw goodness in jt last year. they showed how competative they can be under rush against longview last season.

1st to say...that was a great game. JT is young, hungry and on the rise. As for Lufkin....well the qb IS the weakest link. We played hard and showed some kind of heart. Losing is just a habit thats dies hard. At any rate, I guess the best team won. But let me say this, if that game was officiated ANYWHERE near fair, JT wins.....nice moral vic for us tho. Our jr. qb is rather impressive huh. Good outing for the defense also.

We actually had a decent running game - zero passing game tonight. JT had a plan and executed it very well.
Lufkin looked beyond bad on O, however, really ugly. No way we beat the Woodz without a tremendously better effort - no way.

Tough game. Claybon just didnt pick it uo tonight. Tho he did run the ball with success.
Other then the 45 yard TD run by JT Lufkin's defense was Lufkin like. JT' other score was set up on a TO were they had the ball at the 5, but Cujo's defense played just about as good as you could ask them to play.
One bright spot was Lufkin RB Trevon Lewis if it wasnt for him we may not have won this one. 134 yards on not to many carries didnt catch what they said. Also WR Quin Trimble mad a Dez Bryant like catch actually his catch was better then anything Dez had it was just a sick 1 hander twisting his body for about 40 yards.

Personally, I believe that what has been holding Lufkin back the 3-4 years has been play calling on offense. Absolutely no creativity. They have been running the same 6 plays for 5 years now. You can't count on opposing d coordinators to be stupid forever no matter how many different formations you run those 6 plays from. The JT coaching staff did their homework. I wasn't at the game but it sounds like Lufkin never changed their play calling despite JT bringing the kitchen sink, refrigerator, blender, toaster and microwave oven on first downs. That left Lufkin with a lot of 2nd and 3rd and longs. Lufkin has been the beneficiary of a weak district the last 4 years. It appears TWHS is back to their form before Lufkin joined the district. The days of Lufkin just getting of the bus to get a win are coming to a close. Just ask Klein Forest.

JT has a very salty D. But, yeah, you can pretty much count on option pitch or screen pass on some formations. And, our pass routes sucked - just putrid. Jeff had a bad game too. But, they were begging us to just run the ball - and we finally obliged - which is how we scored our only second half points.
