give your backups some extra practice time this week. they'll be trying to impress early vs pesh. it'll be ugly early and often. this is your week to have the crybabies castigate your class for running up the score. another week of uncertainty of how good you are due to lack of competition.

hopefully pesh will kick it up a notch this week, or at least tyler lee. if Abilene plays all season like they did against dunbar then they could set all kinds of records, but idk how much that will help come 3rd round of the playoffs

This thought is what worries me. Tyler Lee looks to be a very solid team after giving Lufkin a heck of a game, but still only one game in a 10 game schedule isn't going to prepare us for what's to come in the playoffs.

I will be interested in seeing how the seniors at East respond. I was not at the FM-East game so I can not comment on their last performance. But by reading the score and stats I would be surprised if they don't come out and use 35 and 3 and try to run the ball. 35 only had five running touches and one was a 78 TD run.
I have already seen Allen and West and will get to see Plano on Friday night and East on Saturday.
Hopeing for safe travel for all AHS fans and spend lots of money in the Plano/Murphy restraunts.

The PESH diehard who runs another board quoted his coach as saying:
Coach Ringo quote after the game: “We need 11 competitive players to play hard for us every down of the game,” Ringo said. “If we have to, we just may start pulling players from the JV to fill those gaps where players aren’t performing.”
That pretty much tells you everything.........

What I don't understand is that East is the biggest school in texas with almost 6,000 kids, and yet they can't find 22 athletes to compete. Is the coaching that bad? Or is there just no talent in the whole school?

Ringo has lost the program in my opinion. Once he applied for the SLC job it's been downhill for the program since then. Seeing him coach on the sideline during "greatest HS rivalies" on the NFL network last year told me all I had to know where PESH was headed. That's to bad because 2 years ago that team was rolling against Westfiedl and were on their way to playing Allen in the region 2 until RIKO SMALLS got hurt and they lost a 4th quarter lead.

Just about. First tackle of the game. Later on he nailed the RB on a sweep on 4th down and popped the ball loose which Justin Carroll scooped and scored with. He also sniffed out a reverse on another 4th down and slung the ball carrier down right after the exchange.

East could very well lose the first 5 games this year. I don't see them being the pick against Abilene, Colleyville Hertiage, Skyline, or Plano.
Only time will tell. I see them Friday night for the 1st time. I watched the spring game and wondered how they were going move the ball with thepassing game. They need to use the big O-Line and play the running card. That will benefit them if they can hold onto the ball.
I want even begin to discuss the DC, he is still there and East has changed it base defense.

This is hearsay, but from what I understood from his friends on the sideline last Friday, he's looking to stay close to home. Tech is in the running, if nothing else but because of how close it is. I think LSU is also up there.

He'd certainly be an asset @ Tech and could probably get on the field pretty quickly. LSU would be a great choice as well, but he might have to wait a bit longer to contribute.

East looked worse than I have ever seen them. Complete disconnect between players and coaching staff. Several 'NO your supposed to be in',,back and forth of players running around lost. Confusion amuck on the East sidelines. FM Looked very good for 1st game on O. Serious passing attack, or seriously bad preperation at East. Going to be a LONG year at PESH. Abbylean rolls over east this week. East district mates are licking their chops. Johnny RinGO
Flower Mound is going to be a difficult game for anyone.

Though he would be an asset to Tech, Tech's inability to win ALL the big games in a single season take away his chances to play for a national championship.

From what I saw I think it was more due to the pass rush and pressure on the QB than a couple of guys in the secondary. I hope the problems they had last year or corrected this year. IMHO if we come up against a good passing team with a good "O" line we may have some concerns.

After one game you can't say the secondary is doing fine. We have the same weakness from a certain returning starter as we did last year. As the season goes on, his weakness will once again be exposed.
Not here to start an argument but fact is fact. The kid always gets burned, attempts arm and slap tackles, afraid to hit. All on film from last year. Mojo burned him up.
Well I saw the big 6'4'' WR from Dunbar line up on both sides of the field against both of our returning corners and neither of them got burned. As stated a couple of posts up, he only caught deep balls against our back up CB's and they tried to go deep several times and he was covered well everytime. I also didn't see any Eagle defenders shying away from contact or tackles, regardless or position.

Guess we saw a different game then.
Have to give credit to the pass rush on shutting down the passing game of Dunbar. Their scoring drive before half time was pretty much through the air.
Hope I am wrong but the kid is just afraid to hit and get hit which is why he allowed so many punt returns to go untouched last year. When he did catch, he ran like a tiger just as he did with the first punt return this season.
Last year most argued the secondary was fine and had no problems. Mojo targeted him and scored. SLC ate him up. Pflugerville's rb's were practically untouched once they reached the secondary. Unfortunatly no real tests (Perhaps Richland) won't occur until the playoffs.
That same kid also led the team in pics last year if I'm not mistaken. Say all you will about last year, but I saw none of that last Friday night. Also, he was targeted so much last year because most teams were too afraid to throw at our other corner, who was much more physically imposing, but he was far more afraid of contact than the corner you speak of. That's why a kid that big played corner and not safety or outside linebacker.

he had multiple INT's. i attended no more than 5 games last year and saw him have more than one in the limited time i saw. and he was more physical than the other corner despite being much shorter and weighing alot less. im sure the coaches have worked hard with him on not being as timid; Warren stresses mental toughness significantly

I'm not sure who you're talking about either then. The only player that returned punts is the same one whom me and AE8008 are referring to. If you're talking about out other starting CB this year, then I saw him make one heck of a play on a deep ball they attempted to the big WR and he went up and swatted it out of the air.

Plano East if a far better team than what they showed last friday. There prolly not top 25 caliber, but deffinately better that what they showed. Their offensive coordinator is brand new this year, and he's trying to start the spread, which East isn't used to apparently. The offense really beat themselves with wild snaps and dropped balls, which can be mended with a week's worth of hard practice. Expect an Abilene win, but nobody needs to be over confident, especially when East has a 6'2 240 lb running back ;).
btw, correct me if i'm wrong about the new O.C. thats just what i heard

Not if East doesn't get their act together, sounded like players & coach not on same page. If doesn't change can see them going 0-5 to start off the season. Also see why Massey has them projected to be 2-8 this year.

I really thought this game would be closer!!
As noted the first half was closer. East scored a TD in the last few seconds before the half and from the Abiline side it fired folks up. The Eagles came out fired up after half time. The coaches finally opened up the passing game and shredded the East "D". The eagles "D" picked up the momentum with a punt block and caused a fumble that they recovered.
Abiline hit their rythm and East, well they never found theirs.
I give my thanks to all the Abiline folks that we were sitting with and near, you guys were awesome. My friends and I were so glad we could experience this game with you all.
It is clear to me that Abiline deserves their top 5 AP ranking. :notworthy

Looks like what was predicted, Abilene 55 - PESH 17
You were right about the first half, at least on the scoreboard. Abilene really moved the ball at will and had a touchdown called back during the first half even though they did convert it into a field goal. They just stalled on drives (or East stepped up).
Some spoke about the speed of the Sims boy this past summer. He is the real deal. Returned two kickoff's for touchdowns (95 yard) though the second was called back due to holding because one of our guys was laying on top of a defender on the ground while Sims ran by. This kid is fast, I mean very fast and only a Soph. It will be fun to watch how he develops throughout the season.
Abilene scored quick in the second half and a 17-14 lead all the sudden turned into blowout.
Next comes Cooper. Not knocking our two prior opponents but this should be a good test.

The second East TD I blame on the coaching calls. They had the ball on the 50 and 40 seconds to play and we were playing a prevent with our safeties 30 yards deep. Thus East would hit a receiver about 10 yards down field and he'd run it for another 15 since there was no one around and then sure enough they put it in. I think that was a little too conservative on behalf of the defensive coaching staff at that point.

I only saw that when 1 yard or less for a 1st down as a couple times they were called for delay of game. Not their normal to hurry up.
