i missed the buford vs. timberview game , the 2nd game justin northwest vs
woodland hills pa, i was very impressed with the effort justin showed, they
fell behind early 6-0, but clawed there way back, woodland hills kicking game
was horrible, 2 missed extra points and the ugliest on side kick i ever seen in
my life, im not putting the kicker down, but as a group, they havent put a lot of work in the kicking game, imo,, they probabily should of won, but they didnt, JNW has some nice players but probabily a 3rd or 4th place team,,,
cedar hill vs la salle, cedar hill was big and fast, la salle was small and slow,
cedar hill dominated every aspect of the game, although malena went out
with some kind of injury hopefully he will be okay, because i want them healthy when ET, comes calling, i know its early but they definitely have
to work on that passing game if they plan on a long playoff run,
bowie vs, trotwood madison, madison had some huge players, but one of their
fans told me that they could bring only 40 kids, come to texas to play a game in august with 40 kids?? wow, in the 1st quarter thought it was actually going to be a good game, c. mathews first couple of passes
were not too good, i even heard a t-madison fan say, 'HE CANT THROW'
then he proceded to pick them apart, bowie has a backup named davis,
thats built like a linebacker, runs like a running back, and throws a beautiful downfield spiral, bowie is small but as fast as ever.....

Here is my take on what I saw today.
Buford was a nice team. Very basic and hard nosed team! They ran what they call " Multiple I" offense. They ran the ball 37 times for 253 yards and passed for another 54 yards. Mansfield Timberview Had 3 turnovers and allowed punt return for TD and had several other bone head plays. Honestly, on another day when they don't turn the ball over and if they could tighten up the run defense they could beat Buford. After basically spoting them 14 points with punt return for TD and INT that was taken back inside the 5 yard line, Timberview scored with 9:28 to go in the 4th Q to make it 21-28 Buford. Buford got the back and on the 2nd play Buford RB Storm Johnson went 74 yards for TD. He had 15 rushes 147 yards. With 3:28 to go in the game he scored from 15 yards out after Timberview throws 3rd Int. The scoring drive was 3 plays 20 yards making the final score 42-21. Buford did not turn the ball over in the game.
Timberview struggled all night to stop basic run plays between the tackles. Timberview had 317 yards of offense to 307 yards for Buford. Buford did have 16 less plays to do it in. Last year Buford went 15-0 outscoring opponents, 681-66. They won their State Semifinal and State Championship game by a combined score of 98-0 In the new millennium Buford is 110 wins vs 6 defeats with 4 state championships in the last 7 years. According to the game program they routinely play up, filing their schedule with 3A, 4A and 5A teams. I am not sure how many kids go to this school. They would have know problem playing in Texas 2A. I would not automatically give them that title. The first team that would play good run defense against them would have chance to beat them. Honestly, I would love to see Celina, Liberty Hill, Gilmer, Navosota type 3A schools play these guys.
Cedar Hill vs La Salle- Cedar Hill without question was the best team in this game. CH rushed 58 times for 426 yards they had 470 yards of offense. CH also turned the ball over 3 times all fumbles and allowed LaSalle to return 2nd half kickoff 100yrds for TD. LaSalle had 33 rushes for 136 yards, offense was based out of "Wing T" and they had 204 total yards and did not turn the ball over in the game. "Greater Catholic League" lol
Justin Northwest vs Woodland Hills (PA) This was a good game. After watching Cedar Hill run the zone read it looked really really slow when Northwest ran some of the same plays. Woodland Hills had some big boys on the line and they had one really big running back. Basically both teams were very average. Northwest played good run defense against them. Northwest struggled catching the ball. Remember the name "Barnhill" this guys is out with hand injury. He is the brother of UT softball pitcher. He basically is the best WR on the team. He is like 6'3 or 6'4.
Here are some stats thru 3Q in this game.
Score 6-3 Woodland Hills
95 yards for Woodland Hills
109 yards for NW
I thought NW had the best team overall with only 2 returning starters on the offense, it was expected that they might struggle on offense early in the season. It will be interesting to see if NW makes the playoffs this year. You can't on one hand the number of times they have made the playoffs.
Arlington Bowie vs Trotwood-Madison OH- Without question Bowie was the best team out of all the teams that played on Saturday at Texas Stadium. I take Bowie over CH because of Christian Matthews. I hope he is a good kid and works hard, because he has the chance to go really far in the game of football.
It was only a matter of time before Bowie QB would torch those boys. Christian Matthews started slow really missing badly on some passes, I am sure he normally makes. After that and it only took a couple of series and Matthews did torch them. Man, this kid throws some nice looking balls and he is much better runner then first thought. This kid has chance to be really good. Really reminds me of Miami Northwestern QB from last year.
I won 8 dollars during the game from my buddy as bet over and under on how many plays it would take Bowie to score.
Trotwood-Madison passed the eye test that is for sure. This bunch is basically very much underachieving. I am telling you that this team had some great looking kids. These athletes would win more games with some good Texas High School Coaching...
Bowie could run or pass on them it did not matter!! Bowie is not the biggest team in the world and this could cause them some problems down the line. They can darn sure run. I thought they were faster than Cedar Hill!!
One last thing about these guys that the other poster touched on. The back up QB for Bowie looks to be really good. This kid has nice arm and can run. He is built like RB. He throws like a good QB!! I was honestly shocked at one pass this kid hit on the money. It was from the far hash hitting basically a deep flag pattern between the numbers and the sideline. Matthews hit the same pass several time himself. Bowie is in good shape for next year with this kid.
I would pick Bowie at this point over Cedar Hill for the fact that Bowie can pass and run the ball well.
I can't wait for Monday!! too bad Manderville LA had to pull out on Klein Oak. See possible hurricane. To big of Risk for them to travel. It could cause the kids on the team, in the band and others to get displaced from other family members that could not make the trip...
